This is one of the worst generalizations I can think of. Under a capitalist system the primary responsibility is to the CONSUMER, without whom, there is no shareholders, employees or anything else.
The problem you are trying to express is one in OUR capitalism which is not really capitalism at all since corporate structure is dictated by the government and heavy regulation exists almost everywhere.
Cars are major investments, especially in the USA where finding a reasonably desirable one will run you 20k easy. My point here is, this means insurance companies will be totalling more cars after accidents rather than repairing them. The rule of thumb is, if the repairs cost more than the car blue books as, they total it. Cars depreciate the second you drive them off the lot but repairing them has gotten more and more expensive. This will lead to much higher insurance premiums for EVERYONE.
This is only going to become more of a problem as more hybrids are released. Your average mechanic is what he is because he grew up working on cars with his dad/friends etc.. It's very much a lifestyle worn as a badge of honor by the blue collar salt of the earth crowd. They no more want to use a computer than many of us want to get our hands dirty under the hood of our cars.
The only saving grace here is that repairs seem to be less frequent on newer automobiles. I have less than 30k miles on my 2000 Ford F250 and have yet to need any under the hood work.

I'm 25 years old and a musician. My depth of music appreciation runs very deep, however I can not begin to appreciate nor respect the absolute crap being distributed today.
There isn't a variety of music now. It's pop or indie and that's it. Nothing else is marketed, very little else is sold in stores and forget about big concerts, you'll have to go to a bar to hear anyone decent.
Good music is good music period. It's not generational which is why Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Grateful Dead are still legends. It's why I can't drive to the store without hearing someone playing Bob Marley. There is almost nothing new that is good. I could spend all day looking and maybe find something, but thats the problem. Why should I have to? Isn't it the job of the labels to market good music to us? They are failing which is why sales are down which was my point in posting this.

It's been a long long while since a new artist came out that was actually talented. I played better than most of these tards when I was in 8th grade. Where did all the Bob Dylans go, the Janis Joplins, the Stevie Ray Vaughns and B.B. Kings? Clapton is a memory and the Bettles are history. Good bands like Jimmy Eats World and Weezer barely get played, drowned out by Brittany Spears and J.Lo.
Turn on MTV and watch for about an hour. Keep track with a pencil and paper, count how many of these pop artists actually play an instrument. Then count how many of those actually write their own music. It's disgraceful to call these people "professional". They in no way act professional. They neither write music, play music nor perform it. They have dance instructors for the performances and lipsync the albums.
With all of this how can I as a consumer respect the music? If I don't respect it why in the world would I buy it?

They want everyone to code to their OS with it's skimpy little marketshare but they wont do the same in kind for other OS's with skimpy little marketshares. Instead they port stuff half assed over to windows. If Apple would just form an alliance with other OS makers and form a strategy they could gang up on MS and make some headway, but noooooooooooo. I love iTMS don't get me wrong here. My problems with it tho are that the images hardly ever load making navigation a royal pain. And often times their system just takes a massive dump and wont let anyone purchase anything. Don't even get me started on all the "partial album" downloads they have and they are still skimping on the selection.
The main difference between Apples bugs and everyone elses bugs is that Apple WILL NOT acknowledge the problem EVER. It took them 8 months to finally come out and say "Yeah the.Mac Backup program doesn't work for 80% of our users because the update we did screws up on firewalls". Then a week later they pulled that message off their forums along with half the user complaints. Apple is as deceitful on these things as the government is. They can do it because they fully control it.
The only reason Apples system is a success is the lack of "in your face" DRM. It will do well simply because of that. Apples services and products are good until something goes wrong. Once something goes wrong it's lie, cheat and steal time and Jobs, et. al. are laughing all the way to the bank.
I love my mac, I love OSX but I REALLY FUCKING HATE Apple. The day someone comes out with a better mouse trap I will jump ship. My iPod is wonderful but by the time someone comes out with a better mouse trap it will probably be the low end of the spectrum.

This thing is a small fortune at 900$ plus tax. How do they expect to compete with that kind of barrier to entry? How do they justify that price when everything else I've seen is half that or less in the case of Tivo?

Why not P2P email? Then all mail is on the senders machine until the recipient comes online to check it. It seems P2P is perfect for such a system.
