Line numbers never went away from BASIC, they just aren't required any more. I'm not sure if VB.Net supports line numbers, but VB6 does. It is actually pretty useful for debugging with the ELN function, which returns the line number the error occured on. There are tools out for VB6 that automatically add and maintain your line numbering for you just for the purpose of debugging.

And yes, I do use Visual Basic when I need a quick GUI/database app.

I have a P4 2Ghz, with 17" monitor, laser printer, router, Cisco ATA and scanner that is up and running 24/7, and out monthly power bill is around $20. That is here in Southern California, where our electricity bills are ridiculously high too. That $20 power bill also takes into account that we use a lot of lights, and usually have the tv going.

This leads me to ask, why spend a bunch of money on a notebook or shuttle case to use as a server? If you're on a tight budget, won't one of those cost you a lot more than a regular PC would use in power?

Luckily, in California it is illegal to issue a speeding ticket based on how long it took you to get between two points, so they wouldn't have been able to issue me a ticket anyways. If they did, I could fight it and easily win.

Their system has made some mistakes though, and issued me four tickets that were totally unjustified. When I got married, I added my wife's car to my account on their website. About a month later, I got a toll violation notice. I called, told them what happened, and added the car again, and was told not to worry. About 4 months later, I got 3 more tickets for toll violations, and a fine of over $1,000 for being a repeat violator. Again, I called them, and added the car with them over the phone, and was told that the original toll due would be subtracted from my account, and the violations would be removed. About a year later, I got another nasty letter saying that they were about to garnish my wages. I'm still fighting them over it.

I'm tired of the super-surveilance-society we are turning into. Now, they are going to give financial incentives to be monitored (cheaper tolls if you pay tolls electronically).

The Orange County Toll Roads already do this. I'm pretty sure the toll is cheaper because they don't have to maintain the toll booths when you use the FasTrak, but it could still easily be used for monitoring. I got my statement from them about a year ago, and it showed I went between two of the toll booths that are about 6 miles apart in just over 2 minutes. Obviously, I wasn't going 180mph, but it would be easy for them to try and use that against you.

Actually, this makes sense. How much money would he have been out if he had attempted to fight the lawsuit, and didn't pass his finals because of that? I'm pretty sure that Resalier (sp?) costs at least $12k/semester. Plus he would have been out a whole bunch of time that he spent working on passing those classes. He would have also had lawyer fees, and the time it takes to fight the lawsuit.

So actually, the "Oh I don't have time or money right now to go to court over something I'll win...here's $12k, I have to go study. Thank you" makes perfect sense if you think about it. The RIAA realized that, and is probably one of the main reasons they chose to go after someone at a large university, instead of someone who was at a local community college with much less to lose by fighting.

My experience with our diaper genie absolutely sucked. After trying to use it for a few months, we finally just threw the thing away.

With the newborn diapers, we were having to push the diaper all the way into the opening to get it to catch on the little "arms" inside so that we could twist and seal the diaper. It was nasty. You don't want to get stuck doing that. It was also just a real hassle to use.

My recommendation is to skip the Diaper Genie, and go with something else. After we threw ours away, we bought a diaper pail from Walmart for half the cost of the Diaper Genie. It takes regular trash bags, and is MUCH easier to use. It also doesn't smell or let any odors escape.

In my opinion, the Diaper Genie is WAY overrated.

Make sure all of the cables behind/under your desk are out of baby's reach or secured. Little boys in particular are fascinated by cables, and they will pull on them and chew on them. You don't want our infant pulling the power cable out of the back of your computer and then chewing on it.

If your computer is somewhere that your baby can get to the front of it, either move it or buy a case with a locking door over the buttons and drive bays. My son LOVES pressing buttons. He especially likes the power and reset buttons while you are working. The CD Drive open buttons are also one of his favorite buttons to push. He will push them and try to play with the CD tray. If you have an expensive burner, he can and will quickly destroy it. He can also hurt himself on it if it closes while his hands are in it.

If you make a comment to Huggies on their website (Good or bad comment), they will send you a coupon for a free pack of diapers. Also, you will start getting tons of crap in your mail. Look through it, there ar some good coupons in there. We were getting a free coupon each month for Carnation formula from a magazine we had gotten signed up for.

Finally, formula smells bad. For the first several months of their life, your baby's formula will smell worse than their crap. Trust me on this one. The faintest whiff of formula just turns my stomache now.

Most of all, just have fun! Enjoy your baby the first few days when all he does is sleep (It won't last long!). Make sure your wife gets plenty of rest, she'll need it the first several months.
