If I recall, the fusion bomb requires a good amount of nearly pure U-235 or weapons grade Plutonium. In addition, the equations for 'critical mass' and the 'implosion vectors' for the fission "trigger" for a fusion bomb are TIGHTLY guarded. Those are the limiting factor in building bombs.
It's not too hard to make things radiate. VERY hard to make them go BOOM.
404 is FILE NOT FOUND. If you entered http://www.slashdot.org/thisisnotafile.html you would get a 404.
When the domain does not resolve, you get a "DNS error", which on MSIE, resolves to "search.msn.com/dnserror.asp" and asks you to search for it on MSN. Here is the text:
<i>We can't find "www.slashhhdot.com"
You can try again by typing the URL in the address bar above. Or, search the Web:
Go to MSN Search to see complete results for "www.slashhhdot.com".

Soon when my ISP's DNS cache is updated, assuming my ISP doesnt somehow reject that DNS update), I will see Verisign's "register me" page. Microsoft will be pissed.
404 errors aren't used by Microsoft's browser by default. They rightfully return the Site's own 404 page. I don't have any extensions if you're asking me...
But, this little DNS move would not affect 404 errors (or assiciated plugins), because they occur after DNS resolution, when a resolved server returns the error.
Sure you do, if you have a REAL router (or a DSL router even) you should be able to null-route that IP. Or actually, you might even be able to convince your ISP to do it with a short, friendly letter to the admin.
Well, My mail server sends with my domain, but doing a REVERSE lookup on my "shared" server reveals a name owned by my ISP. This would result in 50% of the smaller domains's VALID email addys being blocked from those tools. I much prefer to think they will forward-lookup based on the domain in my "from" address and find that the IP does, in fact, match the server it was sent from.
So, yes, forward lookup is how those products work but, I don't think they'll break, because they look for a MATCH, not simply a "not invalid" response. As far as I'm aware anyway.
Doesn't this this short-circuit Microsoft's attempt to capture ad revinue from all mis-typed domains through their Internet Explorer?
I always thought that a revolting misuse of monopoly power and I use Mozilla exclusively now (that was one of the primary reasons I switched, tho not the only one).
Prepare for Microsoft to be EXTREMELY UPSET. MSN's search count will be cut in 1/4 by this move too.
I think the phonics are really necessary for beginning readers. I've seen kids taught on the "whole word" method who were COMPLETELY unable to figure out a really basic word that they haven't ever seen before.
But, the whole concept of making a kid read is an exercise in helping them to develop their own "whole word" recognition, hence why the shift changes from phonics to "reading" somewhere in elementary school.
<i>the offence I feel when seeing pure crap being passed off for the truth.</i>
The bill of rights is what i condsider truth. Every person should DESERVE and in fact, DEMAND those rights. Anyone who EVER disagrees with that (regardless of the "means to and end" argument) is, in my opinion, gravely wrong.
I would vote libertarian if I thought they had a chance. If a bill ever came up in congress to enact "runoff voting", I would dedicate my weekends to supporting their effort because I believe that the current system DISABLES those who disagree with the current system. Either you vote "slightly right of center" or "slightly left of center" (or you buy into their two or three KEY issues, where they push slightly more outwards, ignoring the REST of policy).
I think I would vote libertarian... except for the fact that I'm in favor of strict corporate legislation. Individuals should be absolutely free according to the bill of rights. Corporations and the government shoud not, in my opinion because they are not people with feelings. They are simply money-making entities which shield the people behind them from semi-illegal and usually immoral actions.
Spelling it 'demokrat' doesn't make you more intelligent, nor more right. Either you're already right, or you're wrong. Either way, you're making an ass of yourself by making such blanket statements.
I fully agree with you. The bill of rights is being trod upon and that is BAD. I started this sub-thread by saying that and some folks were arguing that "in just this one case, it's ok" and I rightfully got upset. I guess we agree then. Dunno why we're debating...
The "consonant pairs" seem to always be still paired in these words.
If I type
sllpenig it's clear I'm typing "spelling"
but, if I type
slpenlig it's not so clear anymore.
What about: according
Aoccdrnig (as in the article) is ok but... aocdrncig is not nearly as clear
There's a limit to how far your brain can stretch it. Some consonant pairs your brain DOES intepret much like a single letter, because it's an irregularity in english.
Words that use such consonant pairs and triplets like "tch" are much harder to distinguish when those pairs and triplets (which really sound like a single letter) are split.
