I'm sure they can tell the difference between the 'wrong' sort to apply this too and the ' right' sort. I'll leave figuring the rest out as an exercise to the reader.
Is that it's hard to put your life on hold for 4 more years. You need a lot of money to do that. The kids work hard and that's the trouble. They get part time jobs that turn into full time and before long they're falling behind in their studies. Then they get blamed for being lazy... It doesn't help that a good percentage of the population is activity trying to keep birth control away from then either.
or does Yahoo seem to be dismantling their company piece by piece until nothing of value is left? It all strikes me as shenanigans to avoid paying out money they owe or maybe a Bain style investor gambit.
This is going to require a full rewrite for me and just about everybody. If they are going to do this I wish they'd at least wait until they had compatibility with Chrome so I could leverage the work I'm doing there. Rewriting an app for a mulitthreaded environment is a nightmare of interlocking callbacks...
it's when you fleece the really, really rich. See Bernie Madoff. If he'd just stuck to ripping off old ladies he'd have die a happy billionaire. And they still let his family keep most of the ill gotten gains. Anyway what happens to Theranos depends on how much she fleeced the billionaires. I don't think it was much, and the losses will probably just become tax write offs. The whole thing looked a little like Hollywood math. You know, kinda like how Jedi flopped at the office. Paper money. Nothing real lost, and probably a nice gain from the tax write offs.
Zuck was born a member of the ruling class. It's one of those things that seldom gets brought up. Most of the.com success stories come from guys and gals who had rich parents that had the connections needed to take an idea and turn it into a business. But gotta keep that myth of upward (and downward) mobility alive. The rich don't fall. Regular folk do. But not the rich. They take care of their own. That's why they invented golden parachutes and the like. Me? My parachutes full of holes and my safety net's barb wire.
they post signs to bar non-local traffic during construction. A huge amount of extra traffic along roads not designed for it is dangerous. You'll get people driving too fast in places that are usually devoid of traffic (and therefore have lots of kids playing in the street). The correct solution to this is to build more high capacity roads, but after decades of hearing about all the money big gov't wastes nobody wants to talk about infrastructure spending...
for the road to handle a certain amount of traffic. In theory if more traffic was expected more money would be spent. In practice we've been cutting infrastructure spending since Regan all in the name of eliminating waste and bureaucracy.
The private roads are just fine, it's the public ones that are screwed up.
where any form of left wing press can exist without being crushed by the owners of the media. We have what can best be described as a center-left media on social issues, but looks at _any_ economic issue and you'll find them hard right. The only time I see anyone talking left on economics is the folks at the daily show and their various offshoots and the Simpsons/South Park. They're this countries court jesters. And just like a court jester they're allowed to make fun of the king because nobody takes them seriously or pays them any real mind.
I don't know about Norway but personal automobiles wouldn't work in the US without the huge amount of cost externalizing we do. That's why "clean" coal went away. The damage to people's health and well being gets picked up by the gov't and individuals instead of car companies (to say nothing of the massive infrastructure and the wars fought for cheap oil). Take that away and it's too expensive for anyone but the richest to drive ICE vehicles.
The site didn't know exactly who was doing it, but they knew someone was using their service to find victims and intentionally choose not to disclose the fact. The reason the judge let it go through is that there's evidence the company had knowledge of a specific risk and failed to alert the users. That's why common carrier protections didn't cause the case to be thrown out.
Craigslist has the same issue, and as such they display warnings to users when you respond telling you about common scams.
Yeah, it was a completely different game than the rest of the series (Except maybe for Wonder Boy IV on the Genesis, but that game's layouts were kind of simple, probably due to cartridge space being used up by (for the time) high resolution sprites). The series is also a confused mess of names because the kept changing them between US & Japan and Japan didn't always clearly indicate if a game was part of the series. Most of them are called "Monster World" in Japan. So you get things like "Monster World IV" which is the 6th game in the series.
