And this is the department Obama and the Democrats want to funnel healthcare coverage through. Is it a tax or a fine? Who gives a shit, they can't even tell if it's a living human being or not.
It still looks like a Fisher-Price operating system. It's still bugg riddled and messy. I've never liked the look of QT apps but somehow KDE managed to make them look even worse.
I'll admit, I've never liked KDE, even back with KDE 1-3. But Plasma has been the most god awful desktop experience ever. With the possible exception of Gnome Shell. At least GTK3 looks decent on my screen though and I don't have to spend the better part of a month configuring shit to make it semi useful.
The DE should die. Bring back decent window managers and be done with the cruft.
Microsoft couldnt be that evil. It didn't control the hardware. Apple owns the whole ball of wax and can swing it any way they wish. Microsoft had to do most of its evil behind the scenes via contracts and licensing. Apple can just come right and bend you over some judges desk and stick the gavel up your ass.
Port is possibly the wrong term but to answer your questions, no, it doesn't use the standard upstream libraries. Canonical heavily patches and tweaks things to make them work. It's hack upon hack, the vast majority of which are rejected by upstream so Canonical just releases their own packages for it. This is why Unity will never be in the main Arch repos because their packages aren't compatible with upstream in most cases.
First impressions matter. My fiancee and I just got MacBook Air's a little while ago. The packaging was amazing. You literally just slip it out of the box. I'm not the type to care all that much but she was wowed and that set the tone for the use of the device afterwards.
It's just like dressing for an interview. Make a first good impression and tiny flaws after the fact become less of a problem.
Sorry but the Q is DOA. It's crippled and horribly over priced. Google didn't think this one out. Yes being made in the USA is cool and all but that doesn't justify three times the price over something like the Roku. It doesn't even come with a remote, you have to supply one yourself! The people that are running this need to be fired. It's possibly the worst product release I have ever seen. If I was Sergey Brin I'd be embarrassed this thing was released with my companies name on it.
Elizabeth Warren doesn't even know what her ethnicity is. Putting that moron up as an example doesn't help your argument. Besides that fact, I've never met a lawyer that I found to be intelligent. They just argue, usually in circles and often with themselves. It's not a surprise a room full of them can't figure out basic contracts. I'd be surprised if they could tie their own shoes.
How are the exploited if they are signing up willingly? Trying to negate personal responsibility and play it off on the "evil corporation" is more played out than the buzzwords Davidow uses in his "blog."
I agree companies take things a bit too far at times but like a wise man once said "It's a crime to let a sucker hang on to his money." I feel no worse for people being "exploited" by these companies than I do the banks that gambled on them.
Getting FOSS developers to merge projects is like herding cats. The vast majority of it is ego driven, merging and potentially taking a backseat to someone else is rarely an options.
I love Linux. I have a great life thanks to Linux. But Linux on the desktop is complete shit and always has been. Especially now with Gnome 3, Unity and KDE 4 giving the finger to users and designing craptastic interfaces.
I'm using Cinnamon at the moment just for a semi usable desktop experience. XFCE is also good. But by and large, desktop environments on Linux are a disaster and it's only getting worse with Gnome pushing systemd on us and Fedora fucking everyone by forcing restarts all the damn time.
I'll stick to server OS's with crappy window managers that I can tweak myself from now on and keep a Mac around for anything desktop related I really want to do. I'm tired of fighting with the fucking desktop environment. I have real work to do.
Gnome devs and KDE devs pissed away promising interfaces and aren't even taking community feedback into consideration anymore. The best thing anyone says about these environments these days is "It's not as bad as it used to be." or "It doesn't crash every 15 minutes like it used to"
People like me moved to Linux because we were sick of Windows 95 crashing all the damn time. We laughed at Bill Gates when Windows 98 crashed during a live demo presentation to the world. Now suddenly we have desktop environments that are worse than 95/98 ever were and we're expected to stick around for this shit? Fuck no.
The difference is that many medical conditions leave people as poor and unable to "pay" the way you proclaim they should. Try fighting a life threatening disease for 10 years, see what it does to your bank account. Even rich people go broke from the medical industry.
