  1. workgroupshare.com - and outlook on How To (Really) Share A Simple Calendar? · · Score: 1

I really can't believe I'm apparently the first one to mention Workgroupshare.
    (at workgroupshare.com).
It's relatively cheap ($150 for 5 users) - allows people to share calendars, emails, contacts, etc.
I've used it for a while and can't really complain.
It allows advanced permissions (so only certain users can see your emails, or only certain users can modify /view your calendar, etc..)
and is overall, a pretty mature product, IMHO.
I have more than a couple of clients that use it without problem.

uh, has no one here ever used Roboform? yeah, they don't have a linux version (yet) - but I gotta admit I'm happy with my password organization.

at least it keeps everything local, works in IE & Mozilla.... and they even have a USB key and PALM sync'er

While I know for a fact MS Office 2000 would run on all of them - that's too much of a giveme..
but I bet...Hell, I bet even open office would run on every one of those.

I also know that firefox works on every one of those OS's, including NT Server..
    oh yeah - Btw,
    you forgot NT 4 Server..

    Please man -
    get your facts straight.

First off, the whole GUI environment didn't originally come from Apple (Lisa, or anything else) - it came from Xerox PARC.

your second statement, is nothing but a very good business strategy. Give the users what they want.

your third statement - is unsupported. Do you really think that they JUST NOW started working on this?

and finally - your last statement - simple rebut: Oh yeah, I've never EVER come across any buggy Macintosh/Unix/Linux,(insert OS name here) etc. code. Bugs are natural - we are human, and make mistakes. But at least they do make efforts at patching/new version more often then not.

Ya know, nothings perfect. But no worries here. Your points are typical.
If I had a penny for everyone that bitched about the problems in the world, or in software and did anything about fixing them, I'd totally be a billionaire.
On the other hand, if I had a dollar for every time I saw someone go after a bug and try and fix it, I'd be near broke.

    Thanks for the penny. ;)

It also wouldn't hurt to go to some porn sites and request info from them. that'll definitely get the ball rolling.

Change a domain you might own so that your contact info has the desired email address that you want spammed. that'll help too.

getting an AOL account wouldn't hurt either..hehe..

I'd tell my 12 year old self, that it's very important to remember - everybody is a little fucked up one way or another, even if they seem perfect in every way. There's always something thats a problem to someone - and not to worry if you have some seemingly big problem, somebody somewhere has a bigger one than you.
Derive from this that you should NEVER never feel that you're lower than someone else in any way.
    Everyone has issues.

Simple life philosophy: Problems happen. Deal with it, head on even. Keep moving.
Oh,and never take yourself too seriously.

  10. bad idea for technicians on Dell Dropping The Floppy · · Score: 1

apparently, this is classic marketing/sales thought here... without any thought to the technicians maintaining the computers...
(yet another example why only car mechanics should be able to design cars)
ever tried installing a Windows Server from the bootable CD, that requires a third party SCSI or RAID driver to access the drives? What do you use now, if there's no floppy? (esp. when windows doesn't detect the controller)

furthermore, what happens when you're CDROM driver goes bad, or you work on a machine that doesn't have a NIC or some such...

looks like I'll have to add a spare floppy drive to my list of parts that I carry around with me..

I'm only saddened to realize that while there are lots of technical people out here on slashdot, there's just doesn't appear to be a lot of experienced technicians/troubleshooters.. :(

  13. TV version creators.. that's all on Directors Counter-Sue Movie Bowdlerizing Company · · Score: 2, Insightful

So what's the big deal here anyway?
They should absolutely be able to do this if they want to. They probably started this just to be able to show it to their kids or something.
Are people out there going to honest say that there IS NOT too much sex, violence, profanity in movies nowadays?
Besides, any time any one of these movies were to be aired on some general broadcast company (ABC, NBC, CBS..etc) it'd be the same thing.
Profanity, nudity, violence... they'd all be cut for the TV version of it. and hey, it's not like they're hiding the fact that these are editted versions...
Apparently, those against this - don't have kids. If you had, you'd realize how difficult it is to find new movies for them that aren't full of profanity, nudity, and violence.
I've been saying for a while now, that I can't believe someone hasn't put this ability into DVDs already. It'd be great if I could show my 4 year old Lord the the Rings by simply enabling "G-mode" on the DVD (that is... if that option existed).
