Good point about AM, I don't think my TV tuner card can do that, but don't know. I have it collecting dust now. I used to for college dorms so I didn't have to lug around a TV in addition to a computer. About recepection. My card, a Hauppage WinTV Theater, has a coax connector for the an antenna (just a long cord) that came with it. So you could string it where ever.
Good, I just installed Mozilla on my FreeBSD box from work. It's a p233 with 96mb ram. The mail client better have spell checking. My girlfriend was complaining about kmail's lack of. Can't wait to get home and check it out. I've always preferred Opera on windoze though.
Maybe you could try getting a radio tuner card for your computer. I know most TV tuner cards have a radio tuner combo. With the right software I'm sure you could get it to record. Seems easier than to implement a homebrew PVR.
I know thats why I enjoy mocking at them. Some people will have a cow at the number 666. Well we just have to relize we still exist in a backwards society that believes myth to be real.
In my area (Knoxville, TN) I've seen some billboards for the new Beatles, that say "Speed Bump" on them. The car happens to be yellow. For the longest time I thought it was making fun of them. I found it it was an ad campaign for their new Turbo charged Beatles.
I have a feeling it's more along the lines of "Mommy and Daddy buy me whatever I want, whenever I want." These people really don't understand that money is hard to come by and does not grow on trees. Being 21 and living on my own is hard, some of my friends are living at home or are very supported by their parents. They won't ever truly grasp saving money and waiting till you need something to buy it until they are on their own.
I would have to disagree. This leaked copy may seem somewhat unethical to download, since the developers may not want to be in the publics hands yet. But as the previous post stated, this is really a pre-release to a freely downloadable demo that will be released soon. The people that are downloading this are the ones that have been drooling over the screen shots, and plan on pre-ordering as soon as it is possible. They will probably end up downloading the demo on top of that. I really see no harm done. Yes you got your warez kiddies that brag about having 1 Terabyte of Moviez, ISOz, Virii[sic], they download everything and anything.
Well I bought an Abit BE6 when the first came out. It's actually sort of a "hacked" board being the first to implement ATA Ultra66. I had a p3500 on it. Just replaced it recently for a faster comp. Mother is in perfect condition... although I am gonna take a closer look at those capacitors when I get home.
My new motherboard is an Abit KX7-333R. So far it is flawless.
In fact linux could possibly help to track down a hardware problem. Windows will usually just BSOD while linux will spit out a bunch of error messages. At work we had a computer that was struggling with WinNT on it. After we built a better machine to replace it. I put FreeBSD and found out it had bad RAM. I forgot the error message I was getting, but I wasn't able to get past the second bootdisk of the install.
Hah! When I put KDE on my FreeBSD machine, I went looking for some old mousepads. I found a Beavis and Butthead pad that I had completely forgotten about. It has a picture of a computer on a desk with with Beavis say "uh, why is there a typwriter connected to a TV?". And Beavis is stomping on the mouse.
You don't get it UNIX doesnt have GUI (Graphical User Interface) that's its strong point. Its the UI where it excells. I setup a freebsd box with sshd running within an hour. Go to work ssh into it and finish configuring, recompile the kernel, install software, etc.
But if you really want a GUI, you have the option to install it. Windows just doesn't have these capabilities.
Actually on my main system, I am running Win2k. I can't stand XP. I would love to go for a Linux or FreeBSD desktop. Only 1 thing stopping me, games. Otherwise all functionality can be duplicated, YMMV. Some people wouldn't use anything other than Photoshop. I have no problem with gimp as an alternative. Again this is for my needs. If WinXP works for you, there is nothing wrong with that, use it.
I'm not one of those people that say " is the only OS for anyone to use, even Grandma!"
Sorry if that's not clear. I never said it was the perfect OS. In fact it is far from perfect, but read the first sentence again. Closest to perfection.
In reply to better GUIs. Most Unices exceed in their lack of GUI. Nothing like a headless machine when you are limited on keyboards and monitors. If you need a GUI there is plenty of window managers out there.
For a dinky webserver, I am running FreeBSD. It's a p233mmx with 96MB of RAM. I just installed X/KDE so my girlfriend can check email and surf. It's a bit sluggish, maybe WindowMaker would be a good choice for it, but I wanted to make it perty. I can't imagine putting WinXP on there. Either way, Win9x/2k/XP, Linux, would not change its desktop speed.
Those distributions you named typically install i486 or i586 binarys. Pentiums are i586 so you are pretty safe. If you were to install on a 386 then you would be SOL. Some distrubtions may not have 486 builds, not sure about that though.

Haha, you know that crossed my mind actually. Then I though no 2 e's isn't right. I'm on 3 hrs of sleep give me a break ;)

Whoops this just got way off topic, sorry.

Kick ass!!! 666 Mhz! I need to build some kind of machine with that clock rate. x86, G3/G4, whatever, it will be for show and tell purposes.
Probably slower too.

It's an expression, no need to be a smart ass.
Just don't let the grown up highschool bully borrow your time machine and give a sports almanac to himself in the past.

I got all excited, went home and tried it. You know what, nothing sprayed out of my ears. Liar!
Bible pages make good rolling paper too!

Should read:

It's the closest you'll find to perfection.

That sig reminds me of Jack Handy's work. They quote him on SNL a lot. I have a few of his books. Makes a great quick read.
