The first thing I would be concerned about is that no distribution of Linux has a GUI widget for all the things Windows or OSX does. That means lots of command line work, which will not sit well with users who expect, and at this point should get, lots of easy to understand GUI stuff.
By easy to use GUI you surely mean stuff like clippy, that nobody can use, or having a recycle bin that is poorly defined and isn't expected ( compare to the Mac where it is a main feature of the finder ). I am unable to use Windows without Cygwin installed, cimply because there is no way to GUIify many tasks ( like "mv *My Band*.mp3 My\ band/" ) because, face it, it would end up being a dialog box that would require a crude regexp, and would be really bulky at the end of the day. I find that people are moving back to the command-line because they know that it is not going to have weird errors or freeze up on them. OTOH, I would like for you to use Konq and tell me that it does not have enough functionality for doing everything graphically. I think that it does a better job than windows, since it offers so much more, and much better done, with coller themes that don't make you buy shit.
You are thinking of patents, not copyrights. As I understand it they have basically just secured the right to the name "UnixWare". So that means you should stop referring to you Linux box as your "377t UnixWare box".
From what I understand of Adobe stuff, they have a more or less central set of libraries that are platform-dependent, and then they can write platform independent code on top of that....So, except for a few things, the code is proabably the same.
The only time I have ever had standardized E-mail was when I was at the University of Washington and everyone used Pine. Since then, my IT depts. have not enforced a strict e-mail policy.
I still really like Pine, but Mozilla is nice since it lets me see images. But I can't get Thunderbird to run!! Which is odd. Everyone I know who uses Outlook has constant problems, like sending multiple copies when they don't mean to, having it hang, having to deal with all that stupid meeting shit, etc.
I have not been able to get Thunderbird to run on my RH8 box, I always get a (thunderbird-bin:21852): Gdk-WARNING **: gdkdrawable-x11.c:787 drawable is not a pixmap or window.
Ask ANYONE you know for the old CDs, install them and laugh since the DRM crap for XP wasn' there then. Or get a OEM XP copy and install that for free too.
It is expected that Microsoft Visual Basic users will migrate to the next Microsoft product. Since half are going Java, that means that MS is actaully losing ground.
So after reading the article and a little thinking, this seems pretty obvious. What they article seemed to be implying was that any work that the government commissions to a company would be open-source. So, if the govt were to order a database program, that program would be open-source, and the company would have a tougher time selling it to somebody else.
This is nice for us, because more stuff goes into the public sector. Not nice for companies because they can't profit twice on a lucrative govt contract. This would definitly include IBM. So, remember that IBM needs money to fight lawsuits, and they would like the govt to fund them for the development of software and then make more money by selling it to us.
All running OS9 with a similar set of the common applications (XPress, Photoshop, Freehand, Illustrator and so on).
This is why InDesign is a good choice for you. I know how to use Macs ( thanks Human Genome Project ), and by the time OSX came out I was pure linux. But my GF got a copy of InDesign and since I keep a windows box around *only* for Adobe stuff I was able to sit down and immedialty use InDesign.
The take home message is that if you already use Photoshop and Illustrator you know how to use InDesign. Adobe has such consistent UI guidlines that you will not be able to realize which program you are in, and be able to seamlessly work with all three.
From what I saw of the quark screenshots it looks weird and with a poor UI. So use InDesign. Slogan: "Because you use Photoshop and Illustrator anyways."
There's just too much of a lack of quality radio programming these days for me to ever consider buying one of these.
If you live in Seattle, and you are a/.er I guarentee that you are listening to KEXP -- RIGHT NOW!;) KEXP is the best radio staion in Seattle, ( though I also like C89.5 and The End morning show when they do prank calls) since it is public and plays lots of local and indie stuff. They also play lots of world music, and just plain unique stuff. In addtion they get lots of bands to play in their studio ( like The Flaming Lips, The Pale, Death Cab for Cutie ). Although since my favorite DJ is John in the Morning, and I don't wake up till 10, this device would allow me to record the morning show and listen to it during my morning.
If you are not a Seattle person go to kexp.org and checkout their streams ( mp3, real, wma ).
Well, that would explain the poor quality of postings and why there are so many "IN SOVIET RUSSIA" goatsex, etc. posts when they should be discussing class stuff.
I would be really amazed if Joe decided to take the time to call 1000 people during his dinner time to tell them about oil. Often It seems like a ad in a local magizine works better.
Man, I can't believe that I messed up that quote. I meant like the DeathStar, but until someone comes out with a "YAR" program the WebSphere will have no need to be fully functional.
Of course, I don't really care as long it can go plaid.
I am using X Windows and MozillaFirebird is much higher in my view than IE 5.0. Does that count?

Traveling population during the July 4th Holiday - 13%
Drunk population of the United States during any holiday - 100%.
I am amazed that people were sober enough to find their computers.

Yeah, Wasabi7 will be there doing some HEAVY drinking. We just kegged our homebrew.

How come I keep thinking of a new Bill Clinton internet-porn scandal?

Any thoughts anybody?

This is Phish. The fact that they were not-stoned long enough to put ANY sort of page up is amazing.
That was the best comeback ever!

A few questions about the links in point (4). The explanations are all gibberish. The first screen does not devote enough to pr0n.....
seriously, if you could elaborate on what was mentioned in those links that would be swell.
<i> ...Or I'll say Stop again!</i><br><br>
Is this similiar to saying "nee!"?

This was very funny, FYI.
I would say that the Enlightenment Pager is the most useful app that I ever use. And so cool too.

At IBM this is actually called the "WebSphere".
And yes, it is a FULLY FUNCTIONAL WEB SPHERE!
