imagine a napster-style network where you just walk & talk, and get LAID!.... a massive universe where you create your own land.. it's here!
::the world's first peer2peer application in which each person serves their own piece of geography in a larger world...you dirties don't even have to go outside!::
introduction
BrendanLand is an online universe where you walk & talk, and have sex with animals (Katz).
Just download the BrendanLand program for Windows. Install it. Begin it.
First, edit your own little world... plant trees, place rocks and arrange grass. Make it a cool little place!
Then, connect to BrendanLand. Walk around. All of a sudden, people can walk into your little land, and you can walk to the lands of everybody else. You can even get laid!
Everybody serves their own little piece of the BrendanLand universe. You can roam this interconnected universe and chat to people. It's that simple!
download
Just email Brendan and he'll tell you where to download the software. (This is being done so that we can manage the size of the community.) This program requires Windows 95, 98, 2000 or XP, with DirectX 8 or later. If the BrendanLand program tells you that DirectX is required, you can download DirectX. Oh -- to bad you Slashdot Nerds with your Linux can't run it - please install a real operating system.
news
Tuesday 11 June 2002 First edition released. Known bugs, but hey, it's fun when it works!
Saturday 24 February 2001 Client and server software is currently under development.
the BrendanLand experience...
When you first start BrendanLand, you can create your own little land, placing tiles and objects.
Give your land a name as well.
Once you've saved your land, you can begin your client. Choose your avatar, and then connect to the Master Server.
The Master Server will send you off to visit the central land. If you're the first person on the network, this will be your own land. Walk around and admire the Programmer Artwork(TM).
Now, just imagine that - at the same time - your friend on the other side of the world has created her own land. ...
Now you should walk completely off the edge of your own land. There will be a pause, and then, like magic, the Master Server will send you off to your next destination.
And hooray, all of a sudden you're on your friend's land, served all the way from the other side of the world!
Now your friend connects to the Master Server too, and like magic, you're both in your friend's land. Try chatting to each other! Walk around while you chat. You can even play a game of tag!
You can both walk off the edge of this land and end up somewhere else. Maybe you'll end up back in your own land, or maybe in some other person's land. So long as people are connected to the BrendanLand network, there will be new lands to visit.
The Master Server manages the layout of all these interconnected lands.
That's about it. It's this easy. (When it's working, that is!)
about
BrendanLand was begun by Brendan Reville in January 2001 as a fun little experiment in building a peer2peer social universe. As far as he knows, it's the first purely social peer2peer application with graphical avatars. But more importantly, the first peer2peer application where each person in the network serves their own piece of geography. Brendan is from Sydney, Australia and currently lives in Seattle, USA. By day he is a software engineer for Tenzing Communications, Inc. Previously Brendan released the popular freeware shooter Xerix, its shareware sequel Xerix II: The Caverns of Mars, and wrote the unreleased Island Fury. He has two adventure games - The Sydney Mystery and The Millennium Adventure - in very slow progress. Brendan writes music when he can previously as foBik, now as ashintaro. Brendan's friend and past coworker Phil Chan has some rich ideas and a cool vision of online universes, and so this one's for Phil. The curious might be interested in how it works.

I unstalled Linux from all the computers at work yesterday - and the strangest thing happened...the office is smelling a lot better today? I posted this information to a newsgroup this morning and it mentioned that most Linux users are dirty smelly hippies who don't shower. I guess this morning they all decided to shower - it is very pleasant here now.
I also noticed that about 4 times as many bugs are being completed by our programming staff. I assume this is because of the extra productivity Windows 2000 affords us. Instead of fumbling around with source codes/etc just to play an mp3 or open a file - they are doing their jobs. This is a good day for Microsoft and their NT Technology.
Does anyone know when these Linux hippies with finally go away for good? I don't know what the IT people before me were thinking installing Linux. If you just look at the stock for it's creator LNUX, you'll see a sad tale over the last year or so. Millions lost - and that's just in investments. This doesn't even account for all the productivity lost by using Linux and the fact that you need a Haz-Mat crew to clean an office after a linux hippie was using it.
So - in closing - today is happy Linux is gone day!
You want to censor p2p networks much like Slashdot censors users who do not conform to an all-pro-linux stance on every issue? Not everyone in the world is a socialist...
So you nerds have done it - you've taken a perfectly good list of movies and ruined by putting the dribble of a movie, "LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring" in the top 5...everyone knows this movie wasn't nearly as good as the movies above and below it in this list...thanks for ruining Christmas.

