Anyways, what I'm trying to point out is that it is actually becoming very convinient to build a super computer with lots of PCs that just lie idle. I am not sure if Saddam has heard about cheap linux systems. But what if he could build a super computer cluster?

An example to prove this is that while at a carrier fair I saw atleast 20 companies asking for COBOL experience. So this means all these companies are using those legacy mainframes.

Well the battery dies and guess what, he would be actually waiting for a call from an interviewer or whether his wife is in labor yet.

The next step would be obviously to stream movies... Well I've seen some models which can handle videos. Seriously, I cannot watch a movie on my 17'' monitor without complaining, how desperate can people can get to watch and play on the go. So far, wireless hasn't caught up like in Japan just becoz most people feel that this is quite unimportant.

I'd say better make those networks and services better so that atleast people can hear "old movies" and not "monkey with cold". Games and movies on cell phones might sound good but practically I find them waste of time and resources.

A major decision in any govt approach to a new idea or technology is primarily driven by costs. Hell, even new guns have to confirm to a set price by govt, only then govt will buy them in bulk. I don't know who moderated this comment but, what he pointed out is true!

Microsoft is possibley the most profitable company at this time. And remember Bill Gates was, atleast initially, more technically inclined. For a moment let us forget about his (questionable) marketing strategies and look at the company. He almost single handedly set up a software empire and that too without an MBA from Harward.

Now regarding the strategy used by Bill, let us analyze this - Bill Gates and John D. Rockefeller built their monopolies using more or less the same technique In the 1980s, Bill Gates got the computer manufacturers to pay him the price for Windows for each computer they manufacture, regardless of whose software is on it. In the 1870s, John D. Rockefeller got the railroads to pay him a rebate for every carload of oil they ship, regardless of whose oil it is. Same deal! How did they manage such deals? I don't want to draw allegations but maybe by bribing the officials of the other companies.

Anyways, according to me, it shouldn't matter who is running the company as long as we have some level headed people at the helm. People who do not get sucked in by heavy jargons and latter blame it on the technology. If the company expands and the owner is not able to control it, then by all means he/she should step down and let others take over. No point in building an empire and bringing it down just for vanity.
