I wonder how much they are spending on theses launches? I assume that using an ICBM rocket is probably far cheaper and (with nuclear arms cutbacks - especially in long range specs) far more expendable.
Still this is probably costing several million in administration and R&D alone.
Hopefully they are learning a lot and this will aid missions in the future.
I'm sure they would send you a CD with the update and a password to get in to the encrypted diskimage on the CD, if you just ask... and send a check for $20 (processing/shipping fees).
I'd send ASCII copies of all the great works of art. both in black and white and in color. What's great about ASCII is it's huge compression rate. You could fit all of them into the space of a good sized/quality jpg file.
Didn't notice. I on the other hand assume that most/.ers are using Mozilla (either Windows, Mac, Linux or *NIX version) with lovely tabbed browsing (to load random links in the background).

Sounds like you need to find a nice 400 or 500 mhz G4 and upgrade it to either a dual 500 mhz G4 setup via Sonnet Technologies or a brand spankin' new upgrade option of a 800mhz or 1ghz G4 via Power Logix
There are also a few over-clockable Sahara G3 upgrades available now. Look around a little in the classifieds or on the sites mentioned or in general ie: google.
Remember also that with 10.2 OS X will be a viable OS on many older systems as long as you can add a 32 MB AGP graphics card to the mix (Quartz Extreme promises to increase performance across-the-board by at least a 150% if not more). That is not to mention the fact that it is supposed to be compiled with GCC 3.x which brings it's own performance boosts as well.
"Anybody that thinks Apple should/will have a solution to this problem in a few days really ought to rethink the problem a bit."
It is entirely possible on the other hand that they have been addressing this issue for the last several months while developing OS X 10.2 and that the fix is right around the corner. Maybe not a few days but within a few weeks is reasonable. Especially as they are looking for high marks from the government regarding security.
Read the articles about netinfo if you don't KNOW what you are doing here. You could royally screw your system. AND for real, MAKE a BACKUP! of the database before you do anything.
So you're saying that software should conduct a survey or psychological exam during installation to determine which metaphors to use?
Barring this most time consuming and completely subjective process I vote for consistency. A particualr UI may not be the best but if it is consistent with itself and similar to existing UIs then it stands a good chance of becoming familiar to the user quickly.
Using metaphors from the 'real world' as UI to virtual applications is a completely over-rated methodology. There are soooo many more things you can do in a dynamic interface that simply are not possible with it's real world counterpart... ever try to get drop down menus working on your VCR's faceplate? or how about getting tooltips to work on your remote control? Maybe tabbed control panels for the Air conditioner in your car?
Just a few examples of where industrial design does not cross over to software design.
Being new he may have his settings as html instead of the beloved Plain Old Text, in which case his 'paragraphs' won't translate in to line breaks, hence the 'stream of consciousness' effect.
"The courts decided back then that a UI is not something that can be copyrighted."
They must have changed their mind. I seem to recall that Macromedia and Adobe are currently in a sue fest regarding UI copyright infringement at the moment and both are winning their cases against each other.
You also have the option of declining an install. Any app that requests admin auth can be declined by virtue of the process.
Don't like IE?... use Mozilla! which so far has got to be the best user experience in a browser I've ever had (flash performance or lack thereof not being a big issue... try Chimera's latest builds if you want to see Windows speed flash on OS X).
Actually a lot of the 'geeks' I know are 'switching' to Apple hardware, specifically because they can run YDL and OS X and Microsoft Office/Virtual PC.
If you can run your all important (no sarcasm intended) Linux distro on it then who needs Windows (gameplay) especially when more and more games are being ported to OS X within a month or two of Windows and at the same time as Linux (NWN), which is likely to shrink to a month or less over the next year.
The only thing missing is a more mainstream distro of Linux or the merging of say Redhat with YDL for big business.
Add to this economies of scale with more people buying Apple hardware == Apple hardware gets cheaper, and you have a winning combination (unless Apple gets too greedy).
I was thinking GPL myself... public domain with copyright. Wouldn't that be interesting if the US Gov starting using GPL for all documents? Just put it in the metadata and a quick notice at bottom.
hmmm makes me think I want to do that with all my documents. Is there a license attribute for meta-data tags in html... if not I'll make one.

Yep, just set up your cron and forget.

I agree.
It's amazing how people from different backgrounds can get along just fine and do amazing things together when your throw the politics out the window.

Here's an example:Mona Lisa
and one in color... html coloring.

Dude, I was gonna say that. You went forward in time to see my response and then came back to the present to say it before me, right?

I heard that Apple has put several of million dollars into the increased yield of LCD manufacturing for large sizes.
This was of course a natural response to the horrid problem of having huge lags in manufacturing during the release of the 15" iMacs.

Why didn't you should take it back for a refund and get a card that works for you?
" Any human that requires a chemical stimulant, should volunteer to be sterilized so evolution can progress."
How about this:
'Any human that requires anything other than a rock should volunteer to be sterilized so evolution can progress.'
or
'Any human that requires a derived chemical...
or
'requires technology
or
'requires knowledge
Yeah, they all sound stupid now don't they.

Real time Special effects processing? Atmosphere / Meterological visualization? Serious 3D game LAN parties?
You should try out Mail.app again. Since the last update it has improved in performance and stability.
I used to have problems with large mailboxes as well in Mail but now it is working quite well.
Isn't it 'interesting' and 'insightful' of you to post this non-sensational news.
You do make several good points. I was just adding to them.

Well that is if you don't count the Bill of Rights and the rest of the AMENDMENTS to the Constitution.
Seems to me like it's been at 2.0 RC X.x for quite some time.
