The 49.7 days refers to stuff that is not based on Windows NT. IE Nothing to do with the system deployed that was Windows 2000. Second, the versions of Windows that are built this way do not require rebooting at this period, an internal timer turns over and the system continues on as normal. The programmer who designed the system for the FAA msut not have RTFM or designed it very poorly to require this.

Doom 3 for Linux Released

The earlier article on/. about the Linux 3D performance tests show that you are incorrect. They do, however, show that 3D gaming is nowhere near unbearable in Linux.
hahahaha, no... In StarCraft it was all about building as many units as you can and sending them to attack. No real need to control them individually, you used them in groups.
WarCraft is about controlling units individually. That's part of the challenge, but not everyone likes it.
There is another problem that arises when there is no secrecy. That problem is that everybody else knows your every move and everything you are doing. It's the same problem with people in gangs and stuff who give information for better treatment. As soon as the people who you gave info about find out you have to go into hiding. I don't know about you, but it's pretty hard to hide a whole country. Or imagine someone from another country gives us information, we would be unable to guarantee their safety. This makes it less likely that we would get that information in the first place. As usual, the problem with Slashdot and politics is that people try to simplify the problems without keeping all the important issues in mind.
The amount of noise a computer makes is not as directly related to the gHz meter you use. I recently went from 1gHz to 3.2 and my system got quieter along the way. The default fan that came with the CPU was broken or something. It made terrible noise. So I buckled up and payed for a better one. Zalman Copper something or other. Extremely quiet and seems like it maybe cools better.
The point is I don't want to have Real Player on my system as it is harmfull. WMP doesn't give you pop-ups or sit in the background trying to crash your computer.
You only have to pay that fee if you want to sell your game. You can freely mod the game and distribute the mod. What you don't get if you go this route is the bulk of the documentation. There are some resources online and access to the game script source is free too.
Not only is there 8.0/8.1 compatability, but you can use versions as early as 3. I see alot of people complaining that they change the API but it's not really that big of a deal. You can stick with the older version if you want. The change from 8.0/8.1 to 9.0 was not even very big API wise. You just need to change a couple calls and your done. (For ex you call SetFVF instead of SetVertexShader for fixed function pipeline)

OpenGL 2.0 Released

I you think that's all there to DirectX then you are horribly mistaken. There is also the debugging support, the easy to use tutorials and samples, as well as the integrated help. You mention Allegro, but you probably don't realise that Allegro uses DirectX for some things.
Also, your statement about more and more companies using OpenGL is false. More and more companies are using DirectX right now, even if you include all the Quake engine games.
Musical artists are a bit different. Because of the horrible contracts with CD distribution, they make very little money that way. They can, however, make a boatload of cash through concerts. This is why you see bands like The Smashing Pumpkins giving away their music.
Now let's apply this to software. There is no equivilent to having a concert, but they make a good deal of money on the distribution. So when you circumvent the distribution method, they are left with no way to fund their projects.
XBox & PS2 games have been doing 5.1 and using sound creatively for a while now. This is yet another example of slashdot reporting old news. The only reason you didn't see it as much on PC is because there were too many different API's and cards to cater to. So using "2D" sound meant everyone had an experience that was similar. Nowadays you see Dolby Digital and sometimes THX on games.
Way to troll doofus.

Too bad question 1 doesn't even apply.
msconfig
Any list reading help desk will tell you about it.

According to MS, if you are licensed Office at work, you are licensed office at home... It's per user and not per machine.

Eh..... I dunno, Ogg still requires more CPU. Haven't seen anyone use the Integer decoder yet, tho.

You should write me a high end codec that's better than MP3 and give me the specs for free.
ZORBALAT0R, it be the Ghaleon.
I also hate the touch scroll. I noticed that they die out in the store models too. I tried to use one, but it continuously scrolled downward.

DX allows you to have brain, skull, and intenstines.
What do you mean by "It's equally wrong that an IP creator should be rewarded too many times for the one piece of work, for exactly the same reasons."
It just doesn't make sense to me o_O

I guess people like him help companies like Acclaim.... oh wait, they're bankrupt.
Those fscking buttons and wires..... argh!!!!!111~
Hehe, j/k.
It can but you basically lose one of the vector units. So if your game is very simple it can have 5.1

Write once, fix code three times, debug three times. That is the cross platform way.

Seeing these makes it the worst Apple design ever in my opinion.
