    gmail supporst non-western characters I just found out. Yahoo does not(despite the fact that yahoo.co.jp for example does). Something to think about in an increasingly interconnected world.


    Yet gmail's interface is in english only. Yay, interconnected world. Even if you speak good english, and you have your yahoo or hotmail account in spanish, you can't use the import contact feature, because it fucks up with anything not in english.

    Bullshit. I am in Venezuela, and the elections weren't as fair as you claim to.

    The fingerprints were just collected. The goverment wouldn't waste an opportunity to get as most fingerprints as they could. The machines were called "fingerprint hunters" for this

    The paper trails were fraudulent. Watch my journal for some info. The percentage was a FIXED number in most places in the tallys. And sure, since Carter counted the final tallies, they matched

    There were just 2 options to choose. 1 - NO, 2.- YES. Some people's ballots were printing 1.- YES and 2.- NO

    The machine's code was not audited, and the code is closed source. Even Olivetti (the ones that made the machines) didn't want to do anything with the election

    The machines uploaded data at all times, not just after the election was donde and the ballots were counted

    In some states, there were more votes than people elegible to vote

    The goverment chose a few random ballot boxes to be audited. Yes, the goverment

    And much more. As much as we would like to be an example for the world, especially for the US, we aren't.

    You could have done that a long time ago, the source has always been available. I compiled it myself 1 or 2 years ago, took 3 hours.

    CD-R's are 700mb by default, be fair about it. And there's still advantage in CD-R's over DVD-R's, and that is that they can be used everywhere because CD-Roms are ubituous and DVD-Roms are not yet

    Does on mine, but i noticed the popup is made in flash, which you may not have installed, or maybe are using the click flash to view extension or something like that.

    How much funding do you have assigned to create these free cdroms, and even pay for shipping? I couldn't believe it when i saw it, so i requested 10 cd's, and i live in Venezuela, so this is very nice.

    Will this be only available for the current version, since Ubuntu is new?

    Not a mistake, they probable decided against implementing it because not enough people would use it. Maybe 10% of the slashdot community would be interested, but how about elsewhere?

    Those that can afford extra RAM generally buy it pre-installed. Those that can't can at least buy the machine and upgrade it later. $100 bucks isn't that much to me, but to a starving art major they can live without the performance.


    The sad part is that after paying for my 12" pb last december, i saw an ad in the paper that had the same price and they included a 512mb stick for free.

    I wonder when apple will join the 21st century and start shipping with 512mb RAM as default. 256 is NOT enough, unless you only have mail and safari opened. Try running a small java desktop application and watch the beachball come to play

    I get roughly 100 messages a day, and i recognize spam by practically reading their subject line. If i see a spam, i hit delete and continue. This process takes the time needed to hit the delete key x number of times.

    If current antispam technologies just move a message to a spam folder, which we have to check its full quantity of messages to make sure there isn't a false positive, then where is the improvement?

    No, you cant. Stop spreading FUD. If you have a slow CPU it might be usable if you have at least 256MB, but SMOOTHLY is something entirely different.


    People always get amazed when i say this, but i managed to run winxp on my compaq presario 1600, which is a laptop with a k6-333 processor and 64mb of ram. I just disabled the themes and all the eye candy and services, and could run outlook xp, IE and word at the same, with "decent" performance.

    The only thing i couldn't do is trying to use mozilla. Mozilla chews on ram like it was candy, and i even tried firefox (phoenix at the time) and it still swapped everything.

    When i used linux in the same laptop, i had to use vector linux with icevm, and the old but fast netscape 4.x browser. For email i had to use sylpheed
