I've been trying to like Linux (and hece the OS community) since 6.1 days and I keep running across the same old tired issues that prevent me from getting anywhere.
There are, in no order:
(1) Documentation. I get far too many RTFM when the FM was written for software that is 3 versions old.
(2) 404s or links to other links which ultimately end up as 404s on web-based FM.
(3) Tired old sayings such as "Try another distro" (I have a stack of 20 odd distros burned onto CD, everything from the big players, down to things like ArkLinux and Icepak Linux) which obviously doesn't help in any way shape or form.
(4) The attitude of *nix users. When I was making the switch away from windows, I had two choices, *nix or BeOS. The Be community was (and continues to be this very day) more supportive, helpful, patient, and understanding than the *nix folks I ran across. Hence I stick with BeOS, because when I run into issues, I know where I can turn and not get attitude and flame-fests.
(5) The old re-inventing the wheel. You know gang, instead of slavishly coping MS, why not try being different?
"Through Pioneer 10 and Voyager 1 We've launched our knowledge to other suns Aspiring and reaching for the highest of beings We've lost our search for the world's basic needs"
I hope it does find something, or something finds it. Earth could use some good news.

Here's a novel idea:
Turn your computer off, go outside and get a real life, you know, complete with real life challenges, real life solutions, real life women, etc. etc. etc.
when Congress used to work on laws that affected the Nation? These days, they would rather pass stupid (and worthless) laws about things that have no effect on the Nation (as a whole) instead of going after the real problems.
As well, add another (potential) law that will be ignored wholesale by the populace.

My co-worker is a riceboy (www.riceboypage.com if you don't know) and I give him endless grief about it, but it's all just gentle teasing, even if my car runs circles around his.
in my case, a credit card was isued to me (while I wasin college) without me even signing up for one!
The only way I found out about the card (which had been sent to my old college address, where I no longer was) was went I went to get a car loan and they asked about a maxed out credit card.
It took a lawyer and a lot of time and effort (mostly on the lawyers part) to clear that mess up, but it impacted me greatly during the process.
There was talk of a lawsuit, but the lawyer advised against it (he wasn't toally positive we would win...there was some kind of loophole involving the post office who delivered the card to a stranger and that they could be held liable as well....ever try to sue the post office?)
As others have mentioned, you're going ot need a lawyer to clean up this mess, unfortunately.
These guys are breaking the law and their whereabouts are known.
Why don't we either throw them in jail or form a nice lynch mob and feed them to the aligators?
After all, who's gonna care?
>>I'll be doing a Slashdot BOF at what I guess ...
BOF?? Bastard Operator From.....Boston??
and how do you determine what is spam from out-of-the-blue non spam?
The distinction is the problem.

Goddamn Heinlein,
Give it up! Yer supposed to be dead for chrissakes! STOP WRITING!!!
Give us unknown nobodies a chance huh?
Thanks.
Fuckup on my part, supposed to have been SuSE 6.1 days.

I can't find the article right now, but there were reports of quite a number of Ms-related glitches when the new 7 series was rolled out.
I'm willing to bet it hasn't been fixed yet.
but organized like Klinger from M.A.S.H. did (IDE cables, for example, are stored under "W" for "Wires")
This way, it's organized, but only I know where everything is. Keeps nosey hands out of it.
Hope this helps.

There's food for thought.
Evil Micro...errr...spammers (yeah, that's it) had DDoS'ed the site, hoping to shut it down for good.

I just finished deleting all those viruses off a client's network, and *now* you tell me they can be used for good? ..oh wait

I have a spare P90 with 64 MB ram on it. I'll tell you *exactly* how "modern" distros like Mandrake/SuSE/Redhat run... ..like shit.
Oh, the CLI version runs just fine, but the moment you toss a GUI onto it, bye bye usefullness.
BeOS on the other hand, is perfect at that speed. Lightweight GUI and consistant OS, no legacy baggage and all that.
