Problem is that Mozilla DOES NOT use standard API calls, at least in the Mac version though I believe this is correct for all platforms. Mozilla uses it's own XUL language and widgets to do windowing renders... instead of the native UI widgets, etc. again at least on Mac.
Go find any cheap gig=ethernet G4 box... I'm thinking in the range of an 800 or 733... something with a 133 mhz bus then get yourself a nice AGP graphics card AND this is the kicker... go buy an aftermarket CPU upgrade. Powerlogix sells dual 1ghz cpu upgrades for like $600.
So if you can find a G4 box for $500 you're gettin' a deal.
Another option would be the iMic USB audio I/O device. It also is a USB device which has a line in and line out. I got one because my TiPB 500 doesn't have audio in but it would work just as well for this purpose. Plus it's only $39.99
Oh yeah, this assumes I guess that your MD will also do LP2 or LP4 encoding for it's linein all by itself... is this correct? I thought so but I'd love to be corrected if it's false.
Here's one excerpt, though you should read the page for all the info:
"Transferring (Analog)
Doing an analog transfer is very simple - first, plug the analog cable from your Mac's headphone out jack into your recorder's analog input (on Sharp model's, this is the same as Line In). Now, open your MP3 player on your computer, and create a new playlist. In iTunes, this is done in the left hand side by pressing the + button.
Now, drag and drop MP3s in to this list and order them how you wish. Once you're done, you might want to add a blank 5 second sound between tracks to better allow your MD player to create the track marks [ Download 5 second blank track ]. Important notes: make sure that the playlist is not longer than the medium yourrecording to; if you're using a 74 minute MD, your playlist must be less than 74 minutes unless you are planning to use LP2 or LP4 compression. Once you're ready, simply press the record button on your recorder and press play in the MP3 program. While it's recording, check to make sure that the sound level is OK. If you think you need to adjust it; do so on the Mac by changing the system volume."
Ah but if you were a marketing guru you would either A) realize that this is the best possible situation (if you thought Korn fans were big CDR consumers) or B) establish a brand, ie: e-Media (which is "environmentally friendly CDR media.... 'electronic-Media'"), and market it as the paperless storage medium of choice.
Here's a good question... is there a difference between old fashion dirt/rock/organic and Landfill?
Besides it's mineral qualities, what are the differences to US when it comes to space and land surface area usage?
As long as the landfills are segregated between odorous and toxic materials and other... there really isn't a difference. With the new advent of biological agents for enhanced degradation of plastics, etc. I'm thinking that there will soon be even fewer reasons to avoid landfill creation.
Just don't throw in stuff that contaminates the water table and I'm just fine with whatever you want to put in there, as long as I can buy a house at 60% the going rate on top of it in five years....
If nothing else, recycling has created an entirely new industry... and many jobs. In the same way environmental cleanup has also created a new burgeoning industry... cleaning up our own waste has always been a huge industry, we're just thinking up new ways to do it.
When my company set up a server lab last year we had to have the room retro-fitted with a dedicated air conditioning system... high volume flow with multiple output points around the room and it's own inflow duct as well, including filtration, etc.
We supplement it with several large industrial size fans for increasing air circulation to the racks.
Make sure there is plenty of space behind your racks and enough access points to that rear area to allow air to circulate.
More UPS units... two per rack at least depending on their capability.
Check to see if you have other conflicting CD burn software... on my PC I get a message about iTunes CD recording software not loading because it conflicts with some other software... good luck.
If you never resolve the issue, call up Apple and explain, they should be able to credit your account or something.
Too bad it doesn't work for my Mac too... makes sharing my music between machines a little tough don't ya think?
However it's little red, yellow and green window buttons look awfully familiar, I'm surprised Apple hasn't taken them to court over UI infringement.. looks like an also-ran to me.
You mean they might want to treat it like a real "Market".... real time updated prices based on the ebb and flow of supply and demand?
You know this already happens right? It's just that it's not cost effective to update the prices more than once a day. Every day I go into the store the prices have changed... whether they are on sale or the demand is high or whatever... every day the prices change.
Ya know... way back in the olden days when people hunted their own meat and gathered their own fruit and reaped their own grain, etc... going 'shopping for groceries' was a solitary or at most family sized task.
Instead of using shopping as an excuse to meet people why don't you instead go some place where people specifically gather to meet each other? I'm thinking of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, clubs, parks, sporting events, etc. anything more focused on entertainment and enjoyment than on survival and convenience.
Just to reiterate from the last RFID binge.... what you're saying would only work on a person one or two times. As soon as they found out that they had been gouged they would a) sue in small claims for descrimination and unfair practices or b) never shop at that store again and take their business elsewhere.
Just a reminder... AAC mp4s from iTunes... record just fine onto CDs. They also play in any CD player after being burned.
The only caveat is that you can only burn a particular PLAYLIST 10 times. Yes, that's right, you can burn any SONG as many times as you want... just change the playlist. This keeps people from massively duplicating albums, as you say, but allows consumers to do what they will.
"United States of America" as a nation-state is just a mass delusion of huge numbers of people who think that there is some invisible line separating it from "Canada" and "Mexico" what ever they are.... in fact this whole nation-state business is just silly, it's just dirt and shrubbery people, nothing special.
