Does anybody have and use the Hanlin reader? Review? I'm not sure, but this might also be available in rebranded form. Looks like DRM-free heaven to me.
Is there a comparison page which outlines the supported formats for the Kindle, Sony (Libre?), Nookie (sic) etc.?.txt,.rtf,.lit,.pdf? Whatever happened to.lit?
The $259+ tag is obviously not subsidised. The e-books are not subsidised either at $9.99. So, these guys are trying to have their cake and eat it too?
After reading the comments on my earlier post, Delayed allocation and the zero-length file problem as well as some of the comments on the Slashdot story as well as the Ubuntu bug, itâ(TM)s become very clear to me that there are a lot of myths and misplaced concerns about fsync() and how best to use it. I thought it would be appropriate to correct as many of these misunderstandings about fsync() in one comprehensive blog posting.
Re: SMS - besides the SMS annoyance factor, a more practical use of such a feature is to avoid being charged for incoming SMS-es, usually spam, whilst roaming globally.
Anybody know what the scope of the API is? Is it just to run sandboxed apps or can I override existing functionality etc.? For e.g., would I be able to, if I wanted to, just turn off SMS functionality completely? Could I modify the phone to be accessible solely off a number whitelist?
IOW, am I able to develop my phone rather than just develop for my phone?
Titled "Code 4 Bill", the contest will provide the best pre-final and final year student technologists an opportunity to showcase their talent and join Gates' technical assistants team for a year.
From the TOI.. I don't see what everybody is getting so worked up about.. it's just a talent contest for college students ffs..
All I can say is that why should *any* government control the root servers? The idea behind ICANN's governmental committee sounds excellent but poorly implemented.
I think what people should be really pushing for should be an organisation completely free of any governmental control - be it US or the UN or whichever country - much like the IETF, which severed its ties with the US government. ICANN, which was apparently seeking a similar set up appears to have mishandled everything and screwed things up rather nicely..
I don't see how transferring control to the UN which the US (funds 22% of and) effectively controls is going to help.. And instead of one government screwing around, we want many governments screwing around?
Politics...
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.

I really haven't experienced that in a long long while now. I remember when it used to happen, but don't recall it being as frequent as you've put it..
Considering that the subject of my post outlines what I mean by MSN, not to mention the parent post.. you're just being anally_retentive..
Perhaps the client is badly written, but it is not apparent to me. Perhaps the protocol is badly written, but that is not apparent to me either. Either way, I wasn't aware of either of them being released to the public for you to make such sweeping statements:)
As to your other point.. since when is MSN not freely available?
If you are comparing MSN with Gaim (1.1.2 win32 port was the last I've used) or trillian (not used it for about 3 years I think.. but *shudder*), and calling it inferior, you frankly need to get your head examined.
You don't need to have a hotmail account to use MSN.
MSN is *by far* the most user-friendly IM I've used - it's only "drawbacks" being that
-it's ad-supported.. but that's understandable -it doesn't run directly on *nix.. that also is understandable I guess -it uses IE as it's default browser regardless of your system defaults..
a)VSNL is already providing 512kbps lines right now at Rs.260/month. b)This service will not be out until early 2007 c)There is no mention of unlimited data xfers or anything of the sort. Therefore, just like the above mentioned VSNL connection which offers something like a 100MB download cap per month, these guys will start charging people who go over the limit. If they are aiming for 2007, I don't see why-t-f they don't think bigger than 2MBPS
Anyways, as to the current state of the Internet in India, the best plan available right now is:
128kbps unlimited Hathway cable connection for Rs.810/month (about USD19 per month) - but the catch is that this is shared with other users in your apartment complex (which are the only establishments where this is available). So find a flat in a quiet neighbourhood with plenty of elderly neighbours and convince them to subscribe to it, and you're set:)

A Dual Monitor Experiment

Multi monitor setups are only for people who are 'monitoring' stuff (like stockbrokers etc.) and for certain professionals (e.g. video editors etc.).. Besides that it's just another fad.
On a similar note, if you have more than 1 PC and are looking to have a more efficient setup, I highly recommend the use of a KVM switch. They are cheap and save you the cost of another monitor besides the inherent power savings.
It's a democracy mate.. there is no question of "I don't like any of the candidates", as they aren't exactly forced upon you..
If you don't like 'em, then stand yourself, or register yourself with the party of your bent and try influencing candidature directly.
This is besides the fact that it is a poor form of protest as nobody knows if the ballot was invalided due to stupidity or malcontent.. Anyways, what exactly would you be setting into motion by doing so?
Failure to vote should be illegal and *is* in many countries..
