however DirecTV is sending HDTV in HDLite format - i.e. 1280x1080i instead of the full 1920x1080i. This is somewhat understandable with limited bandwidth, but it is not good enough for me (a 8+ year DirecTV customer). I will not subscribe to new DTV services at this time. My service is still on mpeg-2 system with 2 DirecTivo and account with lifetime service. I am itching to jump the boat for better services. DirecTivo's lifetime services are the only thing keeping me in the boat.
the apple changes you mention took years and it were reasonable changes. 10.0 was infant so changes were expected. 10.1 had bugs so changes were expected. 10.2 was infant with bug fixes, however some apps for 10.2 worked fine in 10.3. The post before your said no changes since 10.3 not 10.0.
6 years for windows - what major new features have you seen in Windows ? security fixes do not count. If you were working for Vista/Net, you probably would going through "months" of changes too.
Instead of swearing at the language, try to find a better source of tutorial on the language. Apple has some good ones on their developer site.
When i first learned about Objective-C, I had some trouble grasping the idea too but it turned out that I was getting confused due to now knowing enough about the languagee and not taking time to learn the new terms.
The [ and ] means message passing is being done. Note, that is "message passing" not "calling function" You need to change your thinking and world when working in objective-c.
[newImage initWithContentsOfFile:filename];
Here, we are doing a message passing using the newImage variable. The message is called "initWithContentsOfFile (it is sorta like function name but think of it as message). The first parameter is filename. The name of message labels this first parameter.
Another example (fake code):
[MyClass MyClassWithData:"hello" length:5];
MyClass, in this case, is a class rather than a variable. You can also pass messages to classes. In C++ world, it is similar to static member functions. The message being passed is called 'MyClasWithData" and its first parameter is "hello". The 2nd parameter is 5 which is labeled length.
The objective-c world is a wondrous place to work once you get hang of it. There are several things that are much harder to do in C or some other language, such as creating a proxy class that can take _any_ messages even if you did not define one.
Hope this inspires you to go back and try to learn objective-c again.
how about creating 2 separate pages in the wikipedia, one for autobiography and one for biography. The autobiography page would be edited only by that person the page is about (or by those authorized by the said person). The biography would be collaborated by others.
That involves you going to get something, trespassing on your neighbour's property at the same time. Wireless is sent to you, in your house. Not the same at all. It would be closer to you being allowed to sit at your window and smell your neighbour's cooking to your heart's content. The smell is being "broadcast" (wirelessly, I might add!) to your house. You can do what you want with it.
And hopping onto your neighbor's wireless base is not trespassing ? If your neighbor is broadcasting and you can hear the packets, go ahead and listen to it. Hopefully your neighbor is smart enough to use encryption somewhere such as HTTPS, WEP, SSH, etc to prevent you from knowing what is being said. However, logging onto someone's open base, is trespassing too since you are "physically" logging onto their hardware.

the pita bread you are cooking, i can smell it all the way over at my home... by your logic, i guess i can just head over and eat your pita bread when you leave it at window sill for cooling ?
i can smell you smoking out in my back yard.. i guess i'll come over and take away some of your cigs to smoke
light strays from your living room is entering mine.. i guess i'll read my newspaper in your living room
you are watering your grass and it is leaking into my yard.. i guess i'll use your hose to water my grass
wouldn't it be better to carefully examine the certificate, verifying that it is really valid and making sure the issuer (and all of the certificates in between if any) are trustworthy. After determining that the certificate is trustable, then check 'Always trust this provider' ?
My reasoning for this is if you do trust the certificate, and you always click 'yes' each time without doing the 'always'. Some day, a website might spoof the real website, using its own carefully crafted certificate that LOOKS similar to the original (real) certificate that you have been manually trusting. Oops! You just clicked 'yes' to the fake certificate. Had the 'always' been turned on, the app would have noticed the difference and presented the "trust this?" ?
what about in the long term ?
1) Spend less by doing offshore
2) Fewer workers here in us
3) fewer customers who can buy the product because they can't find jobs
4) LOSS! the company can't generate revenues anymore
in Arizona.. It has been awhile since i read about that.. Obviously you cant pull over right away if it is not possible, but you should do as soon as you can. I think its about 5 cars behind you when you have to pull over. Maybe its because of mountain terrains around here. In fact, on many road around there, they are no-pass zones anyways so that law makes sense for that.
> While that's all nice and good, situations can change. What happens if > the driver of the vehicle you're passing is an asshole and speeds up? No
Good example -- in that case, I would slow down.. The car speeding up would certainly create a new space behind for you to take up ? If that idiot driver decides to speed up or slow down to play with you, then you just pull over on other side of the road if necessary.
Clearly this is not a solution-for-all, just some suggestions. The driving law makes it easy to determine who is at fault. Basically if you can avoid an accident, then you should(are required?) do so. Now, there will be always be idiot drivers out there so it does not matter what laws, what safety devices we have, or how good drivers we are, they will always have effect, and causing troubles for us.
> When you are driving to work in the morning and you woke up 10 > minutes too late safety is remaining calm and ignoring your mad > boss.
where do you live ? i want to make sure i do not live close to you! I don't care if you are late for work, you don't speed for that reason, that's stupid. "Sorry I disabled/injuried/killed your kid, but i was late for a meeting and my boss would have chewed me up."
> When your kid falls out of a tree and fractures his left arm safety is > driving double the speed limit to ensure the livelyhood of your child.
Fracture probably is not quite life threatening, but for a life threatening situation, then yes please do hurry to the nearest hospital. The speeding comment i made earlier was for driving behind a slower car, entirely different situation!
Driving is a privilege shared among all of us, drive smart and safely.
1) If cars are piled up behind a slow car, I think that frontmost car (the slowest one) is required by law to pull over if there is certain # of cars behind it. So no passing needed if so
2) If you need to speed up to pass - you shouldn't be going over the speed limit that much. If you do, you do not need to pass. Pass only if slowest car is going way below the speed limit.
i'll add one more:
3) Don't pass unless it is absolutely safe to do so.. It is not worth it to rush.. just take your time, enjoy the drive and save some lives.
did you read articles of urls you posted in your own message ?
at $150m investment it said Apple, which ended its third quarter with $1.2 billion in cash, will use the additional $150 million to invest in its core markets of education and creative content, Anderson said. He added that the company expects to gain a higher percentage of its revenues from software and services in these core markets in the future and also Davis also said that given the size of Microsoft, a $150 million commitment amounts to little more than good public relations.
that does not make sense at all.. if OSX/x86 ever became reality, it is most likely to be a pointy-clicky to build the x86 and append it to the existing Photoshop binary making it a fat binary. There should be NO work involved in changing the source - only rebuilding.
And split 30% profit ? No, they would ADD to that profit.
I have been bugging verisign about their Term Of Use allowing me to "opt-out'.. They finally replied just now, here is portion of it:
I am writing to update you on VeriSigns Site Finder service. On Friday,
October 3rd, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
(ICANN) directed VeriSign, Inc., to temporarily suspend service no later
than 6PM PST, Saturday, October 4. VeriSign requested an extension from
ICANN for 3 additional days for the shut down in order to provide the
technical community time to make any necessary system changes.
Unfortunately, ICANN refused this request. Accordingly, in response to
this demand, VeriSign is temporarily suspending the Site Finder service
as of Saturday, October 4 at 6PM PST.
Note the bold.. UMMMMMM I don't remember them giving us time to adjust to their SiteFinder!
better hope you'll never become deaf someday
