Fantastic, so glad you're so trusting, and naive.
Here's something to bring you back into the real world.
1. She dies. All those nice little privacy concerns you have are suddenly a huge block to settle the estate, especially online banking, mortgages, etc. Sure hope that you also enjoy answering awkward mails and calls over the next couple of years of those casual acquaintances and distant relatives asking where she is.
2. She cheats on you and decides to elope with her new lover. Joint account frozen and/or emptied out. You had an inkling something was wrong, but the sacred privacy worked against you, shes cleaned you out, and the house is way more than half empty.
Think it can't happen?
Put it like this - those of us who are mature and honest with our spouses give our passwords or share passwords and are completely open and transparent. What do you have that is so precious and astounding that your partner shouldn't be able to see if they ask? Grow up.
Good one.
If Apple cant even follow basic MS guidelines for gui coding, why the hell do you think they would for kernel level drivers?
If Apple want to use a phrase like "it just works", then surely it should apply to *ALL* their products?
Couldn't agree more. Working for a bloated corporation which comes up with new ideas and applications constantly has caused a huge polarisation in abilities.
The old school IT people such as myself and my team embrace the whole of IT, and cover whole vendor suites of applications/OSs and core infrastructure, while the opposite end has to do one small part of a tiny web based application.
Anything I cover breaks, thousands demand answers. Opposite end, couldn't care less for months.
I guarantee that the IT engineer is paid more though.
Worse part is that if is broken long enough or is a baby of someone senior enough, we still have to learn, diagnose and even fix it for them anyway.
I'm p*ssed at MS with the recent products they've released, but even I can't stand the smugness oozing out of that comment.
Obviously, the spell checker doesn't "just work."
Apple doesn't have to worry about 1000's of different system components - you have to buy into their overpriced crap.
I'd also go with just simpler, as I find that people who use Apple tend to view the computer as appliances. Congrats to Apple for getting people to buy into shoddy mp3 players, phones that lack features of devices 3 or 4 years old, and overpriced laptops - the sheeple really bought into that marketing.
Pot and kettle syndrome with the IT management section. For someone who really is trying to dispel myth and rumour, they certainly like to generate it for other products.
The comment about blackberry - why would Apple add revocation and other large scale enterprise features to a phone thats targetted at a personal user audience?
"Installation of iTunes, which users can manage themselves." - irrelevant, most enterprises will not allow iTunes, having to back up relevant business data takes precedence, along with patch management.
Being biased supporting a very large scale MS exchange enterprise, i fully disagree with the completely innaccurate:
"Windows Mobile similarly requires ActiveSync to be running, and is a huge headache to support when synching with Exchange. Windows Mobile phones fall out of sync with Exchange regularly, forcing a full deletion of the user's calendar and email and a resync."
No, wrong on both counts.
Activesync is not mandatory to use a WM device as a phone and pda, and not everyone uses their mobile to its fullest extent like we geeks do.
We have Blackberry and WM devices - roughly equal in the numbers we have deployed. Believe me, if WM devices fell out of sync "regularly", we'd drop it and go completely blackberry.
WM2003 may have done this, but aren't we supposed to be comparing like for like technology? WM5 and 6 don't do this "regularly"
Apple's marketing is supposed to be biased, but we should be comparing on price and latest technology here.
An equivalent notebook (albeit heavier) would be a Sony GRX 6xx series. Same price from Sony's website, and virtually identical match (size wise) in hardware (albeit with a larger screen, and weighs heavier) - but with a 2gig P4.
I'm sure the photoshop test results wouldn't sound so good then, eh?
(can't really comment on the processor efficiency, battery life and weight - being stuck with a legacy architecture sucks sometimes:))
"For one, MS' native solutions aren't very good, and I haven't seen any client-side programs that can rival the Netware client. "
You've never had to support them then - server side, i won't fault NW. Client side has been just a nightmare - failing upgrades, breaking certain network functionality, etc. In certain cases i've seen clients go back to MS just for application functionality and ease of support.
Funny how this seems to tie in with the switch promotion ATM.
If the people on those adverts are anything to go by, then i suggest the article writer at news.com has a good re-think.
Best spiel in the switch campaign (taling about MS Office) - "And thanks to exclusive features, the Mac versions actually improve on their Windows counterparts in several areas."
You're bragging about the fact that to get other OS'es running you have to emulate a PC? Do you need someone to spell it out for you? Surely you don't need to - after all you mac users are more intelligent than us x86 users. Go on - Shoot yourself in the foot again - very funny.
Shock horror! This can't be true - a *nix server with security holes? But, the typical news coverage on/. says that only M$ products have these kind of flaws.
Hold on - theres a new virus which uses Kazaa to spread itself - i've noticed that since this isn't made by M$, then it doesn't get covered by/. - even though there are millions of users that could potentially be affected....
How naive of me to think that/. is completely unbiased - shucks.
"but some feature like what you describe would be nice if they're properly balanced and thought out"
It is - people demanded it and got what they wanted. You can always download and apply manually to ensure that it doesn't break existing apps/functionality (most decent admins test before deploying)
"Rather, let me decide and then it's my fault if I download a worm"
Errrr - ok. Please tell me the last time M$ pushed out a trojan or worm to its users. Please - don't say any bugs or security holes.
"Linux distributions won't be so arrogant as to presume that "they know better what's good for you"
Its a feature for lazy admins, see the first reply. I guess you can't win with people like yourself though - MS are damned if they do or don't, aren't they?
Can i have be scored 4 for being a cynical troll too?
Great - ever thought that its an ever-repeating cycle?
Outlook is very widespread - virii writers will get recognition for the most havoc caused because of this. Thats the mindset of these morons - you'll just make them look elsewhere.
Go ahead and begin a campaign to rid us of outlook - if you are successful, then we'll all look forward to other clients being exploited.
It never ceases to amaze me how those who think they are close to the science of biology can be so goddamn arrogant. I'm not religious, before people squeal.... Since you're trying to put down those against embryo research, I'll turn your post around. You're just a bunch of cells, so surely you wouldn't have objected to being thrown in an incinerator or carved up for research whilst being an embryo? What? Not fair? But its science, we must go forward at all costs! Wait a minute - we're doing this to help life? So lets get this straight - we're destroying a potential life to try to help others. What does that make us?
"so I'm right in there with the cloning stuff" Good for you - now go out there and Live(tm) Maybe you'll learn some respect for life. Maybe you won't have to learn the hard way like some have.
Fantastic, so glad you're so trusting, and naive.

Damnit, I'm all for it then, it'll counteract the flooding and we may even get to see the sun more often.
