    gotta admit that was a rare sight. Usually I can spot the trolls a mile away and the occasional crapflood is still going on.... but anything posted after the troll post is as good as wasted IMHO... I just chalk it up to another slow news day

    This is cool, I used to dream of widespread education back in the day. And now people are finding ways to do it, cheaply and en masse. This will be better for everyone eventually.

  15. *shrug* I take comfort in the fact that slashdot is still doing this. Mainly its been awhile since I saw anyone get excited over a Beowulf cluster of 386's. But on a more serious note, I think that even if this tech isn't directly viable, at least stimulating conversation about it will eventually lead to a solution. Like Natalie Portman, naked and petrified in hot grits.

    Mmmmm, nice! I had a similar experience way back in the day (around 1999) a guy in my LUG had some DEC Alpha stations to unload from his job.... I was all over that, getting Redhat on them, networking etc. School was slow and dull by comparison.
