Why rats? we should celebrate it as among the greatest discoveries if we can even confirm something as primitive as a worm. Evolutionarily, the jump from inorganic to a worm is far bigger jump than from a worm to (even an intelligent) man.
Jack Gorrie
The University of Toronto mourns the recent passing of Jack Gorrie, the university Provost's Adviser on Information Technology, and more recently, a member of ORANOs Board of Directors. Gorrie, 55, passed away on Aug. 30 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. This is a major loss to ORANO and our university community, said ORANOs Board Chair, Dr. Ross Paul, President of the University of Windsor. His years of experience brought an important perspective to our work at ORANO. He will be missed, he said. An obituary notice was published in the Globe and Mail. The University of Toronto also issued an announcement.
I still remember the shock when I found my desktop running nonstop for more than 3 weeks in 1998 when I loaded it with Slackware! This is when I was booting Win95 atleast once a day (on the same machine) for "stability" problems. So, yes, Linux has been a great desktop OS for atleast 11 years.
Another one here. After finding cable signals are worse than OTA, I downgraded cable package (I get discounted rate for bundling with Internet service any way). OTA digital has many interesting channels not on cable.
A square meter of earth's surface (at least in the tropics) probably gets more than 800W of power wirelessly, at least during summer daytime, entirely free of cost. The problems have been in building efficient and cheap receivers.
A lot of advice on radio propagation is location dependent. Propagation is vastly different between plains and hilly areas. This matters more than the type of antenna/mount.
"...injury is deliberately and gradually inflicted upon a person usually for gaining attention or some other benefit."
He might have wanted his research to be better recognized and useful.

Per http://www.takeoka-m.co.jp/reva/reve.html
and the name of the Indian company is "Reva India", it appears, Reva India is a joint venture with Takeoka of Japan. They would not be calling it Reva India, unless it had some subsidiary relationship with a foreign company.
If they have found some ingenious way to separate out D2O from H2O (using some hitherto unknown membrane process ) and run Cold Fusion on D2O, it would be a Nobel prize class invention.
With my current knowledge of science, I don't know why that should be impossible.
Considering all the difficulties in a shake & bake, a set of microphotographs at different magnifications, say 10X to 100X would have revealed more about the composition. Given a choice between seeing something and reading a chemical analysis to understand unknown matter, what would you prefer?
1. He has greatly reduced U.S. role as a global hegemon. Now on, it will be a multipolar world. No more railroading through UNSC etc., Good for world peace.
2. (Indirectly) Greatly increased petroleum prices. This will promote conservation and reduction in emissions strictly by market forces without the need for Kyoto or Al Gore.
3. He has greatly weakened U.S. military; there won't be an aggressive war for another generation.
4. He has helped to enhance the credit crisis that was created by sub-prime lending by making the federal government impotent to help (due to large budget deficits and national debt). This will tip over the point of living extravagantly by borrowing.
5. The monopoly of U.S. $ for international reserve seems to be breaking. This is good for U.S. and the world. This will keep us honest in terms of production & consumption and fairer to others.
etc., etc.,
Kucinich is an idiot; He hurts the Democrats chances in 2008 elections. Having Bush around is the most powerful electoral advantage that Democrats have. Trying to get rid of him is such a distraction. What will Obama do for his "Bush-McCain policies" sloganeering?
Bush may be bad for U.S. But he has done a lot of good to rest of the world unknowingly.
If so, why does Apple not sell iPhones in Europe first? I think iPhone is more expensive than Wii Fit. The more probable reason is they have limited quantities now and want to match their inventory with size of market to prevent disappointment and frustration.
One thing that has puzzled me is why aren't more companies just copying OLPC design, may be enhance the processor, memory etc., and sell for say, $200-$300. I don't think OLPC foundation will say no to sell or share their design. Not that their design is some top secret anyway.
Why not build more casinos in Palm Springs area for a fraction of the cost of building a MagLev to LV? The MagLev will cost, may be, $100B. You can easily build enough casinos for far less.
At $45M per year funding, this will take forever to finish. With current credit rating of CA and bond market conditions, they can't even get it off the ground.
I am not seeing the pernicious effects of Intel's "anti-competitive" behavior looking at Dell prices. J6P can buy an essentially Supercomputer class machine in the $300+ range. If I remember correctly, in a monopoly, price increases (as in gas prices ?). Why waste government resources on a product that an average person spends a couple of days wages anyway. If they really want some work, they can target Big Oil, because that IS going to cause a severe recession!
Try UHF(ISM band 903-928 MHz) RFID Readers; they have better range than HF readers (13 MHz). Intel sells a single chip (R1000) demo kit you can take and hack.
You may have difficulty with large metallic objects due to reflection. Also, stuff with high water (H2O) content may absorb too much power to reflect back.
With UHF, you may expect 5+ meters (20 feet) under ideal condition. The tags may be expensive in small quantity. Try to "borrow" from a larger lot. Obviously, you have to get UHF tags for UHF readers; I am not aware of multimode readers/tags.
I put Ubuntu on P3 laptops with WIFI cards and keep them in different rooms in the house to create "information at your fingertips" environment. They usually have google start page by default. So just type whatever question* you want answered, it gives you that. Best approximation to Omniscience that can ever be.
e.g. maps, phone directory, calculator...
Alternately, you can donate this configuration (plus openoffice) to a needy student who can use it quite well.
You type an address, they mail you a stack of CDs - High quality OS, Applications, web based updates - And THEY PAY FOR SHIPPING. Not a single Virus, malware, trojan etc., How much more FREE can anything get?

We need this to succeed to prevent more wars in the middle east. Just the cost of one Iraq war will pay for this many times over.

Andy Grove, Bill Gates, Irwin Jacobs, Steve Jobs (if healthy enough) would also be good choices.

They have been there from the days of "Halting problem" (of Turing machines - before electronic computers were invented)

I thought Itanium is the ingradient for High Performance Computing.
Enough of Anti-virals, Spyware removers etc.,
