4) If there truly are two copies of the data, redbook and protected, not shared data, then the capacity will effectively be cut in half, meaning this approach could never be applied across the board to Sony's whole catalog since the average album is too long to fit twice on the same CD. Which raises two interesting questions - is the data duplicated or shared? And is the protected data uncompressed, or are you getting a lossy version?
I assume that the data for a computer is compressed in some way, but having two copies still reduces storage space.
He is stealing because he is ripping music that he doesn't own. You could say it's under fair use if he deletes the files as soon as he returns the CD, but he said he was going to keep them.
The article said that the program he was thinking of took 10MB of hard drive space and 8MB of RAM. Probably too much for most Palms (some newer ones have 16MB of memory), but using a flash card you would have plenty of space for it. A Dragonball processor at 33MHz could probably be enough to run the software (might be pushing it though).
What gives you the idea that only verified addresses are sold? Even non-existant addresses are sold. The link is an interesting story of a typo-email-address being sold (written by the postmaster of the ISP the e-mail address was from).
Obviously they'll blame on piracy, which is pretty much impossible without hacking into the server because account information is stored server-side because it's an online game (I assume).
I'd like to note that I didn't mod my GameCube. To your question: yes you could, when people realised that modding made their GameCubes overheat more often some people suggested thermal gel to reseal it, but it still won't be as good as new.
Yes, GameCube crashes. It has been reported to lock-up in only one place: Hoth on Star Wars: Rouge Leader. It has happened once on my GameCube when a friend was doing some weird manuvers into the ground. People who modded their GameCubes report more often crashes on that level (modding requires removing the thermal gel the seals the heat sink).
It's idiotic that you can't simply copy an installed application on Windows to another computer.
I'm pretty sure that is the purpose of the registry, at least that's how it is used: no copying folders makes pirating harder or at least more annoying.
I use Optimum Online from Cablevision and there's a very good reason for all that: Optimum Online isn't capped. At least mine and all my friend's cable modems have no cap upstream or downstream that's small enough to be noticeable (I've peaked on download speeds at over a megabyte).
To your offtopic rant: look at the output difference between a blank.rtf made in Word and one made in StarOffice (well, I have OpenOffice, but probably about the same). The Word one has a lot more information in it. The OpenOffice one leaves it out because, from what I'm guessing from the names of stuff, it's unneeded. I would assume that this is another one of MS's "standard" formats. Hmmm... maybe StarOffice/OpenOffice just needs to add "{\*\generator Microsoft Word 10.0.2627;}";).
I thought that too, until I wrote my own tetris-clone (Requires Java Runtime) and I still can't get a 1x4 when I need one and then get two or three in a row!
You may be able to find it on some abandonware site
I thought it would be another 10 years before I heard that about any programs that I own. I do own (read: paid for) Super Tetris, and it's a good Tetris game with some weird Tetris-variants.
Unless they're going by the Richard Nixon rule: if two wrongs don't make a right, try three.
It's three lefts that make a right, not three wrongs.

Don't buy ATI Radeons for duel-head! I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and the second monitor has a shadow on it, not unusable, but annoying. Matrox has duel-head that acutally works, but their latest duel-head card is getting a bit old.

He says on the page that he does his Lego work at night.
What's wrong with duct tape on glasses? It works great! :)

I think that was obvious. The idea of increased airport security is supposed to make the public feel safer, not to make the public safer.

Windows anti-alaises fonts, Mac (OS X) anti-alaises everything.
Wow, Debian Unstable is unstable, I never would have guessed!
I agree with you on no clients for all the different Unixes, but what exactly is the difference between Windows 9x/NT command line and DOS?

If it was Apple's PayPal donations everyone around here would be happy... or mad, it seems random around here.
Oh, wait, no one here reads Joy of Tech

You can go and download MSN 7. It will be easy to find I'm sure... just like NetScape 5. :)
