As a technical Project Manager, during the mid seventies, I developed and delivered to the field, a network of over 100 Datapoints from the 1100 up to and including 5500 for Johns-Manville just prior to it's bankruptcy.

Datapoints had a fully programmable Macro data entry language. Databus a 3GL language This language was used by Johns-Manville to implement a fully programmed Order Entry system in the Datapoint.

The system would then by the use of croned scripting language transmit the Data Entry file to the Corporate Host over night for entry into the Billing system.

In addition they were also capable of emulating TTYs and BiSync 2780, 3780 and JES Bisync workstations, The system was delivered with an Assembler and Basic languages.

Datapoints ranged from 1100, which had floppy drives to the 5500 which had a 2311 DASD All of this was controlled with a DOS (Disk Operating System) including ARCnet for local area networking.

We developed scripts which were croned to push updates to the system code and applications on each Datapoint in the field as required.