Nice first post...I comment you and the C.L.I.T. --- now for some real news that should matter to Slashdot Nerdics:
Today VA Software filed their "FORM 10-Q" with the SEC...here are some snipets:
"BECAUSE THE MARKET FOR OUR CSD PRODUCTS IS NEW, WE DO NOT KNOW WHETHER EXISTING AND POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS WILL LICENSE OUR PRODUCTS IN SUFFICIENT QUANTITY FOR US TO ACHIEVE PROFITABILITY."
"Many of our customers have licensed only small quantities of our products, and these or new customers may decide not to broadly implement or license additional copies of our products. We cannot be certain that a viable market for our products will emerge, or if it does emerge, that it will be sustainable. If a sustainable viable market of our products fails to emerge, this would significantly adversely affect our business and operating results."
"WE ARE CONCENTRATING OUR EFFORTS ON THE SALES OF OUR SOURCEFORGE PRODUCTS, SO IF THESE PRODUCTS DO NOT ACHIEVE MARKET ACCEPTANCE WE ARE LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE LARGER OPERATING LOSSES."
"WE HAVE A HISTORY OF LOSSES AND EXPECT TO CONTINUE TO INCUR NET LOSSES FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE."
I like this one because all slashbots think this kind of patent usage is wrong: "IF WE FAIL TO ADEQUATELY PROTECT OUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS, COMPETITORS MAY USE OUR TECHNOLOGY AND TRADEMARKS, WHICH COULD WEAKEN OUR COMPETITIVE POSITION, REDUCE OUR REVENUES, AND INCREASE OUR COSTS."
I guess the slashdot janitorial crew is gone: "FUTURE REVENUE GROWTH DEPENDS ON OUR ABILITY TO HIRE AND RETAIN QUALIFIED PERSONNEL."
I guess you could look at this as a positive: "Loss from operations (7,906) Net loss $ (7,729) Basic and diluted net loss per share $ (0.15)" This is of course horrible but not as bad as last year's: "Basic and diluted net loss per share $ (2.21)" But it isn't that hard to cut such a high loss - especially when you tank most of your employees and sell of other parts of your business.
In a word - the news is not good. Everyone expects to see LNUX be delisted soon.

Drug paraphernalia found in home; accidental overdose is suspected
BREAKING NEWS. ASSOCIATED PRESS
LOS ANGELES, June 6 -- Dee Dee Ramone, a founding member of the pioneer punk band the Ramones, was found dead of a possible drug overdose in his Hollywood home, the coroner's office said Thursday. He was 50.
!!! Slashdot Censors Stock Quote Troll !!!
So he asked me to let the following information be free:
The Pro-Linux Camp is HURTING!
Manufacturing activity grew for a fourth straight month last month,
and at a faster pace than the previous month, signs that recovery in the battered
sector is gaining strength, an industry group reported today. The report suggests that
several leading manufacturing firms removed Linux. They replaced Linux with the more stable and robust Microsoft Windows 2000. This pushed shares of the pro-linux company VA Linux (LNUX) down 0.01. RedHat is down 0.219 to 4.781. Caldera International is down 0.03 to 0.84. The U.S. government is looking into allegations that Sun Microsystems (SUN) has stolen code from Microsoft. This would definitely border on corporate espionage. An annonymous source suggests that Sun Microsystems is run by communists. International Business Machines is down 0.55 to 80.
Investors Happy With Non-Linux Firms
Luckily Microsoft (MSFT) is up by 0.011. This is obviously good for the economy
and our country. Microsoft obviously is against all open sores software and is being rewarded for it's choices. Luckily Amazon.Com, Inc. (AMZN) is up by 0.15. This is obviously good for the economy and our country. Amazon.Com, Inc. obviously is against all open sores software and is being rewarded for it's choices. Vivendi Universal (V) is up by 0.21 today. Record scores of open sores users who pirate legitimate intellectual properties from Vivendi Universal have been caught and are facing jail time. One only hopes that they are not thrown into the slammer with RMS.
Why invest in a company that is doomed because they fail to have a viable business plan? I have no interest in flushing money down the toilet - even if the stock is priced at 82 cents a pop. They should be de-listed.
!!! SLASHDOT CENSORS STOCK QUOTE TROLL !!! He tells me he's stuck at -17 karma - after just two days of having an account.
SO...The following information wanted to be free:
Open Sores Movement in the Dumps!
Fortunately for those security concious individuals will soon no longer have to worry about RedHat (RHAT) as it is currently down 0.21. I say this because open sores software has more bugs and problem than closed source. We can only hope it will be de-listed soon. Layoff announcements at U.S. firms fell to the lowest level in a year during last month as companies boosted production and the economic recovery gathered speed. Analysts suggest that a decrease in the number of Linux installations has spured productivity. This news pushed the pro-linux company Caldera International (CALD) down 0.03. The U.S. government is looking into allegations that Sun Microsystems (SUN) has stolen code from Microsoft. This would definitely border on corporate espionage. An annonymous source suggests that Sun Microsystems is run by communists. International Business Machines (IBM) was hit rather hard by news that the number of Linux installations is dropping. A definite sign that Linux is Dying. International Business Machines is currently down 0.79.
Another Good Day for America
Vivendi Universal (V) is up by 0.05 today. Record scores of open sores users who pirate legitimate intellectual properties from Vivendi Universal have been caught and are facing jail time. One only hopes that they are not thrown into the slammer with RMS.
A conservative U.S. think tank suggests in an upcoming report that open-source s oftware is inherently less secure than proprietary software, and warns governmen ts against relying on it for national security.
The white paper, Opening the Open Source Debate, from the Alexis de Tocqueville Institution (ADTI) will suggest that open source opens the gates to hackers and terrorists.
"Terrorists trying to hack or disrupt U.S. computer networks might find it easi er if the federal government attempts to switch to 'open source' as some groups propose," ADTI said in a statement released ahead of the report.
Open-source software is freely available for distribution and modification, as l ong as the modified software is itself available under open-source terms. The Li nux operating system is the best-known example of open source, having become pop ular in the Web server market because of its stability and low cost.
Many researchers have also suggested that since a large community contributes to
and scrutinizes open-source code, security holes are less likely to occur than in proprietary software, and can be caught and fixed more quickly.
The ADTI white paper, to be released next week, will take the opposite line, out lining "how open source might facilitate efforts to disrupt or sabotage electro nic commerce, air traffic control or even sensitive surveillance systems," the institute said.
"Computer systems are the backbone to U.S. national security," said ADTI Chair man Gregory Fossedal. "Before the Pentagon and other federal agencies make unin formed decisions to alter the very foundation of computer security, they should study the potential consequences carefully."

