He is making the assumption that IBM is concerned with a sales drop. For the last decade and a half the only thing their awful management has cared about is executive compensation. Even after this year's awful earnings the genius Ginni said 'the results prove our strategy is working', and lo and behold they voted themselves bonuses today.
Actually last year bonuses were forgone amid lower profits: BBC.

If they are just sleeping (or in whatever state they are in) will not their muscles deteriorate? After having no nourishment for several weeks most people will waste away to nothing.
There should at least be the obligatory disclaimer "Slashdot is owned by Dice" so that readers can prepare themselves. Presenting it as a neutral article seems deceptive.
According to Google, the information from Baseline will be anonymous, and its use will be limited to medical and health purposes. Data won't be shared with insurance companies.
Given the revelations from Snowden I see no reason to trust Google or any other large American company.
Those rules were written in 2010 — and AT&T has pledged to abide by them for three years if its DirecTV purchase goes through — but were knocked down by a federal court in January.
Even if AT&T did abide by these rules in three years their commitment is over and they can do what they want.
People see this law for what it is, a way for the rich/politicians/scum to get rid of stories that make them look like the twats they are.
To be fair the idea is for results that are libelous or potentially (legally) damaging to a person to be removed. Making someone look like a twat is not to be removed (or at least should not be deleted). Google seems to be pushing the envelope on what they are removing to provoke resistance to the law in the hope of getting it changed.
An interesting study, but nothing about the rankings has anything to do with measuring being 'influential'.
I guess it is "influential" in the same way that Google news shows the most "influential" sites covering a significant story. Influential means "conforms most to the prevailing viewpoint" (at least in this case). These are the ones that the most people read and hence the most influential.
This is not claimed by the article. While Google was the one sued the article says that the ruling applies to any search provided who receives a complaint.
install to virtual machine, then make copies of that virtual machine. problem solved.
I do not think that this "solution" will work for a typical user. VM machines are not simple to setup and use for the masses as they are for/. users.
As a matter of fact I do not think this will impact the majority of users at all. Most people buy their software with their computer system and are not adverse to having to buy a new version when they get a new machine.
Can we also get rid of excessively long sigs, embedded graphics, comic sans and outlook stationary too? Or at least made them more difficult to automate.
Amen. I bet if you added the bandwidth spent transmitting large sigs/wallpapers/stationary and showed it to most CFOs they would agree.
If the owners of the building could run cooler I would think they would. Heat is expensive and building owners are cheap; if it is possible to spend less I would think that owners would.
So the really interesting part of this story - that superconductivity can be induced in high-temperature materials that haven't been grown in proximity - is completely overshadowed by the tape that held the experiment together?
Fuck journalism.

Several years ago they were bought by Bell and re-branded as The Source. They still operate in Canada.
I wonder why they were able to survive in Canada and not in the US?

WIkipedia has an article where they trace it out: Man in the Moon
Not the clearest picture ever but you can see what they are talking about.
This article is a pile of bull-knit

/.ers are knitters? Seems like this is aimed at the wrong audience...

This has nothing to to with the Tesla; wouldn't matter what was being driven.
Or is it that 80% are actual audio calls and the rest are just meta-data?

But more a ranking of what are the most talked about / downloaded / popular.

This saves us from the terrorists how?
Is that the only measure of success?

... this long considering magazines really haven't been relevant since the late 90's early 2000's for gaming.
Why does everyone assume that if they are not interested in something no one is interested in it?

Kidding aside, have you tried bringing it up with Bob?
