DUN is probably just as bloated, it just loads with Windows and can't be removed (like IE), so it seems fast and light.
Under Windows 9x you can remove Dial-Up Networking, but you need it installed for some LAN features including internet sharing (even if you are sharing cable/DSL). As far as I can see there's no option to remove DUP under Windows XP, but it might be hidden away somewhere.
In elementry school (I'm in jr. high now) one of the teachers ran a summer program on computerized and motorized legos. We would build legos with motors and lights and plug them into an Apple II GS (newer ones pluged into a PowerPC). The computer used the Logo language to control the legos. It was fun, esp. when we figured out how to make a text menu:). (I don't think graphics were supported).
NOOO!!! The random log-in generator doesn't work anymore, they block it now, even though it's running off of my server.:( I'll just use spamfree/spamfree then.
It's already done. The Proximatron (Windows only, but I'm sure that someone here could wirte a Linux one if there isn't already one) filters html. Set-up a rule to block the ad and it's gone. (I don't see ads on/. and nytimes.com articles auto-matically create random users:)
There's no good reason to require you to have windows looking at acting in four different ways on the same desktop! Redhat was trying to fix that. What you need is a window manager that can accept KDE and Gnome apps and make them look the same... wait that's what Redhat did. I'm sure that there will be a Gnome theme for Redhat's window manager very soon, so you can make it look like KDE or Gnome instead of both at the same time.
I use AIM 4.8.2790 with AIM+ 2.2.1. AIM+ is a program that hacks AIM to remove ads, add history, and allow multiple copies of AIM open at a time (called "cloning"). Tabbed IMing is planned in the next version. AIM+ is made by Big-O Software.
NOTE: AIM+ will not work with AIM 5.x, if you've already upgraded you will have to find an installer for AIM v4.8.2790 (the highest 4.x version).
I tried Trillian, but I didn't like it. One of my problems is I couldn't figure out how to disable docking to the side of my monitor. While it's a nice feature with it enabled I can't move it to my second monitor, which I use mainly for IMs.
One of my teachers would run a google search on parts people's papers to check if they did this, not perfect, but it at least makes the teacher feel better.
I never use the standard way to represent URLs, I think that just listing the URL is plenty, if it's not there anymore that's what archives like Google's are for... of course I feel bad for whoever has to type in a 200 character URL for each of 10 sources.
In the public school I go to the 8th grade teachers put the homework for the week online every monday. Unforunately, their idea of using the internet was an assignment "go to this page and answer these questions" I believe they called it a "web hunt". At the same school they just bought a $10,000 (closed-source, I think) program that keeps track of all students, grades, assignments, etc. I was thinking that if it was open-source (which it may be) it wouldn't be too hard to make a PHP page that would show a list of assignments for a given student... and with more work allow the student to hand in some of them (all students have a password already for keeping files on a NT server). Handing in assignments (in rtf or pdf or some other standard format with free viewers and creators) via the internet would certainly save paper. I already type eveything I can with my Visor + keyboard.
But, of course, as geeks /.er's speak archic [english] fluently from reading too many fantasy books?
Sorry, but it doesn't work downloaded anymore either. At least it doesn't work off of my server.
"Quaoar" is hard enough to pronounce by itself! You don't need to make it any harder!
On topic... I agree, it's English class, not l33t-sp34k class.
Ummm... real shorthand? I'll go do a google search on that...

You could require using the internet through a proxy server which adds a banner at the top of every page.

That would be soooo funny because they're main arguement is that they're processor is better than Intel's!
Just disable JavaScript, or run The Proxomitron (Windows only, I think).
There was an eariler article with a link to a great firewall tester. /. was blocked.
No, they block /., remember?
Isn't it already dead? Microsoft Office XP uses separate windows, which can get rather annoying on the amount of start bar space used.
May I please see the software hack Apple used to remove those options? They are always there as far as I have seen.
Also the other tabs take up the full space. Should the box resize when you switch tabs?
Odd, my dad was in China for bussiness and he uses Yahoo, but had no trouble accessing anything.
Did your typing teacher forget to point out the period?
