My friend has a DV setup with FCP and Shake, would it be fairly easy to do the lightsaber editing with these product? I'm still learning the basics of them...

Just in that assertion I think that the company probably know the circuit the best, why things were there, and they would HOPEFULLY know when to actually call something 'sounds like', because they obviously know what their products should sound like.
This goes out to all of those that say there isn't a difference in tube amplification, and modelings of just extra 'distortion'. I offer two examples of such failures.
As proof of this, I offer the Vox AC30HW, which I have had plenty of experience playing. Now the same company, has created a Vox Valvetronix amp or whatever crap they call it. I'd only assume that the company the manufactures the AC30 would be able to emulate it the best, however they do a terrible job. Hook up an A/B amp switch, and try to achieve similar sounds. Now push the Solid state POS to higher levels, how does it react. Try different playing dynamics, etc... Now try the same with the Vox. The vox only gets better, and the emulation, doesn't act at all like the real deal, nor sound ANYWHERE as good in depth, tone, or musical dynamics. In other words, it sounds like shit.
Take a Cybertwin amp by Fender, and put that against a real 64 or 65 Fender Twin with great tubes in it, that has been maintained well. Not even in the same ballpark.
So if the manufactures themselves can't even get it right, who can? I'm sure at some point it can be done, but just the A/D and D/A conversion and poor clocking on these digital amps kills it from the start.
Instead of the "Manager" I ask to see who signs their paycheck, because i'm certain that there's only one (possible two) people in the store that do the hiring/firing/and paycheck signing....

I've always had intel (never AMD) based PCs, but then I got a DP 1.25ghz G4, which I'm typing on right now. I use that for my 'power' tasks, such as Protools, Photoshop, etc.. (Also I have 2gb memory in it)
I also have a 800mhz G4 iBook, that I use for around town stuff. It was cheap, fast enough, reliable, and did I say cheap? I had an 850mhz PIII HP laptop (n5350) that I got about 3 years ago, and I'll have to say, that I think the iBook will be usable in 3 years, whereas the HP didn't barely last two years, and after one year was showing it's age really badly and unable to run the most recent OS from Micro$oft as well as it should have. I don't even wanna think about XP SP2 on it.
And I have a PS2 for my gaming, which is minimal, because I need to get work and school done. And anyway, my macs play the best games on the market just as well as anything (Nethack, Rogue, Neverwinter Nights, etc...) And Halo is so nice on the mac.
Never looked at iBooks or iMacs did you?
An iBook can be had for about $900 with student discounts, and what do iMacs go for? $1300? And if you know someone that's a dealer, you can pick up the cheap G5 for not much. I think i know someone who can get one for around 1100ish? Ever priced out an alienware computer?
I'm a student, about to graduate. I have nothing tying me to this country. To live in many of the cities here costs just as much, if not more as european cities. In addition, the wine, cheese, clothing, women, music and food are all better in europe. So why dont you think i'd move? There's nothing holding me here.

New idea, lets get rid of ALL IP in total. I want you to code for 60 hours a week, and try to feed your family on your paycheck of Zero, because there is no profit in giving it all away. Your sole hope is that your code is so shitty, that your company can charge huge amounts to support it, and that will be enough to pay you and the support personel. However, truthfully... it's not.

First of all, while I'm not quite a professional in copyright, I have studied it pretty extensively in my business program at school, and basically every other class I have taken has dealt with the legal aspects of it. These classes were all taught by practicing lawyers and other professonals who have worked in the field.
As I said in another post, if people think the idea of IP is such bullshit, write to their congressmen and tell them to burn the copyright and all IP laws. If enough people do this, and everyone feels it's for the good of all, then i'm sure they will do it soon enough.
But also, most people have NO idea what the copyright law actually entails and have never really read into what Fair Use actually means and is for. Read some copyright case studies and figure it out. I can't believe how many people try to tell me that since they aren't publically performing or profiting from MP3s, or that they are 'learning' from them, that they are legal and covered under fair use.
Copyright can and have been made to the US Copyright law over the years, and even major rehauls. If you think that's what it needs, then be my guest, and get it changed!
And i'm still shocked at the fact that you'd like to see no more major movies or music made, simply because it shouldn't be invested in with your theory. And people aren't going to make Multi Million dollar movies that you all love so dearly (cough cough, Star Wars, LoTR, The Matrix, etc...) if they can't make some money off of them. Yes, people in the past made things without IP laws protecting them, but perhaps now the protection is needed and then it wasn't?

Well explain to me from a business sense, how a company that puts millions of dollars into making cars, is different from a company that puts millions of dollars into making music so that everyone from their janitor to their lawyers can get a paycheck?
It's a company, it's a product. When you take their product and don't pay for it, it damages the company. Just because they can make more, or because the actual 'cost' of the raw product is low, doesn't mean that you should take it for nothing, or less than they are asking. You can't say, "Well i think it should cost less- because it costs only $15,000 of raw parts, so i'll go to a hummer dealership and steal the car and then leave $15,000 in their mailbox".
It's not for you to deciede. If someone puts time/effort/money into making something, then they own it... even if it's intelectual property, or a physical object. Just because the intelectual property is intangible (and easily copyable) doesn't mean it should be free if the owner doesn't want it to be.
What makes it right for Dell for sell "Corporate Class" PCs, but apple not to sell high end computers? Just because apple doesn't need to split their stuff into "Corporate", "Educational" and "Home" computers, doesn't mean that it's no equavalent.
So what's the difference in the "Corporate class PC" and the normal PC?
I have Three macs that I work on, and would gladly have a few more. I'm waiting for the G5's to hit dual 3.0 or dual 4.0, and for a G5 (or dual core) laptop before I upgrade again though...
Agreed. And i won't pay 65,000 for a new Hummer H2 (for so many reasons), but that doesn't give me the right to jack someone outta their car and drive it down the road.....

Yea, i found out about this when I was working for TWC-Greensboro, NC. We had maps of the amount (hopefully none/little) leakage over the areas, and places that had to be fixed. Apparently we would have huge fines and shit would hit the fan (and then the wall) if we had leaks. I didn't even know there was such a thing as leaks, I was just working doing installs and setups for their business internet, but i was the nosey guy in the office who asks what everything on the wall is, and what it's for.
Please explain how something which makes your system faster, equals that your OS that you had previously was crippled? Please tell me one thing about OS X that is 'crippled' and that I can't do, because I feel that it's alot less 'crippled' than XP Home, etc... XP Home doesn't even have Dual processor support. You can't even buy OS X without multi processor support! Talk about crippled!
I'd much rather pay 129.99 every now and then (less with Student Discount) and get real usable updates, with new features under OS X- Than wait around years and get SP that are just Court Ordered updates and bugfixes (plus new bugs).
Believe me, the features in each version of OS X are more than enough to make me want to update. My roommates are still trying to figure out if they should put SP2 on all their systems, as it's already screwed up one. 10.3 didn't screw me up for a second. You get what you pay for (except for linux)

iLok works pretty damn well. People figured out a way to reset some of the stuff a while ago, but the newest version is pretty tight so far.
iLok is used for several TDM and RTAS plugins mainly for Logic, Protools, and DP. I think Max/MSP and Pluggo also use it.
If someone knows a stable hack for this... please tell me, but I think they have fixed all of the holes so far.
