We (the US) are pretty much the only country that uses the mmddyy format. We should reform! While were at it, we might as well chuck the death penalty and the 21 drinking age, too. Time to join the world!
I have a Sony Ericsson T68i. It sucks. It feels ergonomically weird, the navigation stinks, and, most importantly, the number pad is painful to use. The buttons are small, not alligned, and you have to bend your thumb at a weird angle to dial. The flip-open StarTak-like phones with nice buttons are the way to go. Also, ever hear of Cingular? AVOID THEM LIKE SARS!
Long live the StarTak.
If this thing takes off like it seems it will, AAC will become as big a standard as MP3 and the player manufacturers will HAVE to licence the codecs if they want to sell players. Hopefully they will have firmware upgrades for owners of current hardware.
I agree with the others for bashing your for your comments. You're like the people I hear bitching that Apple fucked them over because they paid 3 grand for a laptop, and now, 6 months later, the same laptop is only $2200. Your iPod was great yesterday. Now it sucks. Sheesh. You may have noticed, but technology has been moving like this for, say, 40 years now.
1. I agree. I'm sure you can still use it as hard drive when you have the dock, you now can't take it to another Mac an just plug it in. At least, not without lugging around the dock, too.
2. The radial buttons weren't very nice to click. These ones might be more usable in practice.
I like the rounded edges. It gives the device a softer feel.
Actually, I don't think that's quite right. There are many alternative sources of electric energy, but the real intractable problem has been long term storage of that energy. Batteries are heavy, expensive, and they leak. Hydrogen can be stored indefinitely, just like fossil fuels, but unlike fossil fuels, it can be created and converted to energy almost without environmental impact.
There are links in the post that should help you out, if you're wondering why it's so impressive. It should basically erase the Intel/Apple speed gap (based on initial estimates) and provide an easy segway into 64-bit desktop systems. Huge memory bandwith, too. It will probably be a little behind the Opteron initially, though. Still, there shouldn't be any significant complaints about speed for awhile after it comes out.
this means that apple must do something drastic and something soon. but what are the alternatives?
What are you talking about? Didn't you at least read the post? Aren't you a little curious about the PPC970 and what kind of performance to expect? Why would you even write a three-paragraph post on a subject you have no clue about? I hope you're just trolling.
if MS can port windows to handhelds, why can't Apple do it?
Apple did it before anyone. Ever hear of the Newton?
At least I know if Time Warner Cable tries to pull something like enforcing single-access, I can always go back to my more liberal-minded former dsl provider (acecape.com).
It seems pretty clear that this will be the direction in which Apple will move. Does anyone have an idea on whether a 64-bit MacOS could theoretically run today's 32-bit apps natively on this processor? If so, Apple's in a good position to lead the 64-bit desktop revolution.

Or maybe the moderators thought it was funny. Which, by the way, it is.

We Americans actually ususally say "mince meat" in that particular turn of phrase. Ground beef we use generally for the literal. My God, I'm boring.

Yeah, except for the part where IBM says it's a chip for workstations. I'm sure Altivec was thrown in there because IBM thought is was neat.

I think dowsing the moon for water may prove more effective. That is, if the cheese doesn't produce to much interference.

Yeah, and the kid who played Bobby Brady just passed away after consuming an entire bag of pop-rocks and a coke.
The Boy Scouts of America should stick to tying knots and keep their jamboreeing noses out of I.T.!
That's great. I think we're about to see an amazing workstation crystalize with this. Thanks for the new word, too, Mr. Orthogonal.
Yeah, I remember that. It's just that they've dropped the "compatible" qualifier now.
Yeah, Apple is so beleaguered.
