Or sometimes, flipping through a document is easier than viewing it on the screen. I wish I had a PDF viewer which was really, really fast. Maybe something that could pre-render pages without gobbling massive amounts of memory...

If you read places like CDFreaks you'll see that extracting CD Audio is a mix of science and voodoo.
Theres issues of offset values (as with CD audio it is difficult to hit an *exact* location on the disk), plus the way the reader deals with C1 and C2 error correction, as well as how different extracting software interfaces with the hardware.
It would almost be safe to say two mp3s with the the same MD5 are one file copied twice (as opposed to two individually created mp3s), but that doesn't mean they are illegal...
OR there's a chance they intentionally downgraded it (or were told to by UL) because the drive runs rather hot at full speed (several people have commented on this) and this might be an issue in a notebook computer.
Also bare in mind the Powerbook is a portable machine - DVD burning has got to be a ludicrously precise process, and doubling the speed at which the disk spins has got to increase the margin in error, especially in a setting where it could be shoved or moved around...
I guess results which come in over time will tell...
My guess is that PalmOne will continue this level of support for the Visor, but I strongly doubt that they'll start the production lines rolling again, especially when the bare-bones Zire and upcoming Zire 21 models are there for people who want a low-cost, monochrome organizer.
I remember reading at the time of the aquisition that the Handspring brand will still be used to label the Palm-based Smartphone Treos - a market Palm(One) tried to enter but failed, but which Handspring has a good foothold, in both recognition and product...
"The Antaur also ships with Via's "Padlock" feature, a random-number generator that actually produces "true" random numbers by measuring random components of the thermal energy produced by the chip, according to its designer, Glenn Henry. RNG generators can be used to develop true randomized cryptographic keys."
I'd of thought between and third and a half would be a reasonable guesstimate, but you've also got to remember they aren't 100% efficient, so you have to add on some wattage to acccount for that...
There should be some device he could pick up at a local electornics store that could measure the amount of power the machine is using right?
An interesting interview with Virgin's Richard Branson on UK TV noted that Virgin Mobile aided European Police locate a suspect down to a part of a city in mainland Europe - that I say is a good use, but I understand why John Connor lived outside of the system:/
From what I have read it can play you MP3s and CDs via the box's front interface whilst the OS isn't booted, which I'd of thought your PC would have trouble doing...
I'm not sure of the value of that function, but I can think of student and family scenarios where that would be useful...
It has AGP and PCI slots, I'd of thought it could be added later?
I think people are over shooting who this is aimed at - I think the majority of it's sales will be OEM, to people who were buying a PC and for a bit more money get the cute 'lifestyle' features - the component people will buy different case/mobos which specifically hit their needs...
Can be found here (SFF standing for Small Form Factor).
They also have information on similiar machines and busy forums which have probably already answered the questions being thrown around here, plus some cool user mods and paint jobs...
If you ring up Microsoft's European Customer Support and ask for a replacement (even at a fee) for a damaged disk of a game they publish, you are told flately 'no' (in three different examples I know of).
Since then I haven't bought any of their games, and I'd also strongly argue the case for me to backup the ones I do.
1) Collect data on kid's music tastes. 2) Send letters to parents with check box mail order system, or maybe a list of local shops which sell the content. 3) Profit?
I read from one source (which could be completely unreliable) that Jobs and Co. had discussions with the banks to cut down their fee, in order to make the whole thing feasible..
They also clump together purchases made over a 48 hour period into one, larger purchase, cutting down further on bank fees...
To see the tech being used in the wild, check out the Neuros MP3 Player. It is good to see it in a positive context (helping to find songs to buy, not reimbursing for theft)...
Reviews I have read says it only accurately identifies tracks which you'd probably know anyway (Emenem etc, basically high chart stuff), but that it has the potential to grow and become an effective service...
There are probably lots of articles on the subject that can be bought up with a quick search, but my favourite broad explanation site has their definition here.

Depending on the type of copy protection used, it isn't a CD-DA, and shouldn't of been labled as such (if it was), which should entitle you to a refund, or a complaint to your country's trading standards perhaps?
As someone in the UK who occasionally has to phone information lines, as well as a most being either French or Indian, it normally sounds like a bad mobile connection - (I know VOIP can be nice but) does that suggest VOIP is taking off with bigger European companies under circumstances?

From a media perspective a few musician's I know of have considered vorbis output to grease up the distribution amongst geeks hungry for OSS music :)

Good point, and at one point Microsoft alledgedly wanted to buy mp3.com.
I still haven't worked out quite how that would have worked :)

Another benefit of ogg is that to a degree they are adaptive - during silence and voice the bitrate drops, adding additional savings...
The biggest name to recently add ogg to their armoury is Virgin Radio, which you can listen to here.
