  1. Where do I get a 100mb Ipod? on Beware the iPod 'slurping' Employee · · Score: 2, Funny

I can use more disk space so I can watch Ashlee Simpson videos while I slurp data off the corporate network.

  2. Can I get this in English? on Quantum Telecloning Demonstrated? · · Score: 4, Funny

Most of the time, I at least read TFA and make a dumb comment. This time, I read TFA and just felt dumb.

Can some explain it and use real-world examples?

  3. FTC is so wrong on this.... on Advertisers May Face Ridicule For Adware · · Score: 1

...do you really think that a company that advertises through adware could be embarassed? They'll count all the impressions the FTC provides through their "embarassment campaign" as free advertising.

  4. This is an interesting question on How Much Do You Value Your Office Space? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Sadly, there is no one room I spend more time in than my office. I spend about 35% of my LIFE in that room.

Since I am alone in it, I have spent a couple thousand dollars in additional furnishing in it ( Lamps, artwork, stereo, TV, various knick-knacks ). I figure if I spend the time, I should make the investment to make it a comfortable room I want to be in.

I'd be hard pressed to give it up for more salary. Would I sell it for a cube? Sure -- but then I'd look for a new job.

  5. Faster than dial-up? Oh no it's not. on BitTorrent and End to End Encryption · · Score: 1

Torrent on the Rogers network averages about 3KB/s for me. I could get a dial up connection running far faster than that.

  6. Fired for dissent at a law firm? Well, duh! on Fired from an IP Law Firm for Anti-DRM Views? · · Score: 1

Stop being naive. A law firm wants little robots that bill endlessly and don't question the status quo. A better lawyer would recognize this and either tow the line or move on. I'm not saying anything about being right or wrong, just be smarter about your career.

We need a new furnace for the house, but this beast will easily keep my house ( located in the nether regions of Canada ) warm all winter. I am only disappointed that this rig will cost about the same as a new furnace.

  14. Re:Dumbest. Idea. Ever. on Opera Purchase Rumour Control · · Score: 1

    Read it again.

I didn't say 'buy', I said 'use'. Netscape bases their browser off of Moz, I am saying Microsoft could do the same.

  15. Dumbest. Idea. Ever. on Opera Purchase Rumour Control · · Score: 4, Interesting

If MS needs a new browser, which they don't, it would be FAR more strategic to use Firefox, a la Netscape. Even though they would not own the browser, and they would be returning some features back to the public, they could use new Firefox features to drive sales of their server based products.

There is no money in browsers (just ask Opera), but lots to be made in selling server software.

  16. Bets on the over/under for replies to this thread? on Federal Judge Rules Against Intelligent Design · · Score: 0, Redundant

  17. Support macroing like Asheron's Call? on D&D Online Stress Beta Begins · · Score: 1

IIRC, Turbine has been the only vendor to support/ignore player based 3rd party applications. Many, many AC 'players' max out characters by pressing the 'Start' button and then come back 5 days later to see how their character is doing.

If DDO supports macroing ( like Decal ), then this game is screwed.

Note to Turbine: For the love of God, please hire some QA people to check updates before you launch them.

Search engines have been in common use for almost 15 years now. How much of a 'longer term' do you need?

Besides, Search Engines only point to content. Publishers should enhance their content with proper use f metadata to drive traffic to sites with grrat content people WILL pay for.

In the meantime, it's all just sour grapes.

They just don't put the effort into their naming schemes like they used to.

  22. Full credit for trying something different... on Barenaked USB Drive · · Score: 5, Insightful

Barenaked has always been a great band that does things a little different.

In this case the sum of the parts is greater than the items. Sure the music can be delivered cheaper and a memory stick is cheap. But the willingness to try something a little bit different just to see what happens is worth some applause.

By the way, these guys produce good music. They are worthy of support.