Oil companies are producing substances that have the capability to cause death or serious injury.
In fact, gasoline fires are a dangerous fact of life around gas stations- there was a massive explosion at one recently not too far from here.
Gas also contributes to many brain injuries by those who inhale its vapor. Not to mention the fact that gasoline is extremely toxic when injested.
You say it can be used legally? oh?
Methaphetamines are given out as prescriptions for a variety of psychological conditions and, in addition, are commonly distributed to those in the military as stimulants.
So when they arrest YOU for storing a gas can in your garage "well, it might have been used as an explosive", you can wave your hands around and shout "But I'm a single mom!!" That will imress them. It'll impress your cellmate too.
The government by its very nature will abuse laws and it's the citizen's job to make sure they don't do that. Sad that it's becoming illegal to do that these days.
If this works on a Meth producer, it can (and will) be expanded.
It's clear intent is to prevent the illegal manufacturer of chemical and biological warefare agents. Meth may be a bad thing, but a warfare agent it is not.
Just because you think it's OK in THIS situation, doesn't mean it's worth allowing them to take that baby-step down that slippery slope. They won't stop stepping until someone MAKES them stop.
This is hardly a new topic, especially around here, but I found this quote interesting:
(from the article discussing how the US removed a bunch of info from Iraq's weapons report)
<i>But perhaps most importantly, the missing pages contain information that could potentially make a case for war crimes against officials within the Reagan and the Bush Sr. administrations. This includes the current Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld -- for his collaboration with Saddam Hussein leading up to the massacres of Iraqi Kurds and acting as liaison for U.S. military aid during the war between Iraq and Iran.</i>
Cool. Rumsfeld is a war criminal.
Too bad THAT will never come out. I wouldn't be TERRIBLY shocked of my door flew off it's hinges right now and I was faced with a squad of FBI claiming me as a "domestic terrorist" and locking me up without trial.
One thing that scares me about these systems is the potential for spying on people.
As soon as it is mandatory for cars to have transmitting GPS recievers to track their movements on highways, then it will become standard issue in cities and other areas. Call me paranoid, but I don't WANT the government tracking me like that.
Second, along the same lines, there's the potential that the system could be used to issue things like speeding tickets and other traffic citations. I guess this is another case of the fact that people appreciate the right to BEND the law. There are some toll-systems in place now that give speeding citations if you cover the distance between two toll-booths in too short a time, but as far as I'm aware their deployment is limited.
From these "modified" CG applications, how far are we from completely CGI movies that are indestinguishable from real life?
Final Fantasy is the closest we've come, but it was still clearly CG. If you try to, there are a few brief seconds where you can suspend the belief that it's CG and it actually looks real. Maybe in the future it won't take effort... but instead will take effort to see that it is CG instead of live-action.
Would a completely CG movie be economical? Beyond just the "geek appeal" of a pure CG movie, I mean... In mainstream movie making, could CG characters eventually be cheaper than "real" actors? Somehow I doubt it.
I like to think I maintain it pretty well. Sure I only graduated from college 9 months ago, but I drive a 6 year old car, I enjoy mountain biking and I spend less than $150/mo on groceries because I do a lot of fresh veggies and rice and I don't eat very much (and almost no "sweets").
I work 40 hours a week and I love my job. I'm off work by 4pm and have a few hours to be outdoors or with friends.
I make $55k per year. Once my education and other debts are paid off by the end of this year, I'll be putting up about $1500/mo in "extra cash" that I can maintain for anything.
If I could change one thing, it would probably be my limited vacation time. I get roughly 14 days per year plus national holidays, which is a bit slim for my liking, but it was a tradeoff I had to accept.
haha.. you got me there.
:-P
Thanks!!
Esoteric words like altruistic seem to befuddle me sometimes.

You don't think they have esoteric "we should HELP the Internet" type idea in mind, do you?
Advertising rotation... absolutely! They're after the ad revinue. These types of things should come as no shock.

You do realize that if you shot a DEA officer, you would ALSO be locked up for life?
Just making sure you realize that.
So it's either death or life in prison for you if they make that simple identity mistake. Do you want to give them that power?
