Google's invite system looks to be their way of controlling that. They can get a setup working, then increase its size as they want bit by bit, and work out where fixes need to be made.
They seem to be rolling it out pretty fast these days, though. I only signed up for my account 10 days ago and it's already set me to 6 invites 2 or 3 times...
>My advice: wait until gmail's public, but don't register all the good names before I do!
That's why I got a gmail account as soon as possible; I have a common name and I didn't want someone else to get my favorite email prefix (same as my username here) before I could:-)
More than 10, actually; I'm pretty sure Magic:TG was out by '93. (I started playing the Star Trek CCG in 94, and that was white border, coming after black border, which obviously came out after Magic)
Concerning the first gulf war, no i cant answer why he was left in power.. I agree he should have been removed the first time.. Why we stopped 1/2 way is beyond me.
I believe it was because the original Bush and Cheney felt Iraq would quickly become a quagmire and there'd be no way for the US to get out of it.
You have a point, but I wonder how much that happens when each party controls a different branch of government. (In this case, the democrats retaking the white house while the republicans retain control of congress...or vice versa)
When I think Republican, I think "wealthy businessman" or "uneducated religious conservative"
You would be surprised at how many of the latter I know. Although, for newsgroups it could very well be there are more democrats reading; the republicans just tend to be pretty vocal.
Although to be honest I'm not really sure where to place myself; I'm conservative but not republican:-)
2) Most politicians didn't even read it before they voted on it, which is why there's a minor backlash against it now from both parties.
Yeah, that's partially how the unconstitutional redistricting in Colorado got through last year; a lot of republicans realized after the fact how bad it was, but they were told it would help them and didn't bother to read it before voting for it.
Personally, I think anybody who votes for something without reading it first (or at least, having a staffer read it and tell them what it does) ought to be voted out of office.
Personally, I'm voting for Kerry because he's from a different party than the majorities in Congress and the Supreme Court. I'm counting on political gridlock to prevent the Democrats AND Republicans from achieving anything close to their goals. Kerry supported PATRIOT and the Iraq invasion. If the Democrats were in charge of Congress, I'd be campaigning for Bush.
hmmm, fair enough. We do seem to get screwed least when neither party has enough power to push through something without help from the other side.
Are you familiar with amazon.com? I have an account there, and when I visit, I get bombarded with the Gold Box promo offer, the recommendations I didn't ask for, related searches, what other people bought, what's most popular, what the top lists are, it goes on and on! You may consider that sort of placement useful, but I don't. I'd rather find things the hard way I guess.
Difference of opinion there, I guess...I just bought two new books this week because Amazon tossed them up as recommendations based on my prior purchases and they looked interesting.
As to the google ads...I dunno. My eyes usually just slide right over advertisements, but sometimes one of the text ads on google will catch my attention as more relevant than the actual results. I'm currently using a small number of Google Adwords myself to send people my website, since the pagerank algorithm is unlikely to place a new book review site high enough up for anyone to actually see it. I've already had a couple people send me books to read after finding me on a google search, so it seems to work:-)
I'd rather just pay them a fee perhaps. Advertising sucks.
I block popups myself...I guess I just don't mind the way Google does them (relevant, non-obtrusive text advertisements)
I'm not sure I even know anybody who finished in 4 years.
OTOH, my university catered largely to people who worked part or full time as well as studying..
Good point.
How heavy/bulky is the equipment needed?
Yes, but we don't have to ship fuel vast distances across space to get it to Earth..
Which of course leads to the question...if you did that, would they still be human?
I imagine there must be a number of stories about Earth going to war with "aliens" who used to be human..
Wow, my download seems fast now..I'm getting 1.3 KB/sec! :-)
Or so it claims..

Well, to be fair, he only called it the greatest problem; he didn't say it was useful for anything :-)

Maybe the poster is female? In general, when speaking of a gender-neutral person, men write he/him and woman wrote she/her...

Do a shift-refresh. You wouldn't want to get old pictures...
You mean like IE? I've certainly had enough programs try to get me to install that on my computer..

This applies to flag burning (as a veteran, I'm for it as valid political speech)
This reminds me of all the people calling Kerry a traitor because his book has a picture of an upside-down flag on it. ???
Some of these people just make you shake your head..
Now when you are not a huge advocate of US policies and speak out...you aren't labeled a communist...you are labeled a terrorist.
Actually, if you read newsgroups where there are republicans present, you'll hear democrats called communists soon enough. Among other things.
Yeah, but apparently it's only unconstitutional if you disagree with it.

Oh, that was a group of bloggers? I thought that was a legitimate search result! ;-)
I second bestwebbuys. This semester I used them to find a $220 textbook for $60.
Just OOC, did you mean amoral or immoral?
The funny thing is, when I read this post I read the quoted line first...and I thought it said lawyers also!
