    But, for the past 11 years or so, my name has ranked in the top ten according to SSA.gov. Personally, I preferred when it was rare and obscure.

    on the new Death Star, I found that trying to envision the "Big Picture" interfered with the specific requirements of my task. I needed control mechanisms smart enough to deal with Storm Trooper suits, regular Empire uniforms, robots with various temperature ranges, Wookies. It needed to be able to maintain a comfortable temperature range in the beam tunnel vicinity even during firing. And it needed to be efficient enough that they wouldn't shift power from the exhaust port shields to the jacuzzi heaters like they did on the old Death Star.

    Since they can't tell if you've actually installed/are using the software or not, they can claim that they won't take returns after the box has been opened. But since it requires opening/starting up on the computer to even read the license, the purchaser is screwed if they don't agree.

    With software on floppies, they were probably also concerned about viruses.

    Would posting it to a website be sufficient? That would require web access to read the license your buying prior to your buying it? That would be especially difficult to do if you are purchasing an OS to enable you to get web access in the first place.

    Since Microsoft is somewhere past the 2 billionth time, I'm disinclined to trust their good intentions. And while sending a client-specific style-sheet isn't damning, sending a faulty one to a competitor shortly after the release of their new product is.

    people are actually living their lives. But the continued existence of Evercrack et. al. would seem to support the interviewed individuals who complain that it is currently boring and repetitive. I'm sure they'll work on it and in three to six months it'll be Simscrack.

    It's annoying that it has to be said again and again and again: It was the DOCK OWNERS who locked out the workers. The workers did NOT go on strike and they didn't walk out. The owners pre-emptively locked them out.

    I'm not going to get into the other issues involved.
