    If this is the case why does officeXP look like winXP on win2K?

    This is one of the worst features MS has. Back when I used office I turned it off immediatly. I memorize where my bookmarks ( favorites? wtf? most of mine are stuff for work, hardly my "favorite" ) are so when "smart" (i.e. really frickin annoying )software hides them I am up shit creek withou a paddle. Also don't tell me that you don't like being able to open up an entire folder in tabs.

    That's just the point. I work on open source software so attacking myself would be dumb. Also, the KDE team is nice, not some company with a history of making money off of other peoples stuff :

    qdos --> msdos
    NCSA Mosaic --> IE

    Imagine if the GPL did not exist, what else would they have taken and marketed?

    Also, what do you mean by 2) Windows is not the only desktop environment (duh!) I still can't get Enlightenment to compile on my windows box.

    So my company is a private-non-profit research institute who won a large grant from IBM. That means that we had IBM come and install some big iron. And I worked with them to set up a DB2 server application, which is not yet released.
    And when they sent me install instructions it was often pages of: ln -s, perl scripts ( some of which I wrote ), etc.
    So if someone is laughing at your install instructions because it is *gasp* box specific, then they really don't know shite about how stuff actually gets done.
    I don't trust any "installer" that requires something other than "tar xzvf" to use. ( although RPM can be nice sometimes if you haven't hosed your install yet ).

    Disclaimer, I have not yet learned how to program in C/C++ ( I am a biochemist and Java suits the needs of a one-man show much better )

    But I am thinking of learning C and the E stuff like Evas ( and the EProg extension ) are designed to make life really easy, so you can have a window with an image in it in less than a minute. I assume that I could still use the GTK+ tool kit for GUI work, but have the faster E stuff for the connections to X. So, in terms of it being a DE, I am excited and hope that the ideas go into other apps ( like GNOME/KDE ) for improving their speed.

    That said, the BEST thing about E16 is the pager/iconbox combo. There is not a better way to manage your windows and virtual desktops, especially if you don't like panels everywhere. Once E17 has these features back ( late 2203 ) I will be very happy.
    I will also relate that many of my coworkers look at my desktop and are using E16 by the end of the day. btw, check out the C2h8 theme. My favorite.
