    Well the point of my post was of course subtle, and sure seem to have gone way over the head of the repliers.

    Yes I'm well aware that that could be a solution, however, gp said he didn't want to pay for a new one, so they must have allowed him to disable it and thus making the protection a moot point.

    It only takes the "hackers" a single login to screw you over.

    Firefox doesn't per default encrypt your passwords, and you are storing the passwords somewhere else than where everything else is stored compared to kwallet or the gnome thing.

    Some banks around here (Denmark) supports it - you do however have to specifically ask for the feature. Even the national digital signature is going to get upgraded to one time passes.

    Try asking around, they might have the feature, but for a fee.

    I used to be an avid Gnome user, and I still find KDE to have some major annoyances, but one thing that I really love is Kwallet (yes you can use that on gnome as well, but its greatly integrated into KDE).

    When you visit a new forum use mkpasswd or anything like it, drop it into kwallet and you don't have to worry about such problems (do remember to keep a backup of kwallet files though :-) )

    So basically you are holding out till the games and hardware are almost free?

    Good idea, however if you like to play online you might end up with a problem since you are most likely going to be the only one left still playing the game...

    Also no matter if we are contributing or not, the climate _is_ changing. This means we are going to have millions, if not billions of climate refuges, and the world as a whole need to work out how to handle it.

    As others have pointed out this also means new diseases in areas previously thought to be rid of them. Going to be some quite interesting times to live in. (Worst curse according to Terry Pratchett - "May you live in interesting times")

    I don't mind ads. What I mind is intrusive ads - like the ones where they put a major overlay (that fails to dismiss in some browsers). Or the ones hosted on some obscure adserver that fails to respond in reasonable time hindering the browser in rendering the page. Or the adsites that have been spewing up virus infected ads.

    I never block locally hosted ads - unless they are flashy or intrusive.

    Sorry to blow your bubble there matey, but I ain't dead and none of my friends have been killed by random shootings/stabbings/idiots.

    And as I have said in several other replies, the law is there to discourage the attackers. You tell me why some junkie seeking money would seek rape or murder, my mind can't make the connection between a robbery and a rape, but you sure seem to think they go hand in hand..? In fact you are quite likely to get money just by asking nicely around here, I sure as hell hope we don't hit the social low the USA has hit. Take care of your next man and he will take care of you. (No I'm not religious, but I do believe that almost everybody wants the best for his or her next)

    why is it all of you weapon wielding maniacs insists on inflicting harm upon others? Robbery isn't about harming people but gaining money, let the perpetrator get away with your stupid cash for crying out loud, get the cops in, talk to your insurance company and let the proper people handle it.

    And fwiw anyone stabbing someone else usually ends up inflicting wounds upon themselves, you might stand around with your rambo knife looking tough in the mirror but when push comes to show you are probably gonna punch it right into the other guys breastplate and take your own fingers off...

    You presume quite wrong.

    First of all, just because a robbery doesn't end up in a gunfight doesn't make it profitable. We got quite competent police and quite a lot if not most robberies gets solved, the perpetrator gets to do some time in jail (months usually) a stern talking to and put back into society, this works quite well.

    As I said to the sibling, if you are truly so narrow minded and vengeful I feel sorry for you and hope you seek help, you are definitely not helping your society by spreading false fear.

    If people by law are unarmed the robber can safely assume the victim will hand over his or her money.

    Personally I will any time give up my money rather than face the option of taking someones life or losing my own - its just money for Christ sake! Remember; when you are being approached your gun is in your holster - his is already out, who do you think gets to shoot first?

    And all that crap about taking care of civilians - BS! if you got a gun and start flashing it people will die, even at 15 m. most people will be wildly inaccurate with a pistol - and if they are inexperienced with munition they are likely to have bullets that will go straight through the target and hit whatever is on the other side (hint even the police in several countries have bullets that fail to stop inside the target, and have killed innocent bystanders).

    I'll take a gun less society anytime.

    I live in a country with strict gun control. Its surprising how often we manage to not get robbed by anyone with a gun.

    Do we have shootings? Yes, however, there is quite a long way between shootings and usually its the police doing the shooting. Do people get robbed? Yes of course they do, but strangely seldom with a gun - usually its a knife being wielded. The fear surrounding a gunless society is absolutely bonkers.

    The last few piracy events involving Danish ships have ended bloodless, perhaps you are referring to piracy used for smuggling? Most piracy around Africa at least is about ransom, if you bring guns into that you are in trouble.

    That means instead of somewhat bloodless captures the pirates will be shooting first and looting later.

    Wouw... Just wouw...
    What kind of equipment do you have that can sustain those rates? Standard consumer grade hard disk drives can seldom sustain more than 60MB/s, my DVD drive does around 24MB/s - CDs are around 8MB/s - on a really good day(yes its above 20MB/s, but if 20 annoys you I'm assuming you are blasting away well above 100MB/s) . Also why are you reinstalling so often that less than 20MB/s is a problem?

    But it does serve data fast enough to be a media center - I know this because lots of people do that. Also it can work fine as a backup server for small stuff like like a home.

    While I do agree on problems with getting it to fit I call BS on performance and accessories. Everything is standard compliant, please provide examples of overpriced accessories.

    You pay premium for low power and small size - and as a media machine VIA nano can perform as good or better than most med range PC's.

    I think your problem is you want it to do something it wasn't designed for and when it fails to do so you cry wolf.

    What purpose could an mini-ITX have in your environment where a throughput above 10MB/s is needed?

    To stream DVD you need 8Mb/s, to stream Blue ray you need around 50Mb/s. If it acts as a high availability file server for multiple users you are doing it wrong anyways.

    Even if you only get 50% of a Gig-E you can (theoretically) sustain playback of 10 Blue ray movies, everything else will give up in the system long before the network is maxed out.

    Interestingly enough I've been using ATI for more than 5 years and I have never had any problems.

    Passive cooling ATI is actually easier than NVIDIA but you need to buy the heatsink - I'm writing this on a HD 3870 passively cooled, try keeping one of NVIDIAs flagships passively cooled...

    OpenGL has worked fine on my boards for at least 3-4 years, so I think you just like so many others are having grievances over something you have heard from others but never actually experienced. (You claim years of bad experience with ATI on notebooks, but you will get bad everything from shared memory GFX cards on any notebook - they weren't made for gaming/3d applications)

    Isn't it a bit of conflict of interests?

    The lead developer also happens to make money on the working branch of the program. What happened to all the hippie good feel? And the fix to get current version to work with 2007; http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=586545&cid=23825339 requires people to remove a couple of file and install the right ones, bit convenient they left that thing out?

    If you ask someone if theres a recovery plan in place and they say yes, you can't really do more than that. Keep asking and you are going into hot water for being a nosy prick.

    GP and my sibling have no idea what they are talking about.

    Getting a paper that says that you have achieved some level of knowledge is a big thing, thats why some people study so bloody hard. Yes a piece of paper doesn't necessarily mean you are smart, but it does show that you where able to sit still for more than 5 minutes and actually learn something. Getting a degree is also just a piece of paper that mainly tells your employer that you are able to learn and finish something - its of course also a document proving that this field is highly interesting to you.

    Having a set of certifications is nice when you are shopping for a new job - to big business a certification means you can (more likely) be put into a senior position without having to be trained first.
