At 3hrs you have to wonder what ever happened to the tradition of intermissions.. My balder can't stand most 2+ hr epics.. I tend not to drink anything during those long movies
I hope your joking... Here in Canada they have an levy on CD-R media.. So now I have to pay an exta 20c+ a disk to the music industry every time I backupdate, save family photos, make a mix CD from my music collection that I alrealy paied for.
I have to agree, IBM is not going to help you with Jack, if you are using the custom packager this guy is talking about. And even if you have a problem with THERE (IBMs) hardware it could be a LONG turnaround time berfore they do anything for you.. It all depends on the type of service contract you have with them.. I once had a a server tape drive take a month and a half for IBM to replace, and a HD that took about a month.. I no-longer use IBM for HW.. That saying "No one ever got fired for buying IBM" should be retireds.. Alot of IBM has gone to the crapper.
This is what irks me. The web is supposed to be platform-neutral, not built for IE. Mozilla, IMHO is doing the right thing by not making its browser conform to the skewed standards IE has set. I say let those pages that are "built for IE" look like crap.
I think one of the main problems is that IE is the built in browser in almost every windows HTML development tool.. People just build pages, click preview and asume that is what the page will look like for everyone..
For mozilla to gain ground I think it needs to be integrated with popular development tools.. If it looks good in Mozilla and its to standard it should also look good in IE, making everyone happy.
I also think the reviewer has a good point about adds not working.. We may hate adds but they are becomming more and more a part of browsing.. and if every few pages your browser stops responding because an add is not compatible then no one who does alot of browsing is going to like the browser.
Its really up to the site to first make thier content to standard, and then to make sure thier add sponsors are doing the same.
If nobody ever gets (got?) fired for buying IBM, what does this mean?
Well after my IBM GPX 75 Deskstar HD failed after a few weeks of use, then took over a month to get repleaced I think twice about IBM hardware..
O and at work when our IBM tape backup drive died in under a year, then took a moth to get replace by another defective unit we decided to boycot IBM completly for future HW purchases.
Saying you product is Unbreakable is a big responsibility... I don't think people expect it to not have any problems but they do expect Immediate fixes to problems.
Yes for the in term I agree with you.. I thought the Honda Insight was a great step forward but it was only a 2 door and I beleave a 2 seater.. If they can bring a Civic to market with a resonable price and performance.. I think it will really catch on..
The main problem I see with Hybrids is maintenance. You basically have 2 engines and some sort of energy recovery systems for breaking.. I would not want to own any of these early Hybrids after the warranty was up.. Can you imagine the cost for parts and labor.. You can't take one of these things to Joe mechanic.
I am getting a little tired of these projects as well..
My question is WHY?? because you can??
Why not put more effort in to user interface design, usability or something to advance the platform instead of these gee whiz personal projects. What purpose does you web server hold (it can't support more than a few megs of content and a handfull of users)? If you where the one who ported thttpd then it would be new because you where making it more efficient and usefull.
I had a less than impressive conversation with A.L.I.C.E. It started out sounding pritty normal untill I tried to make abstract comments such as commenting on the A.L.I.C.E. logo.. from then on the AI tried to change the subject.;)
These systems usually work on trends and patterns that a normal human usualy doesn't see.. Its not that the software is going to say Michael is going to take a fall next game but it may find a pattern that saies someting like.. Michael has a X higher point average in games where he has had X number of days off.. or Michael jump shots are X percent poorer when he misses X number of practices..
This can be usefull information in the right hands..
I keep hearing about all this unused fiber here in canada.. Wonder how much money is being lost on it..
I don't think any of the companies here will go under, most of the fiber is owned by large divers telacom/cable companies here..
Well I nolonger use the Text messenging on my phone due to SPAM see http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=33349&cid=3602 181
BUT I at one time did use both a PDA and a phone.. I used the PDA for notes, phone numbers and the daytimer features.. but lugging around both a phone and a PDA is a pain if you have them both clipped to your belt..
