There is no money in new customers for it but they can charge big bucks to the military and government agencies who don't have the choice to upgrade without an act of congress. They price is somewhat justified because it is less profitable to continue to support older technology with a small customer base.

They are however giving customers other options like running OS390 on Power5 Frames in a logical partition next to AIX and Linux. I have heard a rumor that soon you may be able to run MS OS's also. This frame (P5 595) just took the lead

Our country is mostly made up of people that share the same dream of freedom and prosperity for all. I am American Indian, Irish, and Dutch and my Wife is Korean. That makes our children all of the above. Immigration is good for our county as long as we don't take in too many criminals and not enough workers which the current policies seem to be slanting towards. I would like to see us close our borders and increase the number of legal immigrants coming into the US. Its just becoming a free for all that encourages dishonesty and law breaking.

I choose to sleep for the first three two hour breaks I had and ate a stale sandwitch on the third day. All the plants shutdown in the spring and fall because that is their low demand time so you fly from one plant to another and work a minimum 14 hour day for about three months. I believe that small business owners would benefit by hiring a Linux Guru to come in and set things up on a Linux platform. Then contract for time and materials the maintainence of the systems. This could mostly be done remotely using ssh or something like webmin. I'm not a small business owner but feel that this type of arrangement would be more cost effective than having a full time monkey maintaining windows servers. I work for a large school district in Colorado and watch very talented Microsoft Sysadmins somtimes struggle to keep their systems up. I even feel sorry for them when they have to do a suprise reinstall that takes them all night. Also if you consider the amount of time these folks spent last year alone fighting viruses I really do believe that running most businesses small or large on Windows is almost irresponsible. However it really depends on the size of your business and what you are running. Anyone running databases with critical business data would be nuts to run it on Windows or Linux without an absolutely full proof backup and recovery plan. I would never leave that up to BestBuy, CompUSA or even quite a few professional outfits we have hired to consult with this district.