I was always a little under impressed by Super Metroid because I'd played WBIII and experienced that kind of exploration gameplay back on my Sega Master System. Heck, I still think it's the most underrated game of the 8bit era. I hope Monster Boy is still coming though. The blog's still active but it was basically a spiritual successor. I could go for 2 Wonderboy games myself but not sure if everybody can so I hope this anouncement doesn't hurt the other games sales. If you're reading this buy both:).
The main cost of any business is labor. Expert systems (which is what they're really talking about when they say AI) will save billions, maybe trillions of dollars. The human cost is irrelevant z just like it was for the first 70 or so years of the Industrial Revolution.
Good luck getting anything real done with how important social issues like abortion, gay rights, gun control and religion/prayer in schools exist. Regardless of your opinion on these subjects they dominate most of the world's politics. They're great wedge issues. See, a substantial number of people in this world have a vested interest in preventing humanities problems from being solved. After all, what good is being rich if nobody's poor.
[Her Handlers are] more insightful than the all the Democrats in office or running for office. If you think so little of her, just imagine how little you should think of them.
There, fixed that for you. Sarah's political career ended as soon as she started speaking off the cuff. If she'd continued to listen to her handlers and the billionaire funded think tanks she'd be our vice president right now. Thank God she didn't. I don't think little of her. I'm utterly terrified of her. She'd throw us to the wolves of Wallstreet in ways you can't even imagine. Hell, Obama's why we have net neutrality.
denying them and quoting the statute. My buddy used to keep the letter around so he could show his parents to prove he applied so they'd stop treating him like a lazy ass liar when he had to beg them for money to buy meds.
I'm using term loosely here because everybody else is but you don't actually get Medicaid unless you've been legally declared disabled. Which is a 6+ month long process that often involves a lawyer. Yes, cancer patients can get on it while they're in active treatment. As soon as they are in remission they're kicked off it and put on the State sponsored low income programs. In Arizona that's called AHCSS (pronounced "access"). It's right here. As long as the feds (read:Obama) are paying for it adults can apply.
It's not trivial. It doesn't fucking exist. Sorry, but I'm tired of people who've never had to rely on the social safety net telling me it's there. It's not. It's been gone for ages. The problem is folks like you think it's there. If you ever find out it's not it'll be too late. By then you'll be crushed by whatever disaster hit you. I've seen it happen a half dozen times now and it's really, really pissing me off.
it's better than nothing. The right wing took over the state legislatures and used them to gerrymander Senate & House victories. After that single payer was dead. Our winner take all political system means you just need to get a small number of people out to vote and keep the rest away from the polls. I don't see how the left can win. We need to take back the churches. That's where the civil rights movement started. But there's no money. Maybe if things get a whole lot worse, but I think the 1% learned their lesson and they'll keep us in check this time.
With India. You just can't. Their quality of life is so much lower and they have so many desperate people. I can't compete with people who lack clean air, water and food security unless I give up those things.
Pre-Obamacare single adults couldn't get on Medicare regardless of income. I have two friends with medical conditions that prevent them from working who used to carry around the letter telling them they were denied because they got tired of folks like you convinced that it was somehow their fault they didn't have the medicine they needed to stay alive. Telling yourself Medicare was taking care of these people might make you feel better but it doesn't make it true.
I know half a dozen working poor who only have health care because of Obamacare. One of which is a type I diabetic (e.g. he was born that way) who's only alive today because the Medicaid expansion means he gets his insulin. Until then he'd been showing up at the ER every couple of days hoping to get in before he went into insulin shock. Now, if you're in one of the states that voted down the Medicaid expansion then I'm truly sorry for you and your people. I hope your voters come to their senses and kick those bums out.
I'm sure they can tell the difference between the 'wrong' sort to apply this too and the ' right' sort. I'll leave figuring the rest out as an exercise to the reader.

but in my neck of the woods (America) anyone with the word "Lord" in it's name usually isn't much for freedom and civil rights...

So long as devs are allowed to write to bare Metal.
You'll be upgraded to Windows 10.
