1. The limits of Pascal is for TEACHERS as well as students. Lets face it, the people who teach the lower introductory courses, in my experince, are not the cream of the crop, rather, they are people who were forced into teaching it.
Bad coding techniques are passed on from teacher to student. (yes, we actually have a PL/1 mainframe programmer and a SQL programmer teaching C, rather poorly might I add...ohh the monkey goto label)
2. Students who learn bad coding techniques can easily find them in reference books. I found GOTO without a problem in my first programming class, and used it regularly...So even if you teach a subset equivalent to Pascal, you still won't be limiting the student to a subset of Pascal, because a C compiler doesn't have that option...
The problem with C, C++, C#, Java, and a load of other languages that people are being taught is THIS:
You cannot master the language in one semester!
Yes, you can learn the funtimentals, and techinqually, you can learn good programming structures through selective function teaching(i.e. glossing over Goto), but the complexites for most languages prevent mastery of them in only 4 months.
Pascal is B&D, it prevents bad coding techniques by elimating commands that call them. It breaks programmign down to its roots, and with its limited functionality, forces students to plan their code before coding it.
With these features, I'm unsure why people insist on using an industral tool to teach someone basics. I feel like I'm giving students a motorcycle without first giving them a two wheel bike, ahh/rant off

The only verson I would like to see of AotC, is the MST3K verson, because it actually is bad to make me laugh, with the midget wrestling, that having robot heads making fun of it would be the only way to improve it..

It really sucked that after passing Advanced Composition in HS, to realize that I couldn't spell saw correctly all the time:)
Unfortaintly, Sight isn't that cool if you haven't had it in a long while. Cornia transplant paitents usually end up commiting suicide...
Basically, the person has use a cain in his life for so long, they cannot function with just eyesight. There are classes to use a cain, but there isn't really a support group to help people who are trying to get off the cain.
They might not be able to judge depth perception, which is a pretty important for movement:-P
And plus, the world isn't a great place to look at if your not use to it. Peeling paint, ugly people, dead grass, people being mean to eachother. So depression is something that is common in people who get this transplant....
of course, if you've just lost your eyesight in an accident, then getting new eyesight will be great. or at least better than learning brail:-P
