is Microsoft going to license linux on the xbox. I mean what real benefit does it have for them? The OSC isn't going to pony up money for Microsoft's testing process (which I think is neccessary to get certified for the logo), nor is it in Microsoft's best interest to want to support a rival o/s on one of it's hardware products. There might even be some liability if someone tries to install linux and burns their xbox. (somehow)
I mean I don't agree with the guy selling virtual property that wasn't his... But $h*t... Now you can be thrown in jail for selling virtual stolen property? In a video game no less. Here's what I think should've happened, the game maker takes stand of not supporting sale of items in virtual world, so if you buy something and get screwed it's your fault. And the lady gets her house back, the guy who bought it and the guy that sold it to him get their accounts suspended. And finally the Sys Admin figures out a better way to authenticate password change/reset requests.
I think you are right... around 5 years ago when most of my friends lived relatively close to each other... we all wanted to split the cost of DSL service. Unfortunately we lived about a 1.5 blocks away from each other, which made connecting our houses via cable impracticle. But with all the new wireless technology we have today... I could've used a couple high-gain powered attennas to boost the single and cover a 5 mile radius.
It's good to see respected organizations like the IEEE speaking out against the problems of the DMCA. If we can keep the pressure on, the politicians will not be able to ignore the populace.
I think it's great that Dune fans finally get to see some Children of Dune in a tv series. It's always fun to watch something that you've read about millions of times.
Even considering that it came out around the same time as LOTR, that doesn't mean people can't watch more than one movie a weekend. I know i sometimes watch something Friday and Saturday night.
I also thought the movie was pretty good.
The reason most mac people aren't hardcore gamers is because for the longest time, hardcore games were NOT avaialble for the mac. The best FPS the mac had for a long time was marathon, and IMHO it sucked compared to doom/quake/etc. If a game did come out for the mac, it usually came out 1-3 years after the PC release, and by then it would be old news. Now 5-10 years later, no respectable computer gamer would even think of getting a mac for gaming, even though more games released now work on both mac and pc. The PC has a huge headstart.
That's funny... added functionality/features is the only reason i've purchased games like warcraft III, starcraft, etc. Cause I could get the single player version for free, but I need to pay to play online...
* Why, for cryin' out loud, didn't Kenobi and Yoda teach Luke the various Sith lightning counterattacks they used in their fights? He could've used them...
I think I can answer that... Those kind of counter-attacks require "Master" level mastery of the force to pull off. Not to mention that Obi-wan didn't have much time to teach Luke anything really. Also only "Master" level sith have the ability to shoot lightning perhaps...
I disagree. If you read a lot of the behind-the-scenes books about the original trilogy, they mention numerous times that they would've done more if movie making technology was better. The re-release of the trilogy didn't count either, because they couldn't shoot some new scenes due to the original actors being old. Suffice it to say, if Lucas had then all the technology he has at his disposal today, we would problably see more elaborate battle scenes...

Thank you for that beautiful response. Katz reminds me of many english professors that I've had who loved to tie-in issues that obviously had nothing to do with whatever motivations the author had for writing the story. PLEASE can we get a real journalist to cover geek movies.
I planned to take the day off and everything, but my friend had a previous engagement he couldn't get out of. So we ended up going to a later showing at a shittier theatre. Definetly better than TPM.

It was nice debating over your short life time...
I was really enjoying those free pr0n channels. In digital quality no less.

I hate phone spam almost as much as I hate e-mail spam.

I totally agree. Whenever a website offers FTP/HTTP downloads... get which one doesn't work or has reached its' user limit. FTP.
YATTA!!

I can't wait till we can travel ANYWHERE wirelessly and not have to pay... It could happen... ;P
I wouldn't call it dumb to bail when a career is going down the tubes... How many punch card inserters do you see making big money now?
