I can see this as being a good thing. For one I don't think this will lead to some kind of tourist attraction adding a bunch of vehicles and pollution. This is Antarctica we're talking about, nothing to see. The south pole is home to my interesting scientific experiments, whether it be astronomy related since the view into space from there I would imagine to be much clearer of radio signals and terrestrial light. They mentioned studying neutrinos and what little I know of this area, terrestrial radio noise plays a factor.

It's not like they are going to be building a 6 lane highway. Probably won't be much than a gravel back road.

That doesn't mean I don't listen to other types of music or refuse any other type. I have a wide range of appreciation, I will give anything a chance... just can't stand to hear the samething over and over again. Metal typically presses the right buttons for me.

Same thing with books. A big Sci-Fi fan, but I've read plenty of other books through school or recomendation. I like most of the other genres, but Sci-Fi books are the ones that keep my thinking about it weeks, some years after reading, they just strike me.

First time I had WinXP on it *ducks*. The Windows dir was wiped, I then installed Win2k *ducks* on a different drive and ran chkdsk cleaning it mostly up but the windows dir never recovered. I then started using it to store downloaded files and it pooped out on my again. chkdsk cleared it up mostly with a few files lost. So it could be nearing it's end or NTFS suckieness showed itself.

I think the point of this one is a virtual utopia. Not mimick the real world in every way, just mimic some good points. Everybody here is saying you people need to get out more. I get out freqeuently but there are days every so often I want to be alone and play computer games in my my boxers, smoke some pot and drink a few beers. This is just another means. So what, no harm done. Yes if some one were to have this replace Real Life, then there is a problem. If you don't like it and only want to play FPS's fine, but every body's idea of fun is different.

I had always evnisioned for a 3d desktop. Sort of a room where on the walls you could have windows open. The closer you got the clearer they got. If the control was like a FPS, since I am very comfortable with them I would find it fun, maybe practical.

3Dtop for Windows tried this but, it was useless because your desktop was 3D, but when you opened a window it would just show a normal on top of it.

There is 3Dwm for X11, I would like to try though. I have no idea what that is like.

I always thought that a good way to do this is use an existing 3D engine instead of the difficulty of writing one. Say use the Quake3 engine and make a mod to interface with your desktop.