Who came up with it anyways, some old guys from hundreds of years ago. Why do we still believe in that nonsense? This is the new millenium right? Globalization, World Peace, whatever...
What about money? What holds that old belief up... why do we all still accept it? It's just an old idea whose time has come. I mean isn't it a little superstitious to give value to things like paper with pictures on them.. and they're not even rare, I see that same type of paper everyday countless times, how could it have any value?
Just get rid of the hard money and we won't have this little God problem anymore. No more money, no more God... easy as that, and all aetheists will suddenly be safe from the daily harassment they feel any time they look into their wallets.
In the meanwhile their kids won't be forced into saying the "Pledge of Allegiance" to this so-called "nation-state" / mass delusion, "The United States of America".
To keep lawsuits away from your bank account? TO make it legal?
I imagine that would be worth it for you... unless YOU want to administrate a P2P yourself and bare the responsibility. I mean most of the software is OSS and you could do it yourself, if you've got the guts to negotiate contracts with the RIAA, etc.
Hmmm first thing that comes to mind is that by using the CD you have given your implicit approval to the CD manufacturers to install said software. I'm certain that there is some sort of EULA contract associated with this that you have to agree to before you are granted license to use the copyrighted work.
Now secondly, if it interferes with other files or software then you can use number 2.. though you could argue that the method it uses of acting as a middleman between your other music and your music players could constitute impairment in and of itself.
Number three depends on 1 and 2 being valid... sort of an escalator of seriousness or intent.
I don't think SunnComm is committing a crime but I do think their technology is useless and defenseless as a viable copy protection method. They don't deserve anyone's business at this time as they have nothing to offer. Just because you invest time and money into tech doesn't mean you somehow have a right to profit from it.
If this were to come about and someone stole say a celebrity's image and used it on all games of this type, would that be considered identity theft? Would they have to also claim to BE that person as well? What about an ordinary guy who's got nothing to lose but his reputation... should someone be allowed to go around the gaming systems committing crimes or just stupidity WEARING YOUR FACE?
Open Source Society huh? That's what it sounds like... life becomes transparent and everyone can make decisions based on the most available information accurate or not. The only caveat I'd like is that people also get a chance to fix the bugs in their life... mistakes get made don't judge until it's obvious they don't care about fixing them, even then just stop interacting with them... kinda like on Sourceforge.. if a project hasn't been active for a long time it obviously isn't being maintained.
The government or corporations are interested in what YOU do on a day to day basis. Most people, I'd say 99.999% of people hold absolutley no interest as individuals to any government agency or corporation. Sure they are interested in you as a statistic in a large group as a means for monitoring TRENDS but they have no interest in your personal life or daily habits as discreet events or even as individual patterns of behavior.
On the other hand you can create a blip on their radar by participating in various types of suspicious activities on a regular basis and thereby enter into the 0.001% of people they give a damn about. These activities would be: homocidal behavior, association and participation with known terrorist organizations or drug cartels and tax fraud.
Any other type of activity is already sufficiently monitored, including: your business or employment, your education, your legal purchasing habits, your real estate or property status, your stock trades, your credit accounts. If you think those things are not monitored 'sufficiently' by various organizations and accessible to government authorities then you're deluding yourselves. By sufficient I mean that your general preferences are known... do you buy a lot of books, fiction or non-fiction, magazines... all available as needed, whether from friends as eye-witnesses or as records kept by the book store you frequent. If you don't buy anything but used books, this is also a general preference that will be noted. Anything more is pretty useless to people. Amazon.com doesn't care if you buy one murder mystery but if you buy three they will make an effort to show you more of them and willl avoid showing you home improvement books.
We live in the age of information. Would you have it otherwise? Do you want access but you don't want others to have it? You want to know what the government is doing at all times but have decided that they don't get the same sort of priviledge. Information is a tool to be used for good or ill... nothing more, don't like who's making the decision about how it's used... get out and vote and campaign for new people.
If you don't like the way a corporation behaves... boycott and sponsor general boycotts. It's a free market, start a company that offers an alternative, if you can be competitive with the other guy's practices.
How long do you think a system of personalized prices would last? One day? Two? Who would buy from a store that charges different prices to different people? Poor people might if they got a really good deal compared with a flat priced competitor.... Sale items come to mind, though they are only regionally differentiated. Point is that you have the right to shop around, nobody's forcing you to buy from one vendor.
Protesting is protected by law, who cares if you're identity is known... in fact it might benefit your goal by telling them what type of people are protesting... currently all they see is an anonymous mob, whom they can treat with disrespect because they don't know who you are or what role you play in society. What if they knew you were a grad student at a prominent university and that the guy next to you is pre-med and the girl next to him is a daughter of an amabassador... maybe they'd take it a little more seriously and listen a little closer. Maybe you think they should treat you all with respect despite your status.... so distribute an RFID with your message on it that will show up more prominently than any other tag in the vicinity. How about RFID 'tagging'. RFID 'bombs' with a slogan being broadcast... use the tools to your advantage. Pass out jumpsuits to all the protesters which are RFID free... whatever...
technology is not moral or ethical or capable of any form of judgement, people are.

Not very insightful... just kind of cliche.
I for one welcome our new HIGH RESOLUTION whip wielding overlords!
I will enjoy seeing every little detail.