I like this one because all slashbots think this kind of patent usage is wrong:
"IF WE FAIL TO ADEQUATELY PROTECT OUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS, COMPETITORS MAY USE OUR TECHNOLOGY AND TRADEMARKS, WHICH COULD WEAKEN OUR COMPETITIVE POSITION, REDUCE OUR REVENUES, AND INCREASE OUR COSTS."
I guess the slashdot janitorial crew is gone:
"FUTURE REVENUE GROWTH DEPENDS ON OUR ABILITY TO HIRE AND RETAIN QUALIFIED PERSONNEL."
I guess you could look at this as a positive:
"Loss from operations (7,906)
Net loss $ (7,729)
Basic and diluted net loss per share $ (0.15)"
This is of course horrible but not as bad as last year's:
"Basic and diluted net loss per share $ (2.21)"
But it isn't that hard to cut such a high loss - especially when you tank most of your employees and sell of other parts of your business.
In a word - the news is not good. Everyone expects to see LNUX be delisted soon.
Thank You.

Thank You.

Nice work - I'm impressed by your speed.
Keep the first posts away from those scum bag ACs who want to hurt America.

The Pro-Linux Camp is HURTING! Investors Happy With Non-Linux Firms
Note: Market data is delayed by 15 minutes.
Why invest in a company that is doomed because they fail to have a viable business plan? I have no interest in flushing money down the toilet - even if the stock is priced at 82 cents a pop. They should be de-listed.
He tells me he's stuck at -17 karma - after just two days of having an account.
SO...The following information wanted to be free:

A conservative U.S. think tank suggests in an upcoming report that open-source s
oftware is inherently less secure than proprietary software, and warns governmen
ts against relying on it for national security.
The white paper, Opening the Open Source Debate, from the Alexis de Tocqueville
Institution (ADTI) will suggest that open source opens the gates to hackers and
terrorists.
"Terrorists trying to hack or disrupt U.S. computer networks might find it easi
er if the federal government attempts to switch to 'open source' as some groups
propose," ADTI said in a statement released ahead of the report.
Open-source software is freely available for distribution and modification, as l
ong as the modified software is itself available under open-source terms. The Li
nux operating system is the best-known example of open source, having become pop
ular in the Web server market because of its stability and low cost.
Many researchers have also suggested that since a large community contributes to
and scrutinizes open-source code, security holes are less likely to occur than
in proprietary software, and can be caught and fixed more quickly.
The ADTI white paper, to be released next week, will take the opposite line, out
lining "how open source might facilitate efforts to disrupt or sabotage electro
nic commerce, air traffic control or even sensitive surveillance systems," the
institute said.
"Computer systems are the backbone to U.S. national security," said ADTI Chair
man Gregory Fossedal. "Before the Pentagon and other federal agencies make unin
formed decisions to alter the very foundation of computer security, they should
study the potential consequences carefully."

That's a rather catchy tune...did you write it yourself?
C.L.I.T. for Life!
If it weren't for the ICANN there would be no internet. This means there would be no Slashdot - which would be awesome.
I blame ICANN - they must be stopped!
I'm taking a class on programming. The current section is about what your programs should not look like. We use SlashCode as a foundation. So, don't be jeleous you AC scumbag. I looked through SlashCode last night and noticed that it gives preference to trolls who are logged in. It actually puts AC scum like yourself in a seperate queue.
