  1. Re:What's the plural of virus? on Bugbear Windows Virus Making the Rounds · · Score: 1

According to my dictionary "boxen", as a noun, is the sport of boxing. I have also seen "boxen" used to refer to speakers, but I think this is where the Germans have borrowed the English and added an appropriate Germanic plural suffix.

  2. So So Tutorial on Secure Dynamic Content with Apache · · Score: 1

I am a bit of a fan of the IBM tutorials and I usually spend a couple of hours each month reading through one or two. I have found that the ones I have read are not too hot on detail but I believe they are designed to be digested in an hour or so. So naturally they give a good introduction to a topic, but also provide a nice stepping stone to more complex material.

Well I'm not entirely sure but I found that in my error_log a couple of bad hits from other Apache Servers. I found the Apache Test page on these servers which I suspect is a bit of a giveaway that perhaps these are not active servers.
Anyway I could be completely wrong, but since these hits were from Web servers I kind of suspect that these servers have not been patched.... God I hope that the log entries below don't indicate that I've been hit and damaged

Well it's that time of year; time to dust off the P2P applications and try and hunt down a copy of the show before I leave for work.

  6. Underwhelmed by the current catalogue on 'Harry Potter' Offered (Legitimately) on the Net · · Score: 1
Warner Brothers is distributing several movies, including Harry Potter and Mars Attacks via the internet.
This is a slightly misleading lead since I took a look at CinemaNow's movie catalogue and saw exactly zero movies that I wanted to see. Films such as Harry Potter were not there and what I saw seemed to be an array of late night B-movies.

Perhaps I am wrong on this, but the current catalogue didn't seem to have anything has had a cinema release. Perhaps there are some gems in there but movies such as Star Warp'd and Olympic Greasy Watermelon do not exactly inspire me to spend some money.
  7. Mandatory inclusion of Java? on "MS Killed Java" (on the Client) JL Founder · · Score: 1

I know this is going to get modded out of existance, but what the hell anyway.

Surely I am not alone in feeling uneasy at the fact that a court has ordered Microsoft to include Java with Windows. Now IMHO Microsoft should be punished for the java license violations, but at the end of the day this is their product. I don't see many people screaming at Microsoft to include Netscape/Mozilla with Windows. (I believe that IE should not be included and people should be free to make up their own mind.)

At the end of the day Microsoft could have chosen not to include Java in the first place and probably would have stopped Java on the desktop in its tracks.

As to emailing the ISP, well Deutsche Telekom is my ISP and they have just announced a massive loss, so I don't think they will be too quick to try and get rid of paying punters.

  13. Giga Games on NBC in Germany sounds similiar on G4: The Pong Channel? · · Score: 1

In Germany, NBC runs a couple of related shows under the banner Giga, one of which is called Giga Games this runs for about 2 -3 hours a night, 5 nights a weeks. The overall quality of the show is OK, but sometimes they really struggle to find content for the show, so they end up playing a game and yapping for about 10 minutes just to fill up time slots. I hope that this channel has solved the problem that there just isn't that many games coming out to fill a completly new channel.
