  1. Hate to ask a tech support question on Microsoft to Allow PC Makers to Downgrade to XP · · Score: 1

but I was at home visiting my peoples last month, and I scanned a class reunion photo at a high DPI for archiving. Windows Vista Home (new Dell desktop). The file was 300MB. I stuck a blank CD in the drive, some software popped up, I dragged the file over, and it burned the file to the CD. Well, actually, it kinda hung. So I rebooted and tried again. Same result. Had to catch my flight, so I got back and tried the CDs in my computer. Coasters. Is there some clever way to burn data CDs in Vista? I hope DRM controls weren't the problem.

I would personally offer service without a contract to anyone willing to pay $1,000,000/month. That's not the point. The point is that for a person who uses their phone semi-regularly, the cost of a non-contract service is much higher than contract service, which is way overpriced anyway. The current prices are not what people are willing to pay, but HAVE to pay. This is not a free market. Consider the effect Google's info number 1-800-GOOG-411 (or text info: "GOOGL") have on the $2 usually charged for calling information on a ell phone.

I've used prepaid for a few years, and a regular contract for the prior three years. I'm back to a paid plan now with Cingular. It's overpriced at $51/month ($39.99 plan plus taxes), and has by far the worst reception in all parts of the USA where I've traveled, but the rollover minutes are compelling, especially for someone like myself who doesn't live on the phone, and my mother and gf both are on Cingular, so I talk to them for free. Prepaid is good too, if you don't live on the phone, but people do get annoyed when I refuse to add minutes and the phone is off (didn't mind it that much, really, but I had to get a regular line for other reasons).

So, what is the problem with a blackboard? Be precise.

The chalk is all over my hands when I finish, which sucks (latex gloves suck took). Erasing the board wastes minutes every day. Sometimes I inhale chalk and sneeze. Once I slammed my finger with a sliding blackboard, and blood was gushing from my thumb, so I had to waste time running to the bathroom. Some of the students complain when I don't erase the board completely clean. etc...

Couldn't you advertise your book using StumbleUpon, or something like it? I am considering doing the same for a technical book I'm planning to write with a friend. Also, some book publishers give away free chapters of novels on college campuses. In my experience the hardcore math/science nerds at Ivy League schools devour scifi books like pizza. Good luck!

Does that make any rational sense? It doesn't to me, yet there appear to be many people out there who still think that SCOX has value.

Actually, for those who bought at $0.44/share, their investment is worth $0.68/share now-- a 54.5% increase in value, in about a week. There are lots of investors who buy when they think the stock is at its lowest possible value (short term or long term). Yes, they're taking a risk, but whether they think SCOX "has value" is irrelevant. I think history tells us that SCO always does a stunt to raise its stock price after a crisis, so some people might think you're foolish not to invest in SCO at $0.44.

Obviously their office suite will include that curiously often withheld feature, export to PDF.

It isn't necessarily true that germs resistant to the bactericide are more resistant to the human immune system, but the opposite seems highly unlikely.
