    Sad thing is, that slackware users are really a small number. Most have went to debian or gentoo.

    Slackware needs more marketing and repository of packages.

    It doesn't sound like Debian at all, since they released woody with kernel 2.2 as default instead of 2.4

    Anyone knows how to disable html completely in Mail?

    Going to preferences, viewing, and unchecking the "display images and embedded objects" doesn't work properly.

    I find Mail very incomplete, but it has a plugin for easy viewing hotmail mail. Anyone know something similar for thunderbird?

    I am planning to buy an old mac (mostly because I like its colour)

    I suggest you get your priorities straight before buying a computer just for the color.

    Having said that, yellow dog is the best distro for mac.

    On desktop machines, it's equally as functional. Plus, it's always cool to see the pulsating (snoring) "sleep" light

    ...and don't see an incentive of using Linux. Most of my linux apps have been ported to osx , some with cocoa gui and the works, like xchat, wget, etc.

    And there isn't an nvidia driver for linux/ppc.

    So really, why use Linux here? I even have fink if i need some gnu/linux stuff.

    I wouldn't even know how to install linux here, because i would need to repartition and don't want to lose data.

    Also, unless you back up/sync your Zaurus religiously, when the battery power is gone, so is all your data, programs, etc.


    RTFA. It uses non-volative memory so your apps stay when the power drains.

    That's easy to answer. Python. Java is too low level for RAD, and quite possibly won't be Free Software in the predictable future.


    You don't think that having VB for all these years, working on a platform with lots of users, having an easy to use IDE and being pushed by Microsoft had nothing to do with its popularity?

    I read it before posting, do you really think being able to just draw buttons means all awt/swing apps will work?

    I know you don't, and i know you are just happy because of swing work has already started.

    The question is, how long until a useful swing app can be developed with gcj?