How about a child that will die without a transplant? Can the child pay? Maybe their parents can but it's unlikely as they probably have 2nd and 3rd mortgages on their home, assuming they can even afford a home. How about the kids in foster care or who are wards of the state? We should just let them die because they can't pay?
I'm sorry but illness directly effects wealth and when you start deciding that peoples transplants can only go to the wealthy or to people that can pay you're screwing a large group of people who are guilty of nothing but being sick.\
The transplant rules are what they are for a very good reason and were decided upon by much wiser people than us. People who actually work in this field and understand it. The life of Steve Jobs is no more valuable than the life of a sick child. I don't care what the eugenics crowd thinks. You'll steal organs from needy people over my dead body.
I disagree. I'm old enough to remember when "tech savy" was someone that could set the clock on a VCR. It's always been this way.
This website is older than a lot of the people who visit it now. I've been here since the very beginning. This site, like many others, began catering to larger populations by dumbing down the content. This of course ups page views and ad clicks. Then the "tech savy" folks move on to other "tech savy" sites and the cycle continues.
I'm just the old guy that kept coming back every few months to check on things and feeling nostalgic.
But I digress. People in the 18-25 age group feel immortal. I know because I was one of them not too long ago. This feeling of youth and being impervious seeps into everything they do, including computer usage. Who needs an AV program? Software updates? Nah I don't need them. It's just how it goes.
They get a little older, a little wiser, life takes a few chunks out of their asses and the cycle continues. It's all just a big joke as the Comedian would say.
I too have issues with Google but this "story" isn't one of them.
Regardless, what are alternatives? I can't even pay for products that equal googles. I've actively looked for services as good as theirs that I can pay for and not be tracked or sold to the highest bidder. I have yet to find decent replacements to gmail, google maps, docs and search. I did switch my email over to an iCloud account since I have an iPhone and a Mac anyway but still, Apple isn't the most moral company either.
I've considered running my own services and may very well end up doing so soon. I'd rather pay someone decent though and not trouble myself with the admin overhead. I get enough of it at work, I don't need it at home too.
Pretty much this. I moved out of state. I now live in Idaho and make half what I used to. However, my living expenses are about 1/8th of what they used to be. I was paying $2000+ in rent on average when I lived int he bay area. I now pay $300. I'll never go back. In just 2 years I have paid off every bill I had with the exception of one because I'm using it to build credit.
Add to this, the average cost of a house out here is just two years of my salary. My fiance and I will be buying in a few months with 40-50% down. I didn't understand how much better it was in other states until I moved to one.
$1600 a month? Try $4000 back then. I had a friend renting a basement for nearly $5000. I lived in the suburbs, out in Dublin and rented a two bedroom for $2400.
The prices have come down a bit but not to the point that it makes any economic sense to live there. The state in general is in deep shit, living there is pointless and building a startup there is fucking suicide.
My family? They went with the standard conservative Christian Republican mindset: Ostracism. It was all on me since I'd 'embarrassed' the family by having a child out of wedlock. Made me turn against that whole mindset. It is evil at it's core.
Hard to see why they would abandon such a warm, intelligent, lovable person like you. I'd probably ignore you too. In fact, watch me do it right after this post. Enjoy your misery.
And this is the department Obama and the Democrats want to funnel healthcare coverage through. Is it a tax or a fine? Who gives a shit, they can't even tell if it's a living human being or not.

You tell me:
I helped jack off his donkey.
vs.
I helped Jack, off his donkey.
That's because most of the jobs using C are engineering jobs that work at the hardware level and it's assumed you know and use C at that level.

It's also in perpetual beta. They've been bragging about E17 since the 90's. Enlightenment is going nowhere fast.
Getting FOSS developers to merge projects is like herding cats. The vast majority of it is ego driven, merging and potentially taking a backseat to someone else is rarely an options.
Of course, by "yes" I mean, "never had a prayer."

I'd love to use DDG but it's blocked at my work :(

Leave it to Soulskill to post this crap. Time to block the editor again eh? Sad how low the standards have gotten here.

Rent isn't the only living expense. A child could see THAT.

You should be fired for propagating the problem instead of solving it.
