Why was this modded redundant? Is the moderator implying that this has happened and that the slashdot community is already well aware and does not need another reminder? Goodness, I hope not!
I bought it over the internet, obviously, and they still added $80-odd to my bill for sales tax. If the ban wasn't over yet, how come sales tax applied to my purchase?
...and we found out last year that the school just throws the stuff in all the in-dorm recycling bins in the trash anyway. I guess I can't blame them so much, tho - everybody seems to throw their trash in the bins anyway. Of course, they could mark the bins a bit better, and could let folks know specifically what sorts of products can be recycled. Believe it or not, most people think that staples count as recyclable paper.
that music blips and skips A LOT when running on iTunes whenever you do ANYTHING else, even if it's just like opening Explorer or moving windows? When I tried it on my machine, it was very noticable, especially compared to Winamp 3, which hardly blips at all for me. My machine's no slouch, either - it's a P3 1.1 GHz with 512 MB RAM running XP Pro. I had like 3-4 programs open along with iTunes: a FTP client, Visual Studio.NET, and Mozilla, I think.
I was just wondering if anybody else had similar problems. I mean, the interface is great, but if I can't code in VS while listening to music, then it's not very worth it to me.
Dude, sorry, but if you're income situation is that desperate, you probably shouldn't be buying video games to begin with.
The manufacturer has a right to not provide you with a free copy to try as much as you like before you decide whether or not to buy. It's their product; they have that right. If you don't like it, the best statement you can make is to not buy the product.
I'm also a 20 year old college student. I don't pirate games, music, software, or movies. I only buy what I can reasonably disern is good (through reviews, etc.), and if I get burned, well, I don't cry about it. As long as their product meets what is guarenteed, I can't complain; I bought a game that I thought I would have liked, but didn't, and I should've done my homework. After all, it's not like they can guarentee that I'll like it.
whereas copyright infringers justify their behaviour by saying they wouldn't pay for the crappy movie/game/software/music anyhow
If it's not worth seeing/playing anyway, why do they download it?
What level of quality to do moves/games/music/software have to achieve for pirates to say, "Okay, they're good enough to buy now. We'll stop pirating"?
(This argument isn't against you, since apparently you don't believe that most pirates actually pirate for that reason.)
The number for the ATA is meant for those who have inquiries/ concerns regarding the ATA, right? It's not a personal phone number- it's a number that you call if you need to talk to the organization. Well, if I disagree with what that organization is doing, and I'd like to let them know about it, well, then I think I have a right to call.
Of course, it doesn't give me a right to flame them over the phone. In following with Christian principles I would politely state my beef and be done with it.
It is stinkin' ironic, though, that they're now complaining of being called too much.;-)
What exactly are our rights when we purchase a CD? Can I make unlimited backup copies of the media for personal use? Are the copies really allowed to be digital, or only analog? Am I allowed to be using the original and the backup at the same time?
This hypothetical situation has always bugged me: Say I purchase a CD, rip it to my hard drive, and then put it on my MP3 player. I take the MP3 player with me and listen to that music in the car, while (unbeknownst to me) my brother listens to the copy of the music on the computer. Are we breaking the law?
I'll give you that- installing on Gentoo is a cinch, but, after trying both, I'm going to half to say that installing Windows is slightly easier than installing than installing Gentoo...and about 10 hours shorter if you're going from stage 1.;-)

That's a good point -
Is anybody aware of which states have (or don't have) a Dell presence?
FYI, I'm in Ohio.

...do you think the government will work to thwart SCO's suit?
"Antelope-sized Windows PC to Debut"?
In the Windows desktop VM, uncheck "shared desktops" to change that.

Well, I've been able to code while listening to music on Winamp 3, so, yeah, I do mean that. :-)
If I'm not compiling anything (and even if I am), I think its reasonable to expect that I should be able to run other programs in the background.
hmmm...good suggestion, which leads me to another problem: When I tried opening any of the submenus in the msinfo32 program, I got this message:
Can't collect information
Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.
I've never used msinfo32 before, so I don't really know what I could have messed up. At any rate, I guess I'll search the MS knowledge base...

Log onto the wireless network and search the web for competitors' prices?
'nuff said.
welcome our new multi-core processing overlords.
I, for one, welcome our new candle-trucking overlords.
If the people who are complaining had brain one in their heads
I know! I'm still running Brain 0.8 beta! So sue me!

The "Dell Pentium 233" was a solid *hard drive*, as I recall. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
well, then, what do you think folks with deep, unwavering beliefs are missing?
just learn to speak in Al-Bhed.
