The market didn't prove itself incapable of doing anything itself. If you remember, Bush "saved" the banks from going under. Obama continues the push to "save" companies that are "to big to fail."
The market would have easily taken care of the situation by FORCING those companies to enter bankruptcy or just failing outright and going away. Once the government stepped in, it wasn't free market doing anything.
So no, the market would have worked (in making those companies FAIL). The government stopped it from working. Why the government rewards failure is the question you should be asking.
You mean stenanography. The GP is using a watermark (watermarks are imprinted in a medium to determine where something came from). A watermark can be easily visible without hiding information. In fact, most sites use watermarks in images to prevent hotlinking and taking credit for the image.
I have/home on a separate partition and I always do a clean Linux install.
I don't wipe my/home partition and once everything is installed, all my settings and data are there with a brand new shiny system.
Don't get me wrong. I've gone through plenty of fresh installs and now certain things don't work correctly and I'll have to flush out my/~ dir soon enough:(.
My way is much easier than yours. You can easily go back to the old version by installing it again.
LESS GOVERNMENT! LESS TAXES. MORE PRIVACY. Minimal gun control.
Romney would have been a good candidate for a truly conservative position... McCain is more like a "neocon" as they are called.
It was Bush that caused the Republicans to abandon their truly conservative ways. It is shameful to see how much the government has grown in these past 8 years.
And no, Obama won't be better for that. McCain (AT LEAST) has some fiscal conservative views. This includes cutting government.
Either way, the USA is screwed for at least 4 years.
You might be surprised, but the traffic that Slashdot sends is quite a bit less than what it used to be a few years ago. When I first got a Slashdot, my server barely stayed up...
Recently, a Slashdot happened and I didn't even notice a sweat and the users coming from Slashdot weren't that much.
Just because you haven't had any spam message on your phone doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
I live in the US and I had to disable text messaging on my phone from Verizon because they would happily charge for spam messages. Plus, I'm not about to watch my phone every 3 seconds for a text message to arrive and then reply. My friends do that, it's like an addiction.
When someone calls, I either answer it, if I find it convenient enough, or they'll leave a proper voice mail. If they don't, it wasn't important.
Yeah, because everyone can afford redundancy like you can.
Most people own a single server that they make backups of in case of it crashing OR have two servers in the same datacenter in case one fails.
I don't know how you can easily do offsite switch over without a huge infrastructure to support it which most people don't have the time and money to do.
I'm pretty pissed. I'm going to get geographically redundant servers after this. I never expected ThePlanet to crap like they did.
Another thing, it took HOURS before a response was given to the situation. I can't stand people saying the communication was good. It wasn't for the first few hours.
When you call support and get a fast busy when your server is down, how are you to know that the place didn't blow up or go bankrupt and cut its losses? Very troubling.
I never had ANY issue like this with EV1 (which ThePlanet ate).
You sir are an asshole.
What I want to do with my money is my business, not yours or any politicians.
Why is ILLEGAL to run an online gaming site in the USA, then? If that was the case, then your post would be what? The whole reason people are spending money elsewhere is because the US can't grip with the fact that gambling is NOT HARMFUL.
For all you people that are bitching and posting on Slashdot, CALL YOUR SENATOR TO VOTE THIS DOWN.
Don't bitch, take action. Yelling and screaming at Slashdot won't do anything.
I am (mostly) a Libertarian.

You're the type of liberal that brings this country down.
Not voting for Obama because I'm white doesn't make me racist, I don't agree with his socioeconomic views.
So I guess all white people should have voted for Obama (democracy be damned!) to show they aren't racist?
I'm sorry, that's a bit bigoted...
WOOOOOOSH
To the mods that rated this Insightful.
You must be confusing conservatism with Republicanism.
I'm a conservative. Usually Republicans are conservative... until GW Bush was the President. Now we have neocons instead.
Don't worry, this election will be four years of doing nothing and after we'll have a proper conservative back for President.
Hmm...

Conservative in the US.

Democrats had their hand in the cookie jar just the same as Republicans.
Think with your head, not your heart.
Issues need to be focused on, not have gut reactions.
Looks like we're going to have another Carter Administration :(.
And it shall be called...
RAPTURE!
I can see it now...
Spoiler for the third season...
It was Kano... that's why he is a mute...

Maybe people are getting bored of the internet.
You're an idiot.
Israel does not equal Jewish people. I'm Jewish and I'm not Israeli...
I'm American.

Wow, I've seen trolls, but this takes the cake.
Do you work for Microsoft?
Internal Mail apps? And you think Exchange is EASY to administer?
I've seen many people use qmail with a web setup component that is easy to use... Much easier than trying to fix a broken mailstore on Exchange.
Plus, you don't pay anything for it past the cost of learning and setting it up.
I've moved on from Microsoft software, maybe you should look at what you are bashing and give it a shot.
My Sapphire Radeon HD4850 disagrees. I'm a reviewer and always use the latest drivers. There were no Linux drivers on the Sapphire driver CD.

Get off your high horse.
ThePlanet dropped the ball on redundant DNS. They had all the EV1 nameservers at that DC which is completely ridiculous...
I'm hosting in that DC that went down.

It stopped being cool to spell things with a K replacing a C in like, 1995. Stop.
You're one of those people who spells Microsoft as Micro$oft too, aren't you?
KDE disagrees.Thank you for your well thought out arguement. We are all much better off after reading your post.

I don't know about you guys, but I'll be getting a crappy color Zune for sure! I think the money is in my back pocket somewhere...

Slashdot rejected my submission that had a link to Apple and the iMac page for this...
