This way they con the rest of the world and make lots of money doing it. Is not Hawking a believer in time travel and is not time travel crackpot stuff?

In Universe in the Nutshell, Hawking puts the odds at macroscopic time travel being possible at less than 10^(10^60) to one against.

And no, time travel is not crackpot stuff. Time travel is fun stuff! :-)

In some cases, yes, this would work great. We all know how many textbooks sell for WAAAY more than they're worth.

But let's see what the actual cost is going to be. Assume the book has 300 pages, and the library charges 15 cents per page (which is the cheapest I've seen). That's $45 just for the printing costs, before you even look at the author's compensation. I didn't see anything in the article about the actual printing costs, but how much cheaper do you think the libraries will make it?

Now, if you knew exactly which page/chapter you needed and could print out just that...

Really, I would care less about credit, especially if I was taking it for free. Isn't it enough to receive course material for free? Personally, I love college, and not just the "college" aspect of it (though that's great too) but the learning aspect of it.

Well, I like the learning, but the thing is that I get a raise when I complete another degree, so getting credit is good ;-)

One would have to have the capability of precision impact points on the target to do massive damage - say, like the munition storage spaces or fuel storage, to do critical damage to a surface ship - and that wouldn't be easy with moving targets on the ocean.

Will they hit that situation very often, though? Remember, this is the US military getting this; it's unlikely that anybody we're going to be using this one is going to have a navy that has a chance of standing up to ours anyway. IMO it's more likely it'll be used to soften up targets prior to an invasion, such as in Iraq, or making quick strikes when we have an elusive target in view (again, see Iraq)

I can also imagine some of these aimed at any nuclear launch sites we know about around the world, such that if worse comes to worst we can take those out as quickly as possible. Is there anything that moves faster than these things?
