I agree completely - modular replacement of gadgets is the way to go, both price-wise and feature wise, which is exactly why it will never happen. Phone/PDA companies would make less money with such a plan, so they have no incentive to develop a completely new device system. Thus, I'm left with my lame cameraphone and duplicated PIM functions in my phone and PDA.
From William Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich:
On August 19, 1934, 95% of the Germans who were registered to vote went to the polls and 90% (38 million) of adult German citizens voted to give Adolf Hitler complete and total authority to rule Germany as he saw fit. Only 4.25 million Germans voted against this transfer of power to a totalitarian regime.
Of course, that doesn't mean that the average moviegoing American would find such a vote in the Galactic Senate plausible, which says much about our instinctive understanding of human nature and history. Also, we wouldn't want the "good guys" to do anything that would help the "bad guys" now would we? That would just confuse everyone.
I think you mean watts -> 1W = 1 Joule/Second = 1 Newton*Meter/Second. Thus, a measure of the amount of energy (Force*Distance -> Joules) your car can put out each second. Wow - I dredged that up from memory - maybe I didn't sleep through all my physics classes...
If you use Linux on your laptop, kismet will interface with GPS devices, and do signal power interpolation to find signal sources. It will also mark everything on a user-supplied map. Good Luck.
The scream has been in all three Lord of the Rings movies. I can't remember where it was in the first movie, but there is definitely one in the battle of the Pelennor Fields.
Good luck getting a static IP - here's how my conversation with their "product expert" went yesterday:
Me: "Hello. Is it possible to get a static IP address with your cable internet service?"
Comcast: "Well, no, but we have something like it on our Pro package [which is] $95 per month!"
Me: "Well, I need a real static IP, so thanks anyways. [click]"
I'm assuming that "something like" a static IP is dynamic DNS or some such - I'll stick with my Speakeasy DSL for $50/mo. I didn't have the heart to ask about filtering on Comcast's internet service...
I wonder if, given enough tickets, one could figure out their encoding scheme and print one's own tickets. Of course, they'd figure it out sooner or later, review their video footage, and come bankrupt your brother-in-law's tractor dealership...
The VIA ME6000 has a hardware MPEG-2 decoder on the board, and I found a review of its performance playing various media types here. Apparently it did pretty well.
Well, if you're partial to Heinlein's "Number of the Beast" universe(s), Boondock would do nicely. This also gives you a large pool of potential server names...
So when the Clinton administration wants to do it, it's evil, but when it's Ashcroft's turn, essentially the same idea is necessary in order to protect our national security.
I hate politics.
The September 11th attacks are being used as an excuse for everything from monitoring our internet activities to perpetuating a "War on Terrorism." Am I the only one that realizes that this "war" will never end? As long as there are people with free will, terrorism is a possibility. Statements about the government trying to suppress our free will are left as an exercise for the reader.
It certainly looks good in the videos, but I wonder how well it does if you're off-axis? If I'm reading the diagram right, it looks like you's start to get parallax error pretty quickly.
Assuming that you're not required to delete the "e-textbooks" after the semester is over, you'd still have the reference material, with the added bonus of not having to store it (at least in a 10-pound physical form...).

Just went and tried to buy one at $599, and the price came up at $2799 when I put it in the cart... I'll keep trying - I definitely want one, and at $600, I can almost afford it...:)

Gentoo runs on PPCs, and is (so I hear) less trouble to set up than Debian. Worth looking at, anyways.
Cheers.

VNC and Samba should do the trick. Robin

Four words: Two Towers Extended Edition. Lots of cool additional scenes in that one... Cheers.
RoboRally. Simple enough for all my relatives (and that's pretty simple), but still enough stratigery to make it fun.

Or not - I'll read the post more carefully next time...
