Why do they even worry about it? I mean there are plenty of basic things that aren't available, like public toilets (suffcient number thereof). Like properly functioning infrastructure, medical care etc.
This depends... on what the forseeable penalties are like:) I mean, maybe someone will adopt this as a business model, to say so. Like, one writes the virus/worm, the other "tells on him", both share the reward...:)
...that i see word "sex" on slashdot.
For a second i thought that we geeks are finally getting lives:) But only for a second - then i read the entire subject.
"Explains why my email account is overloaded with these little bastards."
Well, partially it could also be to do with the fact that you are not careful about where your email address ends up. I have been as strict as possible about people not including me in their outlook/outlook expresss address books, or not including me on the mailing lists if i knew that participants are not security minded people. And i never had any sobigs, mydooms or the likes in my inbox yet i did use that account for emailing:). I know its not a 100% protection but it helps, obviously.
movieweb.com sysadmin (waves hand): you will not slashdot my webservers.

No, it's actually hasn't been that long.

I think there will be a lot of wraith unleashed onto p2p again. Like "See? all that p2p is good for is piracy and theft" And the best thing we can do for p2p's sake is not to download the thing. Unless your "sometext.zip" happens to be the NT source code.
Nothing in the article says or implies towards the fact that "Piracy boosts sales".
What boosts sales is the fact that there are plenty of new zealand artists in top lists, and new zealanders love to support their fellowcountrymen.
Yes, IM can be extremely convenient, especially in case that i had to deal with. By the above i mean - having to coordinate workload between a number of technicians that are not necessarily in the office. So yes, my hat is off to IM... but:
- For every thesis there is an antithesis. * IM is a source of spam * IM is a source of virii and worms * It can distract even the most ideal workaholic
So lets face this - every invention or product no matter which industry it belongs to will always have an upside and the downside, a con and a pro. It's basically up to us to use to the best of its intended ability.

So that you can see what others thought of it and debate interesting points of what you saw with others. Here, for example, on/.
What is the point of reading a review before watching a movie? Watch the movie first, form your OWN opinion (this way it won't be influenced by anyone else's), thats what i have decided anyway.
Bu it reminds me of this joke, well, it's actually a scam that someone supposedly pulled somewhere, sometime ago... A company is established dealing with adult products over the internet. The company has a fairly innocent name, nothing too vulgar. People buy their product and after a month of waiting they receive a cheque from "Newest Arse Penetration Techniques and Devices Inc" with a full refund and a letter saying that the prodcut is no longer available, sorry. How many people will cash that cheque ?
Be it Linux, Mac or BeOS.. you can run but you cant hide.
The thing that scares me is that because of Microsoft's ongoing disregard to basic security concepts all of the internet is in danger, to say so. Spam, worms, viruses - all those things take their toll. Resources are wasted: bandwidth, sysadmins time and so on.
1) I am telling THEM to "develop" :)
2) Since when are new zealand residents called "westerners" ?
3) Patronising? well... maybe

$250000
Same reward was offered for the information about the authors of Sobig, msblaster etc.

I for one am sick of this patenting frenzy. What will they do when there is nothing left to patent? ...oh, hold on, i know - they'll start suing.

How many staff they have. And how well are they doing next to the big boys a-la Symantec ?
The real irony is that "svoiets" no longer exist.

However htis problem will cease to exist with the appearance of localized online music stores. Where there is a demand - supply is soon to follow.
You are probably about right. However you fail to mention that $15 is 15% of an average monthly salary in Moscow.
..free as in beer?

And as people in linmagau.org have already found out
these kind of stories should be kept secret from slashdot for your web server's sake.

All this is really good, but what i really want to know is where can i register my pr0n.raises.your.iq ?
Let me guess - you were treated for a misterious illness that makes you skip parts of sentences and skip over to the next thought ? :)
