No I don't, and I know plenty of musicians that don't feed themsevles of their family, many talented musicians. It'd be a great way for them to attract fans, copy left their music, distribute it in mp3 format, amass a cult-like following, go on tour and gain money from ticket revenue.
Use your own P2P network/app then. Any other application using the same protocol to connect to your network would be circumventing copyright restrictions, and a DMCA violation.
When I write code, it's for the GPL, my code is is my hobby, and maybe others will get use/enjoyment out of it. It'd be grand indeed if more music was copy-lefted.
What if the P2P hackers (coders) were to include a clause into the EULA about no profit organization can use the software, make it a license violation if the mpaa or the riaa use the software. I'm not saying it's a solution, however, it may buy some time. That or we can pay the kids at their isp to null route them into an intranet
yes, i may have been making a generalization, not everyone does it, however, you must admit that there are quite a few that do it, or there wouldn't be the worry about piracy, think about it for a second.
i sometimes use the cd burner at work for good, but today, i used it to copy a kenny g (my users have horrible taste in music!) cd for someone, i back some files up for people, but for school, i have my laptop, and vpn/offline files for remote use, as for making mix cds of cds i own, first off i'm not a fan of compilations, cds have a transient, wholly ambient feel that you need to listen to in order, and secondly, i own maybe 5 cds compared to my 7,000 mp3s
I agree. However, I'm also going to ask, do you have any illegal mp3s on your computer? Any at all? just one? Has anyone ever downloaded a copyrighted song you've ripped? Of my massive collection of mp3s, I know I don't have any rights to several.
I agree, however I notice the people who use this argument are the people who use the tools for dishonest ends, people who want to keep it to maintain their unfair use, soley because there maybe a fair use, somewhere...
an iPaq is a small form factor computer, as well as a handheld device. If you'd like, I can take a picture of one and email it to you, but they're the shittiest computers ever made

I always thought it was ironic that the dumbest users (no offence)
oh man, you're very retarded, no offense
All was not lost, however, we resorted to remotely controlling Schwern's laptop to play random songs in the Passat and there was nothing they could do about it.
I ssh'ed into my friends box acrossed the internet and did this, he got pretty pissed off
I don't agree with what they do, but I'll still buy their software. I sent them a letter expressing my disgust, but I did NOT make any announcement to slashdot, nor anyone else saying I would boycott them. Just because a person says it doesn't mean everyone on slashdot said it. I'll continue to email and post whenever a patch or an update comes out, but I never claimed I would boycott them, and I paid for War3.
tracking hackers is easy for the slashdot crowd

What a troll, no thank you. I'll gladly pay for good software. Yeah, Bnetd does upset me, but if i want to play with my friends in a lowlag enviroment, we either play on fsgs, or we lan, lan is much more fun anyways.

most of the stuff I program is for personal reasons, i get bored and i'll write my own code, i know what they mean... writing code at work is different, i don't have any respect for that code, they tell me what to do and i do it, make code like this, but add these features, debug this, you broke that, ect. with my own code i can excercise my creativty, and i truly enjoy it
I'm no lawyer, but I plan on going to law school after I finish my poly sci degree. Laws like the DMCA really irritate me, so I was wondering if there are any slashdot nerds who are also lawyers, people who could consolidate and help inform people of the troubles such laws cause for people trying to remain within his or her fair use rights. We don't need more laws, we need more enforcement.
have lots of problems. I've had 3 at work, they all have had the same scenario, they'll drop my mouse, perform actions I didn't do, quit working and until I power cycle it. I find VNC or RDP to be much easier, the only machines I connect to are servers, home and work. If I want to play a game, I'll use my high end workstation, but for all server tasks, It's all about VNC/RDP it has a lot less issues.
not to be racist or anything like that, there are lots of poor people any race, but i wouldn't want to wear tommy clothes whilst walking throughy the "ghetto"
Step one, find geeky friends within community.
Step two, convince them the T1 should be at your house.
Step three, setup equipment, use wireless repeaters ect, make sure that when you actually order the T1, that you get enough IP addresses to avoid NAT
Step four, assign your traffic as priority, with a maximum of 98% of the bandwidth, and claim you don't know what the problem is

That's very noble of you. I commend you. However you are in the minority of the mp3 community.

I've got a cd burner, and I don't remember a single time I've used it for good and not evil!

i've had about 6 motherboards fail so far, however they were under warranty still, i made a compaq tech come over and replace them
Oh man, you should have tried convincing him that ozzy is evil, and satan was trying to communicate with him
