This would be pretty cool if you could add it to a car. When there is a heavy fog to drive through you could project images of the road in front of the driver.
Fog has also been know to shut down airports for quite some time. If they could project an image of the terrian pilot would be able to take off without a hitch.
I forgot to mention that I build my Linux Box out of Old Cellphones that people threw away and it is powered by 100 Hamsters that run in cages that produce wind power that is used for both electicity and the cooling.
And All this Time I have been using Linux for free. Who do I make this linux check out to? How Much? SHould I just check the price of the latest version of Windows and make the check out for 40% of that price?
That quote is kind of rediculous (I am not no english professor)
First of all in the Windows/Linux battlefield that alot of you fight this may be true. But there is alot more software out there that is contracted to be made. In this market most problems are fixed (from my experience) way faster than any major open source projects. I think that statement should be refined to say: Open Source projects are generally quicker to respond to user requests then commercially sold proprietary software.
It's time to start being proud of the software you write instead of trolling around looking to express your discust for companies that produce proprietary software. It's not your choice.
personally I prefer a notebook and a pen over a palm. For the following reasons:
1. The input device is easy. No need to learn some obscure language just to write a reminder.
2. No Batteries necessary
3. High Encryption level. nobody can read my handwriting.
4. Cost Efficient - $1
5. Highly moddable. Tell me about a palm that you can turn into a high performance air vehicle (paper airplane) or use to play a fast-paced game of football (paper football)
No Matter How cheap they make those things I'll never get one again. I need a to-do list to remind me to update my calander to set off an alarm when I need to write a memo. Just a waste of my time.
All the trees in all the world would be gone. We would all get about 50 letters a day from x-rated web sites. THen another 20 for credit cards. And about 30 more for making my penis larger.
My point is that the world is like a sea of oysters. You never know where you'll find a pearl!
You Bring up a very interesting point my friend! I myself have worked many hours on the STARS project (US terminal area system) and I now know a thing or 2 about air traffic.
First let me say that the Canadian projects are without a doubt state of the art systems that would do a great job in the US. The only problem is that there is no way that NATCA (the National Air Traffic Controllers Union) would deem such a system safe for use. See most of this shit in the news is all political. Raytheon once designed a US terminal system for about the proposd budget but unfortunately the union would not accept the system. They told congress that the system was unsafe to control traffic.
They did this because the system had things like a QWERTY keyboard and a mouse. See, US controllers don't use them they use ABC keyboards and track balls. They felt that they would rather use a system that has been made worse to be more like the old system then to take advantage of new technology. That is why the program is so overbudget because we redesigned the whole systems CHI (compuer human interface) to make this new high tech system look like exactly what they have now. (people inherently fear the extinction of there functional role in society) Technology should be good but not too good:)
I actually know many air traffic controllers and believe it or not they are dying to get this system in the field. Compared to what they have now this is like going from a commodore 64 to a Pentium4. I am just saying that there are many people who think this system is great and support it 100%. Unfortunately there are also lots of people out there who have there own adgendas that get in the way of actually doing right with taxpayer dollars.
This game console market is starting to really piss me off.
One would think that a damn game console could last more than 2 years. These days who knows. You (or I) spend about 800 dollars buying a console, games and all of the neccessary addon crap so that they can make it worthless in a year or 2.
Goodluck to all of you ps2 owning folks who are gonna have to go and shell out probably 400 dollars to upgrade your worthless consoles.
I think the console market is going to shit the bed if this is the way of the future. We already have computers that we have accepted the fact that they will be outdated by the time we set them up in our houses. Console games are not important enough for that. I think sony might want to go and make some more tv's or walkmans while us consumers have the chance to use the stuff that they already have on the market.
Linksys is only as linux friendly as the distro that you are trying to install. Linksys May work fine on Redhat, Suse and some others. I had the hardest freaking time trying to run with my Linksys PCMCIA card on Mandrake. The linksys page was everything BUT helpful. MOstly outdated. I finally found help on Google Groups. In my opinion Linksys Linux Support sucks but Googles Linksys support Rocks!
Its funny how people say that there hardware is linux friendly. I wanna see some posts about people's hardware not working and how helpful the particular vendor was in resolving that issue. Thats when the we can say a company has good linux support. All the other times we can just thank all the opensource people out there for writing good drivers:)
It seems like 90% of the people on/. fear that M$ is about to insert a chip into our heads and control the world.
I think maybe we should be a little more subjective. I am assuming that some of us are adults and we have better things to do than wait for a post that involves M$ so that we can try to post the most offensive comments toward this company.
I agree that they have made business decisions in the past (and present) that might be unethical but that doesn't give us the right to not read the article from the post. Because then we might realize that they are not always trying to take over the world. I can handle browsing government sites using passport if I must. Microsoft makes products, goverment buys products. Doesn't seem so bad to me.
I think that Bill Gates has built a minituration device that will shrink humans. He is then going to art colleges around the country and shrinking those liberal pains in the ass. Then M$ ships them back to Washinton and gives them little colored pencils. The final step is inserting them into pc's running windows and hooking them up to the processor. When you turn on the PC they go crazy nuts and draw all the graphics super fast. The only problem is that they die in a week and your pc is full of little dead people.

I am a software engineer who spends 90% of my work time trying to find out what a couple of thousand people want to see in one system.
I didn't have any formal training in school and now I am paying for that. From a Professor's point of view they think that computational problems are the more interesting and complex ones. This is because CS nowadays is taught from a userLESS aspect. Most projects/assignments are never going to be used by anyone in a real world environment therefore why bother designing usable chi for it. I agree with the author of the article. I am somewhat disappointed that CHI is not a big factor in the educational arena meanwhile anyone who designs big systems knows that without a good chi there is no product.
I don't have the FOGGIEST idea what the hell this article is talking about!
I know, that was pretty corny.

sounds pretty amazing
you are not MAKEING ANY CENTS!!! Jokes are supposed to be funny. Go write a perl script and call me in the morning.
I forgot to mention that I build my Linux Box out of Old Cellphones that people threw away and it is powered by 100 Hamsters that run in cages that produce wind power that is used for both electicity and the cooling.
I feed them to my personal Robot Rosie. She also enjoys PDA, Cogs and Sprockets.
Doesn't anyone these days enjoy a good Jetson References. DAMN KIDS these days!
And All this Time I have been using Linux for free. Who do I make this linux check out to? How Much? SHould I just check the price of the latest version of Windows and make the check out for 40% of that price?

Mr. Gates and M$ are probably filing a suit against half of the World.
Free Speech is a wonderful thing

If you lose your job in IT. 1. Put down your perl books or your MSCE library. 2. Start programming.
I'd rather see a stripped down version of Mrs. Gates. At least that would be of some value to a linux user.
