I would suggest being very open and helpful to developers, they are more likely to stay with you if they are happy and want to do more.
Community is a good way to expand pr - have some forums and let the developers make their voice heard,
you will be greatly rewarded...
Would this make the actual vote calculation fast?
I mean, how long does a SQL query take?
Im reminded of that one futurama where nixon runs for president... "8:00 and now for the robot vote... 8:01 the robot vote is now closed"
do these new drives spin the disc really fast or use some kind of multi-write technology? The article didn't mention it (as I can see)
I remember reading that the current drives are reaching a limit where a disc will shatter because it is spun too fast, could these drives have a problem with that?
would you say that it is easier dealing with local customers in a personal way that the "big boys" dont? or does this make business harder? do people try to sweet talk you?
you could take this a step further and change not only the transmission system but also the user!
what if you trained yourself to read numbers?
no more slashdot at work, oh no just a spreadsheet:)
a lot of work? perhaps, but who would catch you?
I remember reading that conventional memory only lasts ~25 years because of cosmic rays and other radiation.
So does that mean that all my nintendo carts will stop working?:(
From what I read in the article this service would be primarily used to deal with bulk mailing of stuff the user would actually want, like government forms (housing cited in the article) and banking documents.
As this is a pure opt in service, it seems unlikely people will opt for mailings from busineesses they are not interested in.
This kind of shift is represented here with things like efiling and online banking.
Cool, now I can watch a full screen movie and pretend to do actual work while on a plane...
Bet the guy in the next seat will be impressed, and in the end isnt that all the matters?
I am reminded of a story of my fathers - in the early 80's (I think) he said he ordered a sun system for drafting - thich came with a really expensive monitor - the first one was destroyed in shipping and never got to him, so they sent #2 -the guy shows up with it intact, and asks them to open the door for him as it was heavy, so my dad opens the door and the guy trips and drops it with a loud *thud* the guy them says "um sign for it" my dad refused to sign for it - and told them to take it back. After a really pissed off phone call to sun they had someone hand deliver him one from a local sun service center.
moral: anything worth doing is worth doing yourself.
oh great now we'll hear about secret black market roller coasters in mexico...
Actually they still had a pretty good market for movies until not too long ago...
Im guessing for stuff like overseas publication
I think I heard something about Mission Impossible being the last movie released on beta...

the real reason is that microsoft wants to show off the xbox running linux, so they can claim the $200,000 - hey atleast they make money on one of em!

would be to set up a tv in a wall a few feet away that plays 24/7 - which would get used more?
spend $5 on google and get your page slashdotted, wish I would have thought of it.