So now I just use the Phone.. The daytimer features of an average Phone suck (and they usualy charge ALOT for the data cable and software if you want to sync it with your PC), so I would gladly have a PDA/Phone if it had a good form factor and full PDA features.. including a way to sync it with a PC.
That might be one solution, but I would still feel better with some sort of control device between them.. Even with 4 terminals who is to say that the spike would not carry through the battery.. Comercial UPS units are built to inturpt spikes or to self distruct in the event of a spike that is to large to dissapate.. I would still rather cook the UPS than my system.. Then again the retail ones offer to replace your equipment if they fail to stop a surge..
This is still a cool project but not someing I think anyone should trust there main system to.. I suppose your could put a RETAIL surge protected power bar in place between the inverter and the PC that would give you a resonable level of safety..
Looking at the picture I don't see any isolation. The charger and the inverter connect on the same contact on the battery.. So if there is a power spike on the charger is would pass directly to the inverter then possibly to your PC. Some sort of protector would need to be put between the battery and the inverter for there to be protection..
IMHO un attended shutdown is one of the best features of the higher end UPS systems.. It safely saves your work and turns the computer of in case of an extended outage.. also what kind of surge protection do you get from that getto unit? Remote battery status?
I use a UPS to protect my self from bad wiring and surges.. Hooking up to a settup like that would just be to unstable IMHO..
To each thier own, I guess
No it doesn't say anything like that.
But it does clearly tell you how much ink you are getting.
HP uses the same cart. housing for almost there entire line of black ink carts. They only differ by the amount of ink put in them, the code placed in the chip and the type of print head on them..
Yes it does suck that HP puts less ink in the carts for the Cheap printers and charges the same price.. but they don't hide that fact.. Its just a case of buyer be ware.
On a side note if you have send the 20 ml cart to a third party re filler they usually fill it with 40ml of ink..
Lesson.. Don't by cheap printers.. In the long run lasers are always FAR cheaper than ink jets for BW, and if you are going to go color, look past the sub $100 printers and start your search with the cart.
Buying the cheap printers is like buying a car thats bad on gas.. The info is there you just need to look for it.. both www.cnet.com and www.zdnet.com have done comparisons of ink jet printers and they will often tell you how they stack up for ink use.
Man maybe he could UNDO some of the changes in the Special Editions.
1. REALLY REALLY BAD CG Jabba the hut.. the one in E1 looked much better
2. Grebo should not look like he is shooting Han, there is reson enough to off him with out making him look like a bad shot.
3. Change all the Ewoks into little Wookies?
4. Improve the aim of the storm troupers who seem to get REALLY dumb in Empire and Return
What ever he does good or bad you know if it is a Star Wars movie it will make lots of money.
Eventually binary-only software is going to become more and more common in Linux
From a user stand point that should make things much easyer, but the core systems of all the differant Distros would need to be standardized in some way..
Or dependancy managment would have to be more automatic..
Even as a programmer I HATE having to compile packages when all I want to do is download and test an app.
At 3hrs you have to wonder what ever happened to the tradition of intermissions.. My balder can't stand most 2+ hr epics..

You could design your whole house, to scale, and then walk through it
It has already been tried with the unreal engine back in 1998.
Check out this site..

They are considering trying again with newer technology.
Canada looks good? What part of canada? We get paied less that the US IT sector and our money is worth less.
My question is why even bother with X-10 when you can get a cheap out door light timer with a light sensor?
I agree the price seems high.. It was the whole clustering thing that got me interested.
Hay if you want to compile KDE from source it could come in handy.
"I would think most Windows/*nix people would think of such endorsement as heresy. (-;"
As far as my productivity is concerned I prefer 2 or more button mice BUT the one button mouse does make things very simple for Joe user.

Better also lock the up channel up and down buttons so I don't flip the channels while thier add is on..

Movie site goes bankrupt from bandwidth charges as thousands of geeks try to stream Harry Potter for Free.
Have you ever seen crews repair fiber under good contitions on land?? I can't imagine working on fiber under water, in extrem conditions.
