A new technique could take a simple body scan and allow a user to upload it and use it as an avatar or game character. Previously an animator would have to create a skeleton inside the model and describe movement capabilities manually.

This sounds like a complete Serkis.

ReactOS is "an open source effort to develop a quality operating system that is compatible with applications and drivers written for the Microsoft Windows NT family of operating systems (NT4, 2000, XP, 2003)."

That's great and all, but does it comply with Newton's Third Law?

I consider this sad news for the OSS community, because portability is one of the strengths of OSS, and not many of us have access to such a variety of platforms to compile and test our software on.

Maybe the project has ended because that's not where the future of computing is headed. Maybe the future is something more like "write once, run anywhere".

Although he stated the system is "severely underpowered," Hecker noted that he wasn't simply referring to the Wii's graphical capabilities. He wants to spend a console's CPU making games more intelligent, and he has found the Wii doesn't have the power to process things like complicated AI.

It's probably pretty much bullshit, as non-competes are usually targeted at specific knowledge jobs (CTO, CEO, etc), not skill jobs (web designer/developer). Basically, it comes down to compensation for that commitment. If the firm's paying six and a half figures, go for it. If they're paying market rate, tell them to knob off: There are plenty of other firms that don't require a non-compete for a regular web developer/designer position.

If following up on it is an absolute requirement, don't forget the CYA (cover your ass) email politely outlining the situation to your boss, with a BCC to yourself. At least if the shit hits the fan, there's proof you tried to alert people beforehand.
