The problem is that micro$oft thinks that everything needs to be a handheld desktop. Palms are not, and they know it. They are organizers, and tweeked at best to do other things. They don't need to have mp3 playing capability or full on internet browsing. I was playing with a small 130mhz WinCE machine and the comment i got from my friend who owned it, who was toying with my palm at the same time, was how fast my palm is. he asked what speed it ran at and i said 16mhz. He was amazed, a week later he had a palmIIIx. once again...micro$oft is doing it to the handheld market, making all the systems slower with a huge OS. palm has done it, made something fast and handy. albeit they need to go more into the palm Vx with color and work on that one instead since its very slim. long live palm! JediLuke
I have seen network solutions just be idiots too many times. If they lose your domain...oh well its not their problem. If someone you pay to register a domain in your name, and then makes themselves the registrant? Not Netsol's prob. If you have a problem like you need a domain transfered to another service or DNS, you will have to wait 4-6 weeks to get it done, or pay $200 to have it done right away.
I like the.nu because it's cheep, and they have lots of names still avail. I mean $45 for two years? pretty good! JediLuke
Saw stuff on this back on VIA's site a while ago...i think they absorbed Cyrix, but is going to continue to market them as Cyrix chips. Overclocking is a plus! The should be decent but hopefully the fight by Untel will no go through against VIA, seeing as how they own Cyrix JediLuke
Well back when Win95 first came out, i had on compuserve...and everytime i reinstalled compuserve the windows would say..."There is a corrupted file windows will repair it now" and this was the WINSOCK.DLL. COmpuserve later sued Microsoft because this was an intentional thing put in, as it didn't check any other files for corruption...i can't remember if they won or not...doesn't matter...they got bought...heh
Ok I will have to bring up something JonKatz said to the effect of, how can a company based on screwing its customers over get so far ahead? Honestly, do you think that anyone will ever recieve any help from AOL's already bogged down Customer Service? It's crap, deal with it and get a real ISP... JediLuke
Its basically a good compilation of the technical specs...what i really want to see is the power consumption comparisons between the TM5400 and the PIII...that was the coolest part and they don't even have a diagram anywhere...but its a great in depth look. Can't wait to get my hands on one of the devel specs kits.
We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams JediLuke
I'll post this again...hopefully it will get moderated up, it is quite important
Michael Bracy of the Low Power Radio Coalition is one of the guys in Washington who has been prodding this legislation through. This allows communities and universities to use the lower wattages for radio broadcasting. I run a campus station and i hope he gets this through because its quite invaluble for someone in the LA area where there are hardly any frequencies avail. We are the music makers, we are the dreamer of dreams JediLuke

I have to admit, without the 10BaseT connection to the internet, i would never have totally switched to linux. I have to say that it probably is one of the greater things about living on campus. But what about when we all get pissed of living here and move out? we get high speed connections from the phone company...i think they should give us free long distance for that or something! JediLuke
A sad day for mankind, even when he was being harsh and nasty to bond, he even said "come back in one peice 007". I guess he will always be remembered as a geek simply cuz he tinkered and gave bond all his toys...
So i think i must have been somewhat approprate for him to retire...no only from being Q but retiring "Q" all together, making john cleese be "R".
He will be loved and mourned by geeks alike, i know i was sad in "the World is Not Enough" to hear he retired... JediLuke
Ok here is a place to list what your favorite part was!
I think mine was when the Fighter Jet Crossed the International Dateline and Crashed cuz Y2K got it!!! Feel the panic, your toasters and microwaves are going to make the ice caps melt and the nuclear power plants are going to blow up! (even though they melt DOWN!) get your water and bread parties together! JediLuke
You have to lookat what everyone has and not do that. It is something people have already seen, thats my/. and mp3.com are so successful. You have to think of something origional and neat to do. I recommend a T1 with a nice server to use. A suggestion is to use a raid 1 so that you can pull one drive just in case, and you will always have a backup. Definatly seek some hosting and co-locations beacause you can charge and pay the fixed costs with that stuff. Then you can think about dial-up and dsl hosting as my company has. You aren't going to get very much from dial up so it is almost not worth doing...i might be biased towards dsl/co-location/hosting. brings in more money to cover your bottom line.
Good server setup: Pentium iii 400-500 256-384meg of ecc sdram adaptec aaa-131 (1 chan) raid card or the aaa-133 for 3 chan. raid 1 or 5 depending on your space needs and a t1, go with one t1 then multiple t1s then think about a t3. Unless you are getting hits like/. you prolly won't need a t3.
that should be enough to get you started, and not have to upgrade the actual server for a while. JediLuke
The only problem i forsee is the fact that some things will say Jan 1, 1900 and say that day was a monday and 1/1/01 is a thursday, thats the only problems...
There was however a sewage plant in van nuys that backed up and flowed over into a neighboring park...so i'm not sure what to think...go Nitrozak JediLuke
I know micro$oft is pretty dumb...but honestly? Would they do that? Because i can think of plenty of organizations that would LEARN linux, BSD, what have you to save thier paychecks. Because that is the only place the money for that (if they decide to use it) is going to come out of, at least thats what i reccomend. JediLuke
Hey John, Ok there is a holy war in the quake world of what is better...using the keyboard and a 3/2 button mouse or a trackball? what type of setup do you use?
I bet i'd be a better candidate at 20 that any of the over 21 people they put on that island.
. Each day you will compete in challenges of strategy, guile and wits to win small luxuries
well since they have to be over 21 can anyone say...booze? once again...i can make my own cider...i think i would be a good candidate!
. The person with the most votes against him/her must leave the island immediately and is eliminated from the contest.
ok let me take the time to say that this is outright lameness. this is called survivor right? Make them battle to the death! but honestly, they should make people give up not be forced off...this is better because then people who like that character will think they are a wuss instead of them being bullied off. Make them vote to knock them out of their "office", whatever office you can hold on a dessert island.
, more are eliminated until only two remain. In order to choose the final winner, a unique Tribal Council is called. This final council (consisting of the last seven eliminated contestants) will stand in judgment of the remaining two.
oh man this is really wrong...once again...the only judge in a survival situation is nature...not a tribunal of past contestants...what crap.
so basically this is going to be "the REAL WORLD: stranded in paradise" where a bunch of beautiful people jump around all day and look pretty. JediLuke
Hey kevin congrats!
I'm down with Intel and all, but AMD is going to rape them. When i have the cash, i say a product switch is going to be called upon!

Actually it's been out for a while. It has XFree86 3.3.6, all the latest Apache, Window Maker and KDE stuff. I found it at:
Rawhide
Enjoy
